Harry Potter Characters Left Out Of The Movies Who Shouldn’t Have Been

Harry Potter: What Each Gryffindor Was Supposed To Look Like

From Peeves to Neville’s grandma, there are plenty of Harry Potter characters who played crucial roles in JK Rowling’s series of novels, yet never made a single appearance in the movie franchise.

With over 700 named individuals in the seven books, getting all of them into the films was going to be a tall task and some of those who didn’t directly move the plot forward were cut from the action. Here are the ones we missed the most!

Fred And George Weasley

Fred and George Weasley are identical twins and are the brothers of Ronald Weasley. They are popular for their jokes and troublemaking. They are slightly shorter and stockier than Ron but share the same bright red hair as Ron. Harry first sees them on the platform at Kings Cross Station where they confuse their mother into thinking that she cant tell them apart.

Fred and George also console Ginny for not being able to join Hogwarts yet, and further suggest that theyll send her a toilet seat from school. They eventually end up giving Harry a toilet seat in the hospital wing as a reward for thwarting Voldemort.

They are both beaters in the Gryffindor Quidditch team and are very friendly to Harry. They even circle around below Harry when his broom malfunctions during the Quidditch match hoping to catch him if he falls.

Tom Riddle In His 20s

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince we discovered much about how historys most dangerous dark wizard spent his childhood and came to power, but tragically most of that backstory was left out of the film.

A couple of the most menacing scenes came when Riddle visited elderly witch, Hepzibah Smith, but even more crucial to the series was the scene in which Riddle returned to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for a teaching position.

The increasingly snake-like antagonist used the meeting to hide one of his many horcruxes in the Room of Requirement, which he mistakenly believed he was the only student to have discovered.

Harry Never Met Newt Scamander Either

How Many Harry Potter Characters Do You Know?

Newt Scamander was the hero of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which took place in New York City during the Roaring ’20s. This was long before Harry and his friends were ever born, and even Voldemort hadn’t been born yet. Naturally, Harry had no role in Newt’s story at all.

Newt was still alive as of 2017 as an elderly wizard, meaning he and Harry could have met, but they didn’t. Newt once visited Hogwarts in the 1990s, in fact, but he didn’t interact with Harry there. It’s likely that they would get along if they did meet, though. They’ve both dealt with plenty of weird magical critters.

Magical Abilities And Skills

Harry’s corporeal stag Patronus

Harry…. is becoming exceptionally good at Defence Against the Dark Arts. So that’s the one area in which, almost instinctively, he is particularly talented. Apart from Quidditch.
J. K. Rowling regarding Harry’s magical talents

Harry was seen and had proven himself to be an extremely powerful and talented wizard. His power was evident from the start: he demonstrated immediate command of a broomstick, was able to conjure a corporeal Patronus at an exceptionally young age , and even survived numerous encounters with Lord Voldemort. He mastered a wand made of hawthorn, which one should only ever consider placing in the hands of a witch or wizard of proven talent. Harry was also a very gifted flyer and Quidditch player, the youngest Seeker in a century.

Harry Didn’t Speak To Professor Aurora Sinistra

Professor Aurora Sinistra has been Harry’s Astronomy teacher since the beginning, and she takes her duty as a teacher quite seriously. Harry learned much from her and scored an A, or “acceptable,” in his Astronomy O.W.L., but he was never that passionate about the field, and he dropped it after his fifth year.

Harry never spoke to professor Sinistra in the Harry Potter books or movies, and in fact, Sinistra has no dialogue at all, meaning she has no interactions with anyone. She ended up as a background character and little more.

Cedric Diggory Could Be A Nod To Narnia Author Cs Lewis

Cedric is a common incorrectly spelled version of “Cerdic,” a sixth-century Saxon king.

His last name may come from “Sir Degare,” an obscure Middle English poem. It might also be a reference to Digory Kirke, a character from C.S. Lewis’s “The Chronicles of Narnia,” of which Rowling is a fan.

Amos, Cedric’s father, is named after a Biblical prophet. In Hebrew, the name is related to the word “burden,” which Amos must carry after his son’s death.

Rowling Found Gilderoy Lockhart’s Name On A Random War Memorial

“I was looking for quite a glamorous, dashing sort of surname, and Lockhart caught my eye on this war memorial, and that was it,” Rowling told the BBC.

She said she found “Gilderoy” while looking through the Dictionary of Phrase and Fable. She found the name “Gilderoy” as belong to “a highway man, and a very good-looking rogue.”

“Gilderoy Lockhart, it just sounded perfect,” Rowling said. “Impressive, and yet, in the middle, quite hollow, of course.”

The Harry Potter video game series received mixed reviews from critics. Nintendo consoles scored higher marks than other console releases. According to media review site Metacritic, the series received its best response for the Chamber of Secrets game. Despite the game being created differently for different systems, the game was rated higher consoles across the board against every other entry in the series.

Later entries in the series received increasingly lower scores on Metacritic, as critics rated Deathly Hallows â Part 1 being the poorest reviewed. The Official Xbox Magazine stated the game had “so much wrong with that we don’t have space to list it all” and Kristine Steimer from IGN calling that game not “worthy of the Harry Potter branding” before giving the gameplay for the game 2 out of 10, stating “Between the camera breaking frequently, boring shoot-out sequences and uninspired stealth missions, the game gets worse and worse as you play.”

Argus Filch The Caretaker Of Hogwarts Is Always Keeping A Lookout For Those Pesky Kids

In Greek mythology, Argus was a giant hundred-eyed watchman. Like Filch in the “Harry Potter” novels, he seemed to be able to see anything, even the conversations held in obscure corridors in the castle. “Filch” is British slang for casual stealing, which has less obvious connections to Filch’s character.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

Harry returns to Hogwarts for his fourth year following an eventful Quidditch World Cup with Hermione and the Weasley family.

Its sure to be a thrilling one, as Hogwarts will host the Triwizard Tournament, in which students from three major wizarding academies will participate.

However, only students aged seventeen and up are fit for the tournament, so Harry is safe for the time being or so he hopes, before the ritual Goblet of Fire chooses him as the fourth Triwizard Champion for no discernible cause.

Bloomsbury published the book in the United Kingdom, and Scholastic published it in the United States.

The release date in both countries was July 8, 2000. This was the first time a book in the series was released simultaneously in both countries.

In 2001, the book was the first Harry Potter novel to win a Hugo Award, making it the first Harry Potter novel to do so.

The book was adapted into a film, which was released worldwide on November 18, 2005, and an Electronic Arts video game.

Rowling Has Made No Secret Of How Much She Disliked Cornelius Fudge

“Cornelius” is a common name and comes from the New Testament. But with the Minister for Magic’s middle and last names, “Oswald” and “Fudge,” Rowling reveals what Fudge’s politics were all along.

“Oswald” is likely a reference to Oswald Mosley, the leading British fascist politician in the lead-up to World War II, who supported Adolf Hitler. Fudge is also a lot like Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime Minister who tried to avoid war with Hitler. Taken together, the name reflects Rowling’s distaste for the British politicians who allowed Hitler to get away with his crimes, like as Fudge denied the return of Voldemort at the end of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”

“Fudge,” as a verb, means to “present or deal with in a vague, noncommittal, or inadequate way, especially so as to conceal the truth or mislead,” according to the Oxford Dictionaries, which also sounds a lot like how Fudge ran the ministry.

Minerva Mcgonagall’s Name Is A Joke About A Terrible English Poet

TEST YOURSELF: How Many Of These 51 Harry Potter ...

Minerva is the Roman name for Athena, goddess of wisdom and justice, which suits the Hogwarts professor’s values.

As for the last name? It’s a jokey reference to William McGonagall, who the Independent called “the worst poet in the English language.”

“William McGonagall is celebrated as the worst poet in British history,” Rowling wrote on Pottermore. “There was something irresistible to me about his name, and the idea that such a brilliant woman might be a distant relative of the buffoonish McGonagall.”

Kingsley Shacklebolt Has An Appropriately Royal Name For A Person Who Becomes The Minister For Magic

A shacklebolt is the metal part of a chained shackle that holds it closed. When she named the character, Rowling could have been referring to the character’s focus on security, or she could have been making a vague comment about bondage and slavery, because Shacklebolt is one of the few black characters in the “Harry Potter” universe. Rowling also includes a pun in his name his Patronus is a Lynx, which sounds like the “links” of a chain.

“Kingsley,” on the other hand, has connotations of royalty. He uses the code name “Royal” in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” and becomes Minister for Magic after Voldemort falls.
