Before Cavill even dreamt of becoming the famous Superman who won the hearts of thousands of viewers around the world, things werent looking so bright for him. In fact, Cavill managed to lose not one, but 2 roles to Robert Pattinson. The first one is maybe lesser known by the public. He tried to get into Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where he auditioned to play Cedric Diggory. The second role he lost to Pattinson is a well-known story. Cavill came close to playing the role of Edward Cullen, the protagonist in the Twilight saga.
In fact, in the latter, he even turned out to be the first choice of writer Stephenie Meyer, creator of the Cullen universe. However, as you probably know, both roles, in the end, went to Pattinson. Cavill simply thought of the rejections as something good that happened in his life. After all, things happen in due time and theres no reason to rush anything.

Even though the movies were huge and have helped to keep Hero in the limelight, it turned out the After franchise has made Hero Fiennes Tiffin uncomfortable being famous, saying that he ‘initially found it overwhelming.’

Once again, J. K. Rowling was very adamant when it came to not allowing the movie about the most famous wizard to be cast using American actors… Being British herself, she put enormous pressure on the production team to get what she wanted. In the end, she got it her way: the cast ended up being entirely British, which indeed, gave a special feeling to the movies. So, in addition to Liam Aiken, Robin Williams, who was cast to play the iconic Rubeus Hagrid, was also vetoed from the saga. This beloved character was, in the end, portrayed with great mastery by Robbie Coltrane. We are sure that, like Coltrane, Williams would have done a great job!

Nina Young As The Grey Lady
When the ghost of the Grey Lady first appeared in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, no one could have predicted how important the character would later become. True to the first few books, she was originally depicted as just another one of the many poltergeists that pesters the students of Hogwarts, with actress Nina Young floating around in the CGI role. However, it would eventually be revealed in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that she was so much more than some random apparition.
The Grey Lady was Rowena Ravenclaws daughter Helena, who had given Tom Riddle access to her mothers diadem so that it could be made into one of his horcruxes. Considering the enhanced importance of the role that emerged in the later books, the film part was given to a more accomplished actress instead of its originator. Kelly Macdonald, who was tearing up the silver and small screens alike with her celebrated work in No Country for Old Men and Boardwalk Empire, stepped into the ghosts shoes to give them a little more gravitas in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. According to Pottermore, the actress had previously been considered for the role of Nymphadora Tonks.

Helen Mccrory Bellatrix Lestrange
The great and scary witch, Bellatrix Lestrange, was originally going to be played by Helen McCrory. With McCrory being English, there was no possible veto coming from J.K. Rowling. However, at the time in which the Harry Potter movies were to be shot, the star from Netflixs drama series Peaky Blinders became pregnant. Theres probably no better reason to give up playing such an amazing character. Eventually, it was Helena Bonham Carter who replaced McCrory and she delivered one of the best performances of the saga. THE stars of Harry Potter are all grown up as they look back on the past twenty years since the films first hit our screens.
One actor looks completely different from his role as the Dark Wizard in the franchise’s sophomore film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Christian Coulson was one of three actors to play the young Voldemort and was the first character to play a 16-year-old version of the evil character already getting up to no good in Hogwarts.
He was 22 years old when he made a floppy-haired appearance in the Chamber of Secrets.
These days Christian, now 43, looks as dapper as ever, and since 2010 he has lived in New York working as an actor and director.

Tilda Swinton Sybill Trelawney
Oscar winner Emma Thompson took on the role of Professor Sybill Trelawney. However, before the deal was closed between the producers and Thompson, the character was first offered to fellow Golden Statuette winner Tilda Swinton, who turned it down. While her decision might come across as something strange when looking back, as Swinton explained in an interview, according to her the saga romanticized boarding school life and she didnt really want to be a part of that:
I think this is a very cruel environment that children have to grow up in, and I dont think its beneficial to their education. Were not entirely sure if Swinton was right or not to reject the role, but one thing we can all agree with is that Emma Thompson was as perfect for the role as Swinton would have been, would she have decided to jump on board.
It Took Two Hours To Apply His Makeup
Voldemort has a very specific scary look, owing largely to the fact that when Harry first meets him, hes essentially been resurrected from the dead.
He has deathly white and veiny skin, no hair, and snake-like slits where his nose should be. In the books, Voldemorts eyes are red, but the filmmakers decided to keep Ralph Fiennes eyes blue, which makes Voldemort seem more real and more frightening.

According to Looper, it still took up to two hours a day to prepare the actor for the part. The makeup team had to be as quick as possible because Fiennes only had a limited amount of time every day to shoot his scenes with the child actors, who legally werent allowed to spend the entire day on set.

Helen Mccrory’s Pregnancy Put Off Her Original Role As Bellatrix Lestrange
Get ready to be shocked Helena Bonham Carter was not the first choice to play Bellatrix Lestrange.
We know it seems impossible to believe because the role seemed like it was almost created especially for the eclectic actress, but it was not the case. Helen McCrory was originally cast to play the demented Bellatrix but her first pregnancy forced her to pull out of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The part was then offered to Helena Bonham Carter and in this case, we really think it turned out just right.
Helen did eventually get to play a role in the last three films of the franchise as Bellatrixs sister, Narcissa Malfoy.

Tim Roth Took A Role In Planet Of The Apes Instead
There are rumors that J.K. Rowling handpicked Alan Rickman for the role of Professor Snape. Now, while we dont know how true this is, it would have made sense. Alan seemed made for this role he was excellent at playing serious, dark characters and of course, he had that voice.
But there were negotiations with another actor for this role as well and that was Tim Roth. A favorite in many Quentin Tarantino movies such as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, Roth might have become the infamous Potions Master, but he decided to take the role of General Thade in Planet of the Apes instead. Probably not Tims best career choice ever, but we think it turned out for the best because Rickman was flawless as Snape.
His Mother Seduced His Father With A Love Potion
As mentioned before, Tom Riddle’s mother seduced Tom’s wealthy Muggle father with a love potion. While some fans dismiss this as just one more bit of magic in the world of Harry Potter, the ugly truth is that Tom Riddle’s mother committed a serious crime. She magically forced a man to be with her against his will, and this is how Tom was conceived. If that wasn’t grim enough, J.K. Rowling herself claimed that this may have doomed young Tom Riddle.

This contributed to Tom’s inability to understand love, and it’s why he often sparred with Dumbledore on the idea of love being the most powerful magic of all. If his mother had not used that love potion, the older Voldemort would not have underestimated the love that Harry’s parents had for their son a love that ultimately saved Harry’s life. Then again, if he wasn’t born from a loveless union, Tom Riddle may have never become evil in the first place.
