Judianna Makovsky served as the costume designer. She re-designed the Quidditch robes, having initially planned to use those shown on the cover of the American book, but deemed them “a mess.” Instead, she dressed the Quidditch players in “preppie sweaters, 19th-century fencing breeches and arm guards.” Production designer Stuart Craig built the sets at Leavesden Studios, including Hogwarts Great Hall, basing it on many English cathedrals. Although originally asked to use an existing old street to film the Diagon Alley scenes, Craig decided to build his own set, comprising Tudor, Georgian and Queen Anne architecture.
Columbus originally planned to use both animatronics and CGI animation to create the magical creatures, including Fluffy. Nick Dudman, who worked on Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, was given the task of creating the needed prosthetics, with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop providing creature effects. John Coppinger stated that the magical creatures that needed to be created had to be designed multiple times. The film features nearly 600 special effects shots, involving numerous companies. Industrial Light & Magic created Lord Voldemort‘s face on the back of Quirrell, Rhythm & Hues animated Norbert and Sony Pictures Imageworks produced the Quidditch scenes.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was Rowlings first screenplay, and it shows. If you squint, theres a good movie within Fantastic Beasts about the rise of fascism in the Wizarding World in the 1920s. Unfortunately, studios have to sell stuffed animals. So Fantastic Beasts wraps its dark Grindelwald origin story inside a movie about a dorky magical creature enthusiast scurrying across 1920s New York City trying to round up adorable critters. The platypus-esque Nifflers are, undeniably, cute, and the other CGI creatures are quite impressive. But the bipolar movie never quite ties the two plots together.
Theres hope that Rowling could rectify this issue in future films. One of Rowlings best talents is actually intricate plottingthe early Harry Potter books and their adaptations would often weave plots together to make a more cohesive whole. The author would patiently plant the seeds of a plot point in an early novel that would then bloom in the later books to stunning effect. Perhaps its unfair to judge Fantastic Beasts on just the first two entries . But so far the franchise has failed to cast a spell over its audience.

The Harry Potter video game series received mixed reviews from critics. Nintendo consoles scored higher marks than other console releases. According to media review site Metacritic, the series received its best response for the Chamber of Secrets game. Despite the game being created differently for different systems, the game was rated higher consoles across the board against every other entry in the series.

Child Help Line Prepares For Calls
Meanwhile, a British counselling service for children is adding extra staff to help child readers upset by the outcome of the last Harry Potter book.
Rowling revealed earlier in 2007 that two main characters would die in the final instalment of the seven-book series.
ChildLine, a confidential 24-hour help line for children, says readerscould be devastated if several main characters die in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
“For many children, Harry Potter and his friends have become a major part of their childhood,” Kate Trench, a senior supervisor with ChildLine, told The Guardian newspaper.
“Death and loss of any kind can make children feel upset, angry and afraid. The story could bring back unhappy memories for children who have lost friends, relatives or pets.”
Publishers, including Raincoast Books, have spent a reported $20 million USin security to keep the outcome a secret,but to no avail. Copies of the book have apparently slipped out.
The New York Times, the Baltimore Sun and one paper in Paris have reviewed the book and revealed the details. Hundreds of Deathly Hallows copies are already on sale through eBay.
Scholastic, the U.S. publisher, admits “one-100th of one per cent of the total U.S. copies”were shipped prematurely. With a print run of 12 million, that would mean about 1,200 copies.
Rowling has expressed outrage at the plot leaks and has begged those in the know to keep quiet.
Rowling said she “felt terrible for a week” after finishing Deathly Hallows.
