How Often Is The Hogwarts At Night Castle Light Show
The current Nighttime Lights Hogwarts schedule is every twenty minutes from when it begins at dusk. In fact the Nighttime Lights schedule is one of our favorite things about visiting Hogwarts at night for the simple fact of how often the show runs. One of our favorite ways to end the night is to grab an ice cream in Hogsmeade and to watch the Nighttime Lights show on Hogwarts castle a few times!

Dark Arts At Hogwarts Castle Nighttime Light Show Returns For 2021
Universal Orlando is known worldwide for the best scary style Halloween event known as Halloween Horror Nights. That event happens entirely within Universal Studios Florida. Though there were some historical exceptions, Islands of Adventure was not themed to Halloween season.
In the last few years, some of this has changed for IOA. Last year, guests 12 and under were allowed to trick or treat in costume around IOA. Yet perhaps the coolest scary or Halloween type theming added to IOA is the Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle nighttime lightshow. This made its appearance in 2019 and did not return in 2020 due to cultural conditions.
For all Wizarding World and/or scary themed event fans, the Dark Arts show is returning starting September 18th, 2021.
This version of the nighttime light show consists of projections, lights, and music on the Hogwarts Castle, located in the Hogsmeade area of Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Dementors, Death Eaters, and other dark creatures will swarm the Hogwarts Castle, led by Lord Voldemort himself.
To go with this spectacular, a musical score composed by the uber-talented John Williams accompanies the show.
Shows are scheduled to run nightly from around dusk to park closing. Most nights IOA is open until 8pm so this should give you plenty of time to enjoy one of the showings.
Universal Orlando has also confirmed that Death Eaters will return this year roaming Hogsmeade during the evening hours also.

Hogwarts Light Show Times And Dates
Universal Orlandos website and app both state that showtimes are not available for the Harry Potter world light show times for 2022. That is most likely because the show depends on when it gets dark! As for showtimes, make sure to head over to Islands of Adventure into Hogsmeade Village around dusk, and even if you miss the first show, there will be another in 20 minutes.
As for Hogwarts Nighttime Show dates, Universal also states that it is offered on select nights. So unfortunately, we do not have a set schedule. An insider tip is to periodically check the Universal Orlando app and they may release Hogwarts showtimes closer to night. If there still are no Hogwarts Nighttime Show schedule during your visit, make sure to ask an available team member if the show is running that day!

Another Harry Potter show at Universal Orlando is The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle. This nighttime lights at Hogwarts castle schedule shows exclusively at Universal Orlando during Christmas which is mid-November through early January. This universal castle show features the sights and sounds of the holiday season, including a majestically large Christmas tree, the Hogwarts ghosts singing carols, a recreation of the Yule Ball, and students riding broomsticks and creating snowmen.

Was A Real Castle Used In ‘harry Potter’
Hogwarts is a mixture of locations that have been filmed to make look as if they are all part of the castle, with some parts built. For example, the iconic wooden bridge was invented for something to connect the Hogwarts grounds to Hagrid’s hut and first features in the third ‘Harry Potter’ movie. The bridge was constructed from wood and fiberglass, and there is only one section of the bridge built to scale. The rest was either a miniature version or CGI.

Alnwick Castle is one of the real-life locations used to film Hogwarts, and features in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The castle can be found in Northumberland, England. Many of the exterior shots are filmed in Scotland, with the bridge that the Hogwarts Express chugs along being a very popular tourist sight.
Many other locations from the movies can be found in London, such as King’s Cross Station , the London Zoo whose Reptile House featured in the second Harry Potter movie and St Paul’s Cathedral, whose stunning spiraling staircases were used for some of the Hogwarts shots in the later Harry Potter movies.

Per the the Universal Orlando app, the Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts are held on select nights in Islands of Adventure park for guests to enjoy. The Hogwarts castle light show times begin at dusk to park close. Typically, nighttime lights shows begin around 7:15 PM, but can also be 8:15 PM.
Because of Daylight Savings Time they can start as early as 6:45 PM. This makes the Nighttime lights Hogwarts schedule always changing due to when the sun sets! We always recommend checking the times guide once you arrive at Universal Orlando, checking the official Universal Orlando app, or speaking with a team member to confirm the Nighttime Lights show start time!

Best Viewing Of The Nighttime Lights At Hogwarts Castle
There are a few things to know about getting the best viewing and finding showtimes. The showtimes may vary each night, and your best source for showtimes is going to be a team member in a wizard robe. You can check the Universal Studios Hollywood app to see if the times are posted there. They often are not shown there, and Universal no longer gives out printed showtimes. You’ll probably need to refer to in-park signage for exact show times.
The first show will usually begin once it is dark, and then the 5-minute show will run every 15 to 20 minutes. The number of shows per night may vary based on sunset and park hours. Often, if there are many wizards and muggles packed in for the first show, the audiences will get a surprise early start to the show! That has happened to us on more than one occasion, so be prepared for an early show if the area is full early. Its magic so they can do what they want! Weve experienced the surprise early showing during the Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle show, as well, so it seems to pay to hop in place early. Mommy Frog always says, “The early frog gets the flies.”

Can You Visit The Real Hogwarts Castle
The best way to see the locations and set props from the movies is to visit the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London, where you can explore the sets and discover behind-the-scenes secrets. At the studio tour, fans can see the Great Hall, the wooden bridge, and even the Hogwarts express. Visitors also get a chance to fly a broom and see the costumes used in the movies.

As for Alnwick Castle, fans of ‘Harry Potter’ can visit the castle! There is plenty to do at the castle from talks and tours to visiting the museum. But that Potterheads will be most interested in is Broomstick Training, which takes place on the castle grounds in the exact same spot where Harry Potter’s first flying lesson with Madam Hooch was filmed.
Fans really miss Harry Potter, and seeing behind-the-scenes footage and photos does not help with that grief Potterheads still feel about the magical world they grew up with having to come to an end, and in fact, makes Potterheads miss Harry Potter even more.
The ‘Harry Potter’ movies provided a magical escape for many fans and will always be an important part of their childhoods, and seeing their favorite actors come together for a reunion really was something special, as they watched Daniel Radcliff, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint reunite in the Gryffindor common room.

Plus you can do some shopping or spells to keep you busy until showtime. The rides remain open during the shows. You might wait in line for Flight of the Hippogriff to catch a glimpse of an earlier show. You can get a ride in before you get in place for your viewing. The evening is also the best time to catch a wand pairing at Ollivanders because the line almost magically disappears at the end of the night. Seriously, we walked right in at 6:30 p.m.!

The nighttime light show is good. Be prepared to arrive early or wait for last show of night if you want a good viewing spot. The show is less than 4 minutes and resembles the light show at USH. However if you are a HP fan, then you should not miss this and IOA is/was truly in need of some more nighttime entertainment. Be prepared for huge crowds in a cramped area. Please be nice to team members because they are doing their best with the space/ WB/JK current restrictions in that area.Also if you have not gotten to ride Forbidden Journey that day at IOA then the wait times go down dramatically while people wait for the light show. For example during ACOHP, the wait time for FJ went down from 65 minutes to 15 in the space of 30 minutes while people gathered to view light show. You will have to push through crowd but FJ will be your prize.

The Hogwarts Dark Arts Light Show at Universal Orlando appears during Halloween season, giving Hogsmeade a spooky transformation. The Universal Studios castle is taken over by Lord Voldemorts cruel legions, like Death Eaters, Dementors, mountain trolls, Inferi, and Aragog the Acromantula. Outside of Halloween Horror Nights, this is one of our favorite things to experience when visiting Universal Orlando during the Halloween season!
