What Is Hogsmeade In Harry Potter

Don't Miss

Harry Sneaks In Without Any Trouble

Hogsmeade Tour! – The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort

Granted his wizarding cloak was made with some very sophisticated and high-powered magic, it still doesnt make sense that Harry could sneak into Hogsmeade with the cloak, undetected. Fans have often noted that for an all-wizarding village, Hogsmeade’s security or even overall monitoring is quite lax.

Surely, theyd need to have some paraphernalia in place even for regular students from Hogwarts who attempt to trespass, but the books offer no explanation of how severely or leniently Hogsmeade operates.

Top Things To Do At Hogsmeade

  • Ride the Hogwarts Express# between both lands of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
  • Taste Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice: Head to the Three Broomsticks and the Hog’s Head pub to sample some iconic wizarding food and drinks!
  • Send a letter from the Owl Post and get it stamped with the Hogsmeade postmark!
  • Stock up on Hogwarts school supplies and magic sweets at the shops in Hogsmeade village
  • See a wand choose its wizard at Ollivanders wand shop

Insider Tip

If youre planning on visiting both parks, its a good idea to ride the Hogwarts Express as its the best way to stay immersed in the magic as you travel between King’s Cross Station in Universal Studios Florida and Hogsmeade Station in Universals Islands of Adventure.

And as the sun begins to set, its recommended you make your way back to Hogsmeade to watch The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle.

Dont forget the train journeys are different depending which way youre travelling, so make sure you also take the train both ways!

Insider Tip: Get Early Park Admission!

If youre staying at a Universal Orlando hotel youll get the added bonus of EARLY PARK ADMISSION* to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter or Universals Volcano Bay.

Hogsmeade Was Home To The Headquarters Of Wizard Radio

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, we see how radio is used as an important device for keeping people informed in the wizarding world. Before things got so dark, there was also mention of wizarding radio being used for entertainment purposes. In Hogsmeade, the Wizarding Wireless Network Headquarters made its home. While this isnt ever mentioned in the books, information from Pottermore and the theme parks mentions this location.

When To Go To Hogsmeade

As you can see, Hogsmeade has a lot to do. It is therefore difficult to say exactly how much time to spend and what time to get there.

In a perfect world, it would take 3 days to enjoy Universal’s two parks. At first, only the attractions of the Islands of Adventures. In the second, only from Universal Studios.

And in the third, only the two areas of Harry Potter. In this case, in the morning at Hogsmeade, I would have lunch at the Three Brooms and take the Hogwarts Express. Hogsmeade stayed for the afternoon.

Ideally, this is the best script to do.

However, if you only have a day for the Islands of AdventureWe recommend leaving the afternoon to visit Hogsmeade.

In that case, you would need the Universal Express Pass to do all the major attractions in the morning, and in the afternoon, spend the day having fun in the place.

Sure, you wouldn’t be able to see all the details, but you could have a lot of fun, leaving shopping for the end of the day before you leave.

Among all the attractions, we recommend that you see everything, of course. However, if time is up, make the first three attractions on the priority list and, if you want, go shopping.

There is no doubt that any Harry Potter fan will leave Hogsmeade delighted, right? Who is not a fan to enjoy the attractions, but will not have the same grace, it is fact.

It Even Has Its Own Radio Station

9 Things About Hogsmeade The Harry Potter Movies Leave Out

One of the most unique institutions on Hogsmeade’s bustling “High Street” was the studio headquarters of the Wizarding Wireless Network radio station. Given the station’s proximity to Hogwarts, it’s not surprising it was extraordinarily popular among young witches and wizards all over Great Britain.

The station hosted a variety of regular shows, played a host of the most popular musical hits, and regularly updated its audience on news from around the Wizarding World. Glenda Chittock’s “Wizarding Hour” was the most common source of music on the air, and Tilden Toots’ “Toots, Shoots ‘n’ Roots” herbology segment was a popular piece of media among the nation’s avid mystical gardeners.

During Voldemort’s brief reign during the Second Wizarding War, WNN and its news segments basically became unreliable propaganda tools of the now-corrupt Ministry of Magic, and a rival, pirate radio station called “Potterwatch” soon became its main competitor, as those who wished to know what was actually happening now had to tune in there.

Harry Potter: The Untold Truth Of Hogsmeade

It may not be anywhere near as famous as its neighbor, but the village of Hogsmeade has a charm and glamour all its own. Nestled somewhere in an unspecified mountain range in Scotland, this little hamlet is easily accessible from the “unplottable” campus of the internationally renowned Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hogsmeade is a beautiful collection of warm cabins with snow-covered rooftops silhouetted against the mountains that surround it on every side and of shops that keep its streets filled and busy with traffic.

Though not as mysterious as its erstwhile neighbor, Hogsmeade has its own collection of secrets. Originally founded just after Hogwarts sometime in the 10th or 11th century, the village has had around one thousand years to build up a substantial amount of bones in its closet, and they must be brought to light. It is time to learn the untold truth of Hogsmeade Village.

Class Sizes And Durationedit

Get Lost In Hogsmeades Storefronts

The curved main street of Hogsmeade Village is one of the most beautiful sights in all of Universal Orlando Resort, with its cobblestone road and haphazard shop windows. Ironically, it may also be, given its well-trodden status as the theme-park lands main artery of traffic, one of its most overlooked aspects.

Stopping and taking in all of the many wonderful details that are to be found in the various storefronts is an enterprise that can easily take hours of your time and yield lots of rewards. A replica of Hermione Grangers Yule Ball dress is proudly on display in one at another, you can find a Howler, a magical letter that, well, howls the senders displeasure at its recipient. At Scrivenshafts Quill Shops window, you can watch a quill record the names of newly born wizarding babies, while over in Spintwitches Sporting Needs, Quidditch equipment struggles to break free.

Its hard to find a better way to get completely absorbed in Harrys wondrous world and that goes double if you do it at night, when the storefronts are beautifully lit.

The Case For Hogsmeade

In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, a new realm of opportunities opened up to Hogwarts students: access to the neighbouring village of Hogsmeade. Described as looking like a Christmas card due to its abundance of snow, the village was awash with pubs, thatched houses, tea shops, joke shops and beyond and even includes its own tourist attraction in the supposedly haunted Shrieking Shack. See? Already that sounds pretty brilliant.

Although wed already become quite accustomed with the joyful hustle and bustle of Diagon Alley, discovering Hogsmeade was even more intriguing. We associated Diagon Alley with getting back to school, picking up books and supplies and the like, while Hogsmeade was designed as a break from school, a chance for students to unwind and properly start feeling more independent. After all, the trip was only available to third-year Hogwarts students and beyond getting to go to Hogsmeade was like a dream for the younger pupils.

While Hogwarts students were more likely go to Diagon Alley with their parents or families, Hogsmeade was altogether the cooler option to go with your friends, or even go on dates. It is altogether quirkier, more interesting and more varied than Diagon Alley, and served as an important location for many key moments in the Harry Potter series.

Hogwarts Students Could Get New Quills At Scrivenshafts Quill Shop

My Harry Potter Guide To Universalâs Hogsmeade

As the only all-wizard village in all of Britain, it makes sense that most basic magic supplies could be found there. The village is also very close to Hogwarts and the students visit there often.

Having a place to buy school supplies when they ran out throughout the year was a must, and Scrivenshafts Quill Shop was where students would buy quills and parchment if they ran out. Hermione mentions going there at one point in the books. Its definitely a good thing that Hogwarts students dont have to worry about going all the way to Diagon Alley during the school year as this wouldnt be allowed.

Visiting The Real Hogsmeade Station From The Harry Potter Films

When I moved to Scotland, I felt like my life had become just that much more magical. Growing up I read and fell in love with the Harry Potter series. Ever since then, it has always been one of my dreams to explore the United Kingdom finding places filming locations along with their original inspirations from the novels.

Now that meant that the Glenfinnan Viaduct should have been the top of my list. But for some reason, when you live close to places, you dont actually visit them. Which is why years later, Ive found myself making up for lost time.

Were living in England and Im slowly but surely visiting those all important sights that remind me of my favourite novels. I should also say that Im visiting those magical locations in America too the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is one of my all-time favourite places to go.

On a recent trip up to York , I decided that visiting the train station where they filmed Hogsmeade Station was a must on my list.

Hogwarts Express Hogsmeade Station

Hogsmeades third attraction is also a means of transportation between the Wizarding World lands. Hogwarts Express is a faithful recreation of the majestic train system that transports Harry and his friends to and from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry each school year. This highly enjoyable and relatively relaxing ride utilizes moving window projection screens and special lighting effects to create enchanted landscapes and recognizable characters. As the British countryside changes to lands off-limits to muggles through the windows, Harry, Ron and Hermione encounter friends, and foes on the other side of the frosted glass cabin doors. The effects are fun and impressive and the air-conditioned train cars make this a nice break from the heat while traveling to Diagon Alley. It should be noted that guests may only take advantage of Hogwarts Express if they have Universals Park to Park ticket. Eligible for Universal Express Pass.

What Part Of The Philosophers Stone Was Filmed Here

Which Part Of The Wizarding World Is BEST? Hogsmeade VS Diagon Alley

Youll remember seeing Goathland Station as Harry and crew pull up to Hogsmeade for the first time. Its where he spots Hagrid again before they take the boats across the water to the castle.

You can see exactly where Hagrid greeted them and then waved goodbye to all the students too. At the end of the first film, Hermione says Feels strange to be going home, doesnt it? and my favourite line back from Harry, Im not going home, not really. Because Hogwarts will always feel like home! Emotions were high wandering around the station I promise you that.

And what I love so much about Goathland Station is how easily you can imagine Hogwarts Castle sitting on top of the hill. Not to mention a stroll down to Hogsmeade Village too.

Have you ever traveled somewhere because the location features in one of your favourite films or movies? Or if you could travel to one fictional spot, where would you go? I do think mine will always be Hogwarts and the entire wizarding world .

Lots of love,

Knowing The Different Areas Of Harry Potter In Orlando

A lot of people don’t really understand how they work the Harry Potter areas at Universal’s parks in Orlando. In fact, people don’t know that they are areas, in the plural.

They imagine it to be a single area or at most a few attractions. They could not be more wrong.

Universal built two major areas of Harry Potter, each in one of its parks. Diagon Alley is at Universal Studios, while Hogsmeade is at Islands of Adventures.

  • Carlos and Nath at Diagon Alley
  • Hogsmeade at Island of Adventure

The two areas are interconnected by the Hogwarts Express, which is an attraction in itself. To get from one to the other, however, it is important to have a ticket that allows you to walk in both parks.

In both areas, fans can enjoy Harry Potter attractions as well as shops, restaurants and recreational activities.

The difference is that the areas are set differently according to the books. In Hogsmeade, the idea is to be a village where Hogwarts students go.

The stores mentioned in the books, for example, are there, as are the Three Brooms. In addition, due to its proximity to Hogwarts, the castle-like attractions are also located in Hogsmeade.

Alley Diagonal has attractions focused on it, as well as shops and other attractions of its kind.

The only thing in both places apart from the Harry Potter theme is Ollivanders, the shop that sells wands to visitors.
