Thats a heavy responsibility! It took seven months of searching in 2000 before Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint were chosen for the roles.
Radcliffe was discovered by producer David Heyman and writer Steve Kloves in a theater. He already had a role in a BBC production of David Copperfield.
As for Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, they had no on-screen experience at all and had only performed in school plays.

Chris Columbus directs this Harry Potter movie and really does a fantastic job of bringing new and old fans of the characters into this world. If this first film wasnt so well received, who knows if the franchise would have gained as much success as it did. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone really set the films up for potential success.
