Two decades later, Watson still remembers Feltons call-sheet number because she looked for it every day of production, and if his number was on the call sheet, it was an extra-exciting day.

I think I was in the hair and makeup chair, and someone said something along the lines of, Yeah, she has a crush on you, adds Felton, who became very protective over Watson.

Though Watson insists nothing has ever, ever, ever happened romantically between them, Felton admits hes always had a soft spot for her … that continues to the day.

Tom was the one I could often be more vulnerable with, Watson says. We just love each other. Thats all I can say about that.

A few weeks ago, HBO Max released a reunion film for the Harry Potter franchise. Its been 20 years since the release of the first film in the series, something that might seem unbelievable. Nonetheless, it is very evident just how far so many of these actors have come since starring in this series which so many of us grew up watching.

The series was a dichotomy of analysis on the behind-the-scenes in the making of each individual film, starting at the beginning and venturing to the end. The Floating Candles In The Great Hall Were Real

While the Harry Potter films used a lot of CGI to bring magic to life on screen, the floating candles in the Great Hall were one of the few exceptions. The cast revealed that the set designers used real burning candles in the Great Hall.

“One of my favorite moments on set ever was the moment when all the floated candles started burning through the ropes that tied them to the ceiling and just started falling through the Great Hall,” Radcliffe joked.

The Harry Potter reunion special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, is now streaming on HBO Max and while most of the cast and more came together for the special, there was one noteworthy absence. Harry Potter creator and author J.K. Rowling did not appear in the special which featured, among others, stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. Rowling also did not contribute a new interview for the special and now the reason for her absence has been confirmed. According to Entertainment Weekly, Rowling was invited to participate in the special, but her team ultimately decided that previous comments from Rowling were sufficient for the reunion. The special ended up including archival footage of Rowling from 2019.

Entertainment Weekly‘s report noted that Rowling’s controversial transphobic comments was not a part in the decision for the author’s absence in the reunion. Rowling has come under fire from fans in recent years after a series of anti-trans tweets and remains a polarizing figure. Harry Potter stars Grint, Radcliffe, and Watson have all voiced support for the trans community, with Radcliffe in particular writing a statement on The Trevor Project in 2020 condemning Rowling’s words.

As it turns out, she is in the special albeit for about a minute in a couple of exceedingly brief and insubstantial clips gleaned from archival footage.

While her lack of participation in the special remains unexplained, its not difficult to guess whats going on here. In a conversation set in Dumbledores office, Radcliffe and director Chris Columbus reveal an accidental prank on actor Richard Harris, in which they were both complicit. During Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harris, who played Dumbledore in the first two films, shared scenes with Radcliffe and an animatronic phoenix. This model was so lifelike that he thought it was a real bird. The young Radcliffe didnt dare correct him, and Columbus harnessed that fancy for the performance. Harris died after the second film, which means he believed it was a real phoenix for the rest of his days.
