The Harry Potter series has turned on a portkey and is getting ready to stop using one of its current streaming platforms. The eight movies are now available for streaming on HBO Max, but due to an earlier licence arrangement established before Warner Bros started its streaming service, that is about to change.
The Harry Potter film series has previously abandoned streaming services. In reality, since HBO Maxs debut in 2020, they have relocated every few months. The so-called Wizarding World franchises other movies, on the other hand, tend to move around while remaining stationary.
The eight Harry Potter films will no longer be available on HBO Max as of August 31. The good news is that the movies are available on a different reputable streaming service. No one was surprised when Peacock added all of the Harry Potter movies to its collection on July 1.
What Would A New Harry Potter Series Even Be About
Well, that’s the million-galleon dollar question. There are, presumably, centuries of unexplored wizarding life and nearly countless established Harry Potter backstories to fill in. Really: you can let your mind run wild on this one. That said, there’s a Harry Potter video game in development called Hogwarts Legacy, which will explore 19th-Century life at the school. Then, there’s the play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which would be an enticing option to adapt, given the possibility of stars like Daniel Radcliffe joining in.
Of course, there’s the big-screen Fantastic Beasts series, which follows a Harry Potter deep-cut reference adventuring around the 1920s-era magical world. All of that? Doesn’t include the possibility that we could something entirely new set in the world of Harry Potter.Last possibility: HBO and Warner Bros. could always reboot the universe, recast the main players, and adapt the books for TV. That’s something Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe believes will happen someday.
“It will be interesting to see how long those films stay it feels like theres a sacredness around them at the moment, but thatll go, the shine will wear off at some point,” Radcliffe told IGN. “Itll be interesting if they reboot them and just do the films again or do a series Im fascinated to watch.”
Harry Potter Hbo Max Series Cast And Crew
Again, details about talent or writers are still incredibly scarce. All The Hollywood Reporter has to say is that there has been multiple conversations with potential writers for the show.
Theres a couple of obvious options here. Steve Kloves was the screenwriter for seven of the main Harry Potter films and is also lined up to co-write the third film in the Fantastic Beasts series.
There is also of course the creator of the universe J.K. Rowling, though studios have been distancing themselves from her lately due to her transphobic comments online.
Behind the camera, we also wouldnt be surprised to see David Yates return the director with the most experience and familiarity with the Potter series. However, his style tends to lean towards the darker side of the films, which may not suit whatever series is being planned.
On the casting front, again it all depends on what the show is about. To draw in crowds, we may get cameos from the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Maggie Smith and Michael Gambon or even from Jude Law as young Dumbledore. Of course, this is all just hypothetical at this stage.

‘harry Potter’ Films Leaving Hbo Max In August
Bad news for Potterheads: all eight Harry Potter movies will be removed from HBO Max on August 31. However, the good news is that the films can be found on another well-known streaming platform. Peacock added all Harry Potter films to its library on July 1, a shock to no one. The Harry Potter franchise has been used as a popular series attraction for both streaming services for a while now, with the movies disappearing from one platform only to show up on the other.
With all that being said, Potterheads can expect Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore to remain on HBO Max. Also, the platform still offers viewers the chance to watch the reunion of the Harry Potter cast and director Chris Columbus as they discuss the making of the films in Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.
For those unfamiliar or curious about the film series, Harry Potter is based on author J.K. Rowlings childrens fantasy book series by the same name. It follows the story of protagonist Harry Potter and his two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, as they navigate the mysteries and turmoil of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as Harry prepares for the final showdown with Lord Voldemort, a dark wizard who plans to become immortal and ultimately dominate the wizarding and muggle, non-wizarding, worlds.
Why Do The Harry Potter Movies Continue To Move
Deals struck before either HBO Max or Universal had streaming services appear to be the primary factor. The TV rights for the movies were about to expire in 2016 after being owned by ABC for a long time. NBCUniversal received cable rights to air the movies on SyFy and USA at the time, while HBO purchased the streaming rights to air the movies on its HBO Go and HBO Now platforms.
The NBC arrangement, though, was crucial since it permitted the movies to air on the SyFy and USA digital platforms. In essence, this indicates that each provider has a claim to the films digital rights, which explains why they constantly changing services.
It appears likely that this will continue. Since the NBC contract wont expire until 2025, little is likely to change until then.

In January 2021, it was reported that a live-action Harry Potter TV series was in development.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say “that executives at the WarnerMedia-backed streamer have engaged in multiple conversations with potential writers exploring various ideas that would bring the beloved property to television. Sources say broad ideas have been discussed as part of the early-stage exploratory meetings.”
This came as major news to fans of the franchise, as things have been kept in the pages and on the big screen up to this point. A TV show could legitimately take things in any direction and be set in any period, meaning that more aspects of the Wizarding World itself could be unlocked.
Numerous franchises have taken to the small screen to expand their respective universes, and the Wizarding World could be a perfect fit on HBO Max, which is looking to grow and compete with other streaming services.

Hbo Max Reportedly Developing Harry Potter Prequel Series About Snape
While the fate of the Wizarding World on the big screen following Fantastic Beasts 3 is uncertain, Warner Bros. looks set to mine the Harry Potteruniverse on streaming instead. At least one TV series based on the J.K. Rowling-created phenomenon has been officially announced, with various others reportedly in the works. Now we can add another to the list, as per our latest intel.
Our reliable sources the same ones who told us about the streamers Justice League Dark series before that was confirmed have informed us that a prequel show based around Severus Snape is in development at HBO Max. The Hogwarts Potions Master, as famously played by the much-missed Alan Rickman in the movies, is one of the most beloved and fascinating characters in the Wizarding World, so you can see why giving him his own vehicle would be an enticing idea.
For one, Snape has a complex backstory that is only revealed in the final book/film in the series, The Deathly Hallows. As a child, he was best friends with Harrys mother Lily, before he became embittered at her blossoming relationship with his bully James Potter at school. He then joined the Death Eaters but secretly defected to Dumbledore once Voldemort planned to kill the Potters. After finding out the truth, Harry named his second son, Albus Severus, after him.

As of February 2021, there are ten movies set in the Harry Potter universe. You might have heard but if you havent, I must inform you as a mightily happy Hufflepuff, that HBO Max is in talks to develop a Harry Potter television series! Grab your Quibbler and settle in for some good old-fashioned theorizing because this is exciting and also theres not much to go on so speculation is even more fun. Thats a fair assessment considering the complicated rights around the Harry Potter franchise. J.K. Rowling has the final word on the franchise but both NBCUniversal and HBO Max have inked deals negotiating streaming rights. HBO Max streamed the films when the service aired initially for a few months, and the films have since relocated to Peacock, Universals streamer. On top of complex rights, J.K. herself has been in hot water as well as drama attached to the Fantastic Beasts films. Many people were quick to comment that HP doesnt necessarily deserve attention right now considering the behavior of the author. So where does that leave us? Well, I plan on ignoring her nasty behavior and embracing the hope and acceptance that Harry Potter actually portrays, and happily focusing on what the new series could be about.
