The show is decidedly not a musical , as it does not feature any singing, although there is a great deal of music in the show.
The show has many lower priced ticket options and has seen large numbers of children and younger adults coming to the show who have never seen a Broadway show before, often as high as 30% of the audience.
It is this demographic that has been used to paying $10 for a Harry Potter book or $15 to see the movie, that would find it hard to pay over $100 for the show, so Harry Potter offers many lower priced ticket options to draw them in, including a lottery, standing room only and Verified Fan ticket sales that sell for upwards of $25 per ticket.
What Is The Dress Code For Attending This Broadway Musical
The big day is coming up and you don’t know what to wear? The first thing I have to tell you is that there is no specific dress code for attending a Broadway musical. If you take a look around you, you’ll notice that every audience member dresses to their liking. While some are very comfortable in their jeans and an original sweater, others take the opportunity to dress up a little more. After all, it’s a unique event!
In this sense, you can consider a couple of details to choose your wardrobe. First of all, which session you are going to. The daytime session allows for a more casual outfit, while for the afternoon or evening session, attendees tend to be more dressed up. Think, for example, that after the play you might want to go to a nice restaurant or have a drink.
Generally speaking, it is not recommended to go too sporty . If you’re traveling to New York in the summer, be sure to pack an extra layer so that the air conditioning doesn’t catch you off guard.

The producers recommend that anyone coming to see this show would benefit by reading the synopsis of the fourth book in the series, at the very least. Having said that, the show does give enough exposition for adults who are unfamiliar with the whole Harry Potter phenomenon to play catch up pretty quickly.
Two Plays Were Finally Rolled Into One
For the two years prior to COVID-19, the show was shown in two different parts, requiring two separate tickets often on different days, with a total running time of about 6 hours. This was 2 hours and 40 minutes long for the first part, and the second part was 2 hours and 35 minutes long. Featuring a cast of over 30 individuals, the two-part show could be seen either back to back on the same day, or over the course of two separate days.
This caused no end of confusion and was seen as a money grab by the greedy JK Rowling who appears was trying to maximize the return on her Potter brand. Rowling knew that there is a small window before the brand falls out of favor with the TIK-TOK and Snapchat generation coming through that are rejecting this kind of fantasy-magic show format and instead focusing on 2 minute cat videos.

Critics Lamented That The Former Two
The original 2-part show was repetitive and a bit boring through its six hour total length. Playwright Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and author J.K. Rowling, worked on a new condensed version of the show, which was easy enough to do.
Critics complained of falling asleep at this show and only occasionally woke up to wipe away their excess dribble. Potter super-fans however lapped up every moment at the show, but producers know that these Potter fanatics are getting older and becoming far fewer in numbers as time goes on.
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender realized that the show could start appealing to the the more mainstream again and they took the COVID hiatus as an opportunity to rework the show, away from Potter fanatics and more towards a general audience.
The new one-parter show will sells better in the post COVID-19 economy, where ticket buyers and NYC visitors are a great deal more scarce. No parent in their right mind would now let their child come to NYC by themselves. There is a realization that we’re not in Kansas anymore.
How Long Is Harry Potter And The Cursed Child On Broadway
The Harry Potter musical lasts approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. In addition, each performance incorporates an intermission of a few minutes so you can go to the restroom or buy water or refreshments.
Previously, the musical was divided into two distinct parts, so the audience had to go to the theater twice. Now the whole show is concentrated in the same session.

I took my son to see the play for his birthday. So grateful we got to see the last show before Broadway went dark. The storyline was fantastic and the plays special effects were amazing as well. The actors were enjoyable and very entertaining. My son thought Scorpius was hilarious. The theatre seating was comfortable but not always easy to see over the heads of people sitting directly in front of us. Price was reasonable for where we were sitting. Would definitely go again for the right price for seats.

If you’re unsure about spending more, it’s completely worth it to choose closer seats. The script was not life-changing for me so I wasn’t expecting to be blown away. I was. This is one of those things you have to experience in person. Trust the reviews!! It’s like watching the entire HP film franchise being crafted right in front of your eyes.
