Are These Works Canonical
There have always been debates about the works of certain authors. J. R. R. Tolkien, for example, has tons of published material now, most of which his son Christopher released after his death. There are different versions of different stories. Which one is canon? Are the versions Tolkien himself published canonical and the rest simply drafts? What if he had published one story, then rewrote it, but never published the later version? Which is canon?
And what about Star Wars? When The Force Awakens opened, we learned the book content was no longer considered canon. So what are the books if not canon? How can something be canon and then rewritten?
And what about contradictions in an authors own published material? Sir Arthur Conan Doyle once called John Watson James apparently by accident. So is that story, by the logic of Slughorns Trophy Wife, no longer canon because it contradicted previously established information? Alexandre Dumas seems to have shaky characterization in some of his storiestheyre so long he probably forgot what happened himself. Is The Three Musketeers no longer canon because DArtagnan changes from installment to installment?
Types Of Drama In Film And Television
The Screenwriters Taxonomy contends that film genres are fundamentally based upon a filmâs atmosphere, character and story, and therefore the labels âdramaâ and âcomedyâ are too broad to be considered a genre. Instead, the taxonomy contends that film dramas are a âTypeâ of film listing at least ten different sub-types of film and television drama.
Dramatized adaptation of real-life events. While not always completely accurate, the general facts are more-or-less true. The difference between a docudrama and a documentary is that in a documentary it uses real people to describe history or current events in a docudrama it uses professionally trained actors to play the roles in the current event, that is “dramatized” a bit. Examples: and .
Different from docudramas, docu-fictional films combine documentary and fiction, where actual footage or real events are intermingled with recreated scenes. Examples: and .
Satire can involve humor, but the result is typically sharp social commentary that is anything but funny. Satire often uses irony or exaggeration to expose faults in society or individuals that influence social ideology. Examples: and .

Draco Malfoy Would Have Become A Monster Had Voldemort Won
If Voldemort had won the war, apparently Draco Malfoy failing in his mission to kill Dumbledore and trying to switch sides wouldnt have mattered, because he became an awful Ministry official who would encourage attacks on Muggles.
Listen. I know Draco Malfoy could be a jerk. I know he wasnt a particularly nice person in school. But it was pretty firmly clarified in the books that he wasnt evil, just spoiled and extremely misguided. It seems weird that circumstances could have pushed him to this.
If I knew there was this version of Draco that could have existed, I would have punched him if I were told this as Harry after I stuck up for him so much.
Inspiration And Mother’s Death
Rowling worked as a researcher and bilingual secretary in London for , then moved with her boyfriend to Manchester where she worked at the Chamber of Commerce. In 1990, she was on a four-hour delayed train trip from Manchester to London when the idea “came fully formed” into her mind for a story of a young boy attending a school of wizardry. When she reached her flat, she began to write immediately.
In December 1990, Rowling’s mother Anne died after suffering from for ten years. Rowling was writing Harry Potter at the time and had never told her mother about it. Her mother’s death heavily affected Rowling’s writing, and she channelled her own feelings of loss by writing about Harry’s grief in greater detail in the first book.

Response Within The Harry Potter Fandom
The response to the play from the Harry Potterfandom was polarizing.Fans responded positively to the play and its characters, with Scorpius Malfoy being particularly popular. Some fans commented that the dialogue between the familiar characters was “spot on”, celebrating it as a faithful continuation of the books. Others have noted that the play sheds light on some of the relationships between the characters, such as Harry and Dumbledore’s. The response had been particularly positive among fans who watched the play on stage.
Some fans however, said the story seemed more “like a work of fan fiction” and said that it diverged from previously established rules of the universe, criticising the script’s characterisation. Some also took issue with the style and plot of the script, complaining that the Time-Turner storylines had already been used, as had Cedric Diggory’s death, and that the writers were rehashing old storylines and over-played tropes of the fantasy/sci-fi genre. These criticisms have led to some of the fandom rejecting the play as separate from the Pottercanon. Rowling, however, feels the story should be considered canon.
Harry Potter & The Cursed Child’s Release Date Is Unconfirmed
Since nothing has been confirmed by either Warner Bros. or JK Rowling, there is no way to predict when a new Harry Potter movie or TV show might be released. However, an adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is not entirely out of the question. The Potter Universe has struggled as of late with the Fantastic Beasts franchise, but bringing back Watson, Radcliffe, and Grint could tempt fans into giving new Potter content a chance. Whether or not the mysterious new HBO Max content will be Harry Potter and the Cursed Child or some other new content, with filming restrictions due to COVID will dictate exactly when the release date will be revealed.

In 2007, Rowling stated that she planned to write an encyclopaedia of Harry Potter‘s consisting of various unpublished material and notes. Any profits from such a book would be given to charity. During a news conference at Hollywood’s in 2007, Rowling, when asked how the encyclopaedia was coming along, said, “It’s not coming along, and I haven’t started writing it. I never said it was the next thing I’d do.” At the end of 2007, Rowling said that the encyclopaedia could take up to ten years to complete.
In June 2011, Rowling announced that future Harry Potter projects, and all electronic downloads, would be concentrated in a new website, called . The site includes 18,000 words of information on characters, places and objects in the Harry Potter universe.

Cursed Child Candidate #: Cedric Diggory
And no, were not talking about the curse of vampirism, here.
As bizarre as it seemed to revisit Cedric Diggorys story in what was marketed as the next chapter in Harrys life, we cant deny that Cedric had a huge influence on everything that happened in Cursed Child. Albus entire motivation for going back in time was to save Cedric, whom he identified with as a fellow spare, and in many ways, Albus emotional breakthrough came when he finally got to tell Cedric that his father loved him.
Although Harry suffered many losses since Cedric, the impact of his fellow Triwizard Champions death in fourth year clearly was still an open wound all these years later, with Harry still blaming himself for Cedrics completely unnecessary death by a #wormtaily hand.
Cedric was the first person Harry saw die, and this traumatic experience led him to be able to see Thestrals. He was the first person killed in conjunction with Voldemorts return. He was a 17-year-old child, on whom the Death Curse was cast. He was, very literally, a cursed child.
Much like the Goblet of Fire, the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Chamber of Secrets and the Deathly Hallows , Cedric wasnt an active participant in the story but he was a catalyst, and a motivator, and the storys preoccupation with him ultimately bookended both Albus and Harrys journeys.

Harry Told Albus He Wishes He Wasnt His Son
Harry was born to loving parents but before he could even begin to form memories, he had to go and live with the Dursleys. With them, he was neglected and abused, and he grew up knowing exactly what it was to feel unloved. He grew up knowing what bad parenting was. So even in a snap moment, why would he say something like this?
A temper isnt a good reasonHarry knows better than that. Ive been in some pretty heated parents with my fight too and theyve never once said they wished I wasnt their child. A real ouch moment.

Would The Harry Potter Cast Return
While recasting the beloved original cast of the Harry Potter franchise would prove a challenging endeavor, the studio might have to for story continuity. The characters are considerably older in the play Harry, Ron and Hermione are in their late 30s when the play takes place. The original three actors of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are all in their early 30s, still a bit too young to convincingly be just a stone’s throw away from 40. However, should the studio decide to adapt Harry Potter and the Cursed Child sometime in the future, they need only wait a few years for their original trio to fit the roles.
Another thing to consider is how Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally cast, which had caused inevitable controversy back in 2016: Hermione Grangers role was cast with a Black actress, which Rowling defended by saying that Hermiones skin color had never been described in detail in the novels. Perhaps Rowling was asserting that anyone could play Hermione so long as she embodied the essence of the character, but if the studio decides to recast the main trio, they should lean into fully recasting every role.

Cursed Child Candidate #: Albus Potter
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child = Harry Potter and His Son Albus?
As much as we love Scorpius Malfoy and Hermione Granger, the real main characters of Cursed Child are Harry and Albus Potter. The father-son dynamic dictates the story, with Albus really carrying the plot forward.
Like Delphi, Albus is cursed by his heritage , and everything he does is motivated by his complicated relationship with his father, and his rejection of the Potter family legacy.
As the main child in the story, it might be logical to conclude that hes also the child the title refers to, and the fact that he ends up in Slytherin, estranged from his family , might qualify as Albus being cursed. Cursed to be the black sheep of the family, cursed to be the spare, and cursed with making all the wrong choices.
But What About All These Tweets And Pottermore Posts Are They Canon
So the body of work of an author is, by definition, canon whether or not readers like it or agree with it. But what is the body of work? Slughorns Trophy Wife mentions theme park rides and video games while Emily at Rose Read explores all other bits of information Rowling has given us through the years from interviews to Tweets to Pottermore.
Here I do not consider things like video games and theme park rides to be canon. Giving other people rights to your work so they can sell stuff does not mean you are giving them artistic authority. However, I do not see why an author providing material in forms other than traditional publication makes their work less valid. Why should Rowlings writings on Pottermore be taken less seriously than they would have been if she had published them in an encyclopedia format as was first suggested? Why should her words hold less weight on Twitter than they would if she bound them in paper and sold them at a bookstore?

Cedric Diggory Was One Bad Day Away From Being A Death Eater
The catastrophic change that Albus and Scorpius make in their second trip to the past is to humiliate Cedric Diggory in the second Triwizard Tournament task by making it look as if his magic went wrong. Cedrics anger over this incident is enough to turn him to Voldemorts cause, and, while fighting as a Death Eater in the Battle of Hogwarts, he kills Neville Longbottom and prevents one of the horcruxes from being destroyed . That was enough to tip the scales and let Voldemort win.
The hellish alternate reality that resulted from this change was scary enough, but the idea that Cedric, long upheld as one of the most honorable characters in the entire series, was so close to becoming evil is unsettling to say the least. But Cursed Child doesnt shy away from graying the lines of good and evil, from Dracos evolution to Scorpius questioned parentage.
