He Is Not Always Self
The Malfoys as a whole tend to be incredibly self-serving. Even the seemingly kindest acts often have an ulterior motive. Narcissa Malfoy is often credited with saving Harrys life by not telling Voldemort about him. The only reason she does this is because she thinks Draco may still be alive, and she is not willing to chance losing her son. While this saved Harry, she ultimately did it for herself and Draco.
Draco, however, is different. When asked to identify Harry, Ron, and Hermione who he clearly knows he lies to the Death Eaters in order to save their lives. Not only is there no reward in this for him, Draco could actually be punished and even be terminated for such a lie. He takes the risk anyway, and this shows a true difference in his character from his family.
What else do you think everyone gets wrong about Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter? Let us know in the comments!
The Real Reason Draco Malfoy Tried To Befriend Harry
There was a time, albeit a short one, when Draco very much wanted Harry to be his friend.
He already knew several children of former Death Eaters before he stepped onto the Hogwarts Express, so he wasnt necessarily in need or want of friends. It was, according to J.K. Rowling, because he wanted to find out whether Harry was secretly a dark wizard that Voldemorts surviving supporters could rally behind. It had long been one of the more persistent theories surrounding Harry, unbeknownst to him, as to how he survived Voldemorts Killing Curse as a baby. It was also a theory that Dracos father Lucius supported.
Unfortunately for Draco, Harry wasnt having it. Harry recognized Draco as the boy from Madam Malkin who insulted Hagrid and voiced that Muggle-borns shouldnt attend Hogwarts. By then Harry had already made a friend in Ron, who Draco insulted for his appearance and familys lack of wealth. After being raised by the uppity Dursleys, Harry recoiled at Dracos snobbery.
It didnt take Draco long to abandon the belief that Harry could possibly be a dark wizard. The rest, as they say, was history.
The Real Reason Draco Malfoy Disliked Harry So Much
Out of all the original characters from the Harry Potter series who appeared in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Draco is the one with the most growth.
Sure, his hatred of Harry ebbed over the years. But it wasnt like they were going to grab coffee and catch up, and their sons friendship certainly complicated things. Add in a complex time travel plot, a mysterious Time Turner, and two fathers whose sons are in danger, and youll have Draco working alongside Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny.
While Draco finally got the redemption fans had hoped for, he was finally able to voice something thataccording to Rowlinghad been part of the reason he treated the trio so horribly over the years: He was envious of what they had.
Draco was jealous in a superficial way: Harry was more popular and admired than him without trying, and he excelled at Quidditch. But Dracos envy extended to the relationship Harry had with Ron and Hermione. Draco mightve started out with bodyguards/henchmen in Crabbe and Goyle, but he wanted something more.
Two lunks who wouldnt know one end of a broomstick from another, Draco told Harry in Cursed Child. Youthe three of youyou shone, you know? You liked each other. You had fun. I envied you those friendships more than anything else.
If fighting Voldemorts illegitimate daughter through time didnt bond them, Draco and Harry mightveat the very leastbetter understood one another.

Amycus is described as being squat and lumpy, with a lopsided leer and a wheezy giggle Alecto is described as a “stocky little woman” and shares her brother’s squatness and laugh. It is said that after Voldemort’s first downfall, they believed that he was gone forever.
In , Alecto and Amycus become “teachers” at Hogwarts, severely disciplining students who oppose Voldemort. Amycus teaches , but as puts it, it becomes just “” in which students are forced to perform the against students who have been assigned to detention. Alecto teaches , which becomes a compulsory subject, and teaches students that are like animals. Draco Came To Hogwarts More Prepared Than Most
Harry Potter included the fateful convergence of Harry, Ron, and Hermione on their very first trip on the Hogwarts Express, but given the series viewpoint of Harry, it wasnt able to showcase the inverse: the students who already knew friends and classmates before they ever set foot on that train.
Draco already knew other young wizards well before he went to Hogwarts thanks to the many connections of his father Lucius. Having grown up after Voldemorts downfall, Lucius would hang with other former Death Eaters who bemoaned how Voldemort failed, some of whom had children Dracos age. Those meetings led Dracos friendships with Theodore Nott and Vincent Crabbe, who would become one of Dracos closestin proximity, at leastfriends and henchmen.
Gregory Goyle, however, became Dracos friend and henchman in the same way that the trio did: a chance meeting on the Hogwarts Express.
Draco Malfoys Sun Sign Gemini
Your sun sign reflects your principal traits that form the basis of your personality. While Draco might not seem like an obvious Gemini, he reflects many of its most important traits.
Geminis tend to see themselves through the eyes of others, using others as a mirror. This is why they are often easy to manipulate and eager to please.
We see these characteristics in Draco with the adult dark wizards that surround him.
Geminis also tend to be naturally charismatic and whip smart, both characteristics that we can associate with Draco. The other members of Slytherin choose to follow Draco, at least partially, as a result of his charisma.
He is also portrayed as intelligent but unfocussed. He does well in his classes, but never excels because he doesnt apply himself.
Dracos need to bully and boss others is a classic sign of low self-esteem. These are common coping mechanisms.
Those born under Gemini can be prone to this as they have a tendency to always compare themselves to others.
Fun fact Tom Felton, the actor who plays Draco in the movies, is an analytical and organized Virgo.

That Infamous Deathly Hallows Moment Wasnt Planned
Chances are you know exactly what that means but well set the scene up for you anyway.
Toward the end of Deathly Hallows Part 2, Voldemort returns the grounds of Hogwarts to reveal to everyone that he killed Harry while Harry, unbeknownst to Voldemort, survived the attack. Having been separated prior, Dracos mom Narcissa called for Draco to come over to herand to the side of the Death Eaters. When he did, Voldemort gave him a very uncomfortable but highly memorable hug.
A couple months after Part 2s release, Felton addressed the hug at DragonCon. According to his recollection, he and Ralph Fiennes filmed around 25 takes of that scene. Out of all of those takes, only one included the hug it was a one-off thing Fiennes did. And as strange as he found the moment, he was even more surprised that it made the cut.
Its really interesting because theres definitely a difference with the audience, how they take it. In England, its considered a very chilling moment, a very sort of, the whole audience goes quiet and they dont know what to say or do. Over here , its hilarious.
He Was More Jealous Of Harry Than He Let On
Specifically, Draco was jealous of Harry. It was easy to miss because Draco didnt often show his emotions, modelling himself on his cold, confident, calculating father, but J.K. Rowling has confirmed that a lot of his enmity towards Harry stemmed from envy. Draco was brought up to believe he was very special, so it jarred with him that Harry was more admired at school than he was. He was, apparently, also very upset that Harry was a better flier than him, flying being one of the only things Draco could rightfully believe he was actually good at.

His Family Used To Do Business With Muggles
It may seem like Draco Malfoys entire persona revolves around hating any wizard who isnt a pure-blood. While that may be true, the Malfoy family wasnt always intolerant of muggles and muggle-born wizards.
While this may come as a surprise, dont give them too much credit.
Before the International Statute of Wizard Secrecy which would eventually hide the wizarding world from muggles, the Malfoy family had relationships with wealthy muggles who helped them acquire many of their artifacts and wealth. The reason the Malfoys did not agree with the Statute of Secrecy is because of their financial connections in the muggle world not their kinds hearts. Even still, it is ironic to learn that the Malfoys built themselves on the very people they claim to hate.

Draco Malfoy Actor Tom Felton Made A Documentary About Harry Potter Fans
Feltons proximity to Harry Potter fandom gave him a unique perspective when he set out to make a documentary about Harry Potter fans.
Were not just talking about the fact that he was in the Harry Potter films, although that does help to an extent. His 2015 BBC documentary looks into the lives of the fans who wait in line to meet him and other actors at conventions, and how the books and films have affected them, which opened his eyes to their experiences along the way.
It was a massive insight for me, going behind the ropes and seeing what people actually do to stand behind a railing at an event, Felton told JustJared in 2015. You dont really think about the three hours it took them to stand there and get the best spot.

Draco’s Wand Says A Lot About His Inner Feelings
As Ollivander says in the series, “the wand chooses the wizard,” and there seems to be a deeper meaning behind Draco’s hawthorn wand.
According to a 2015 essay Rowling , hawthorn wands are “most at home” with a witch or wizard who is conflicted or in a moment of turmoil.
The unicorn hair core of Draco’s wand is also the “most difficult” to turn to the dark arts, per Rowling, which may explain why he couldn’t get himself to kill Dumbledore in his greatest moment of inner turmoil.
The Muggle Prime Minister
The , referred to as the Muggle Prime Minister by wizards, receives a visit from and in the opening chapter of . Using a series of flashbacks, Rowling describes how the Prime Minister is aware of the existence of the wizarding world, through several meetings with Fudge that include his first night as Prime Minister and other occasions during which Fudge informed him of ‘s escape from , of the incident in the World Cup, of importation of dragons and a sphinx for the Triwizard Tournament and finally of the mass break-out from Azkaban . Rowling intended to include the Prime Minister scene in earlier books, but she thought that it could not properly fit until the sixth book.
In the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the Prime Minister recalls his day, during which one of his political opponents had been criticising him and his government for several catastrophes that have recently happened in Britain. Readers discover a little later during the discussion with Fudge, that these catastrophes are, in fact, the doings of Voldemort and his followers. He also discovers that he is protected by an who now works in his office, .

Harry Potter And The Half
Draco is drawn into Death-Eaters’ activities more directly in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Because of Lucius’ arrest and fall from Voldemort’s favour, Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange visit Snape at his home to discuss a dangerous task that Voldemort has assigned Draco. Narcissa, deeply worried that her son will be killed in his attempt to complete it, begs Snape to make an Unbreakable Vow to aid Draco with this task and protect him at all costs, and if Draco fails to complete the mission, he will complete it himself he agrees.
In this book, Draco is, for the first time since being introduced in the series, portrayed as having considerable initiative, ingenuity, and perseverance. However, unlike Harry, who always relies on his friends’ support and help, Draco mostly works alone in the Room of Requirement, refusing to confide in or involve his own circle of friends, whom he treats more as underlings. This, and the realisation of what he is ultimately expected to do, nearly drives him to a nervous breakdown. When Harry walks in on Malfoy crying in Moaning Myrtle‘s bathroom, Draco attempts to cast the Cruciatus Curse. Harry is faster to the draw with an obscure Sectumsempra spell that he learned from the mysterious Half-Blood Prince’s book. The spell cuts deep gashes into Malfoy’s face and chest, resulting in severe blood loss. Snape, alerted by Myrtle’s screams, swiftly arrives and heals Draco’s cuts, then takes him to the hospital wing.
Lily J Potter & James Potter
Harry Potter’s famous July 31st birthday came just over a year before the tragic murder of his parents, Lily and James Potter, at the hands of Voldemort on Halloween night, 1981, both of whom died at the age of 21.
Both born in 1960, sharing a calendar year with the likes of Snape and Lupin, Lily was the older of the two, born at the end of January while James’ birthday helped usher in the springtime two months later.

Rowling later informed fans on the website that her birthday is 19 September.
Jk Rowling: Happy 35th Birthday Draco Malfoy
A clever Harry Potter fan realized that Friday is Draco Malfoys, and curious as to how old the character would be, she reached out to the books author on Twitter. J.K. Rowling clarified that Malfoy turns 35 this year, but she wont be celebrating with him .
Im not invited to the party, mainly because I keep telling girls theyre misguided to fancy him, she tweeted Friday.
But why would Rowling steer ladies away from Malfoy? Perhaps she wants to keep them from his bad Slytherin attitude. In a December 2014 Pottermore passage, she warned fans with crushes on the villian that Malfoy is a person of dubious morality.
I have often had cause to remark on how unnerved I have been by the number of girls who fell for this particular fictional character, Rowling wrote. All this has left me in the unenviable position of pouring cold common sense on ardent readers daydreams, as I told them, rather severely, that Draco was not concealing a heart of gold under all that sneering and prejudice and that no, he and Harry were not destined to end up best friends.
Despite that, lets hope Malfoys day is filled with cake, presents, and whatever else Death Eaters do to celebrate birthdays.

Harry Potters Birthday 30 July 1980
Harry Potters birthday is 30 July and it is one of the first birthdays that we learn in the books.
The Dursleys have retreated to a remote cabin with Harry in tow in order to avoid more letters from Hogwarts. Harry is lying awake alone wishing himself a happy birthday, when Hagrid bursts in and reveals what is really going in.
We hear about Harrys birthday frequently, often at the start of each book to anchor us in terms of where we are in time. His date of birth also, of course, plays a role in the prophecy that cause Voldemort to mark Harry with his lightning scar.
He Constantly Needs The Approval Of Others
A running theme with Draco is definitely his inner conflict. As the series unfolds, it slowly becomes clear that the biggest struggle of all is how Draco feels versus how his family wants him to act. For the Malfoys, family and bloodline is everything. Imagine the strictest household you can think of, multiply it, and there you have Dracos childhood.
In almost every instance where Draco is doing something evil that he doesnt actually want to do, he is doing it to please his father and his family. His constant need for approval almost drives him insane. Dracos seemingly evil nature and mean spirit has less to do with him and more to do with his over-bearing family, who he eventually learns he will never please.
