What Is The Point Of Harry Potter

Don't Miss

The Fantastic Beasts Screenplays

Harry Potter Hogwarts – Mystery How to Earn House Points

Unless you’ve been living under a rock this entire time, you’ve probably heard of the two new Wizarding World movies that have hit Hollywood in the past few years. Led by actor Eddie Redmayne and an all-star ensemble cast, the Fantastic Beasts films tell the story of Newt Scamander, Albus Dumbledore, and the dark battle against Gellert Grindelward in the blackened days before Lord Voldemort entered the scene.

Of course, you can choose to simply watch the continuation of the Wizarding World on-screen but reading the screenplays of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: the Original Screenplay and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald The Original Screenplay;will undoubtedly give you that extra level of depth and insight into the characters.

Daniel Radcliffe Had A Bad Reaction To Green Contacts And Harry’s Glasses

Many fans already know that Daniel Radcliffe couldn’t have Harry’s famous green eyes in the films because he was allergic to the contacts. However, not everyone knows that Harry’s signature glasses also gave poor Radcliffe an issue. The very first pair used was made out of nickel, which cause Radcliffe to have an allergic reaction.

Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the book that started it all , Harry Potter discovers his true identity in the wee hours of his eleventh birthday: he is a wizard, famous in the magical world for having vanquished the evil Lord Voldemort when he was only a baby. This revelation, delivered by a gruff, hairy giant named Hagrid, sets Harry on a fantastical journey of a lifetime.

He meets bosom buddies Ron and Hermione aboard the Hogwarts Express, and is soon sorted with them into Gryffindor: the house of the intrepid and brave. However, Harry also makes plenty of enemies at Hogwarts, most notably the arrogant Draco Malfoy and the nasty potions master, Snape . And from battling a troll on Halloween to his first exhilarating Quidditch match not to mention the novels climax, in which Harry goes up against Voldemort for the second time in his young life theres never a dull moment in the first year of his new adventure.

Sorcerers Stone also perfectly balances exciting action with touching emotion, as Harry finds a true family in Ron and Hermione after years of misery with the Dursleys. Indeed, the books small, moving moments such as Harry being floored by a gift from Rons mother, or Hermiones tearful declaration at the end about books and cleverness are just as magical as the spells themselves.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry and friends return to Hogwarts with a bang the bang of a flying Ford Anglia as it crashes into the Whomping Willow, that is. After being spotted by Muggles and narrowly avoiding expulsion, youd think that the rest of Harrys second year would be smooth sailing in comparison right?

Wrong. When the school caretakers cat is found petrified along with a bone-chilling message that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened, fear and suspicions start to arise and of course, only worsen when students start getting petrified too. Nobody can figure out who the culprit is, only that he refers to himself as the Heir and seems to be on the warpath.

But as our young heroes know well by now, if you want a mystery solved right, you have to do it yourself. Which they do through a combination of Polyjuice potion brewing, mysterious flashbacks provided by a sentient journal, and a truly horrific excursion to see a giant spider called Aragog. The book culminates in a visit to the titular chamber, which lies underneath Hogwarts and contains yet another deadly threat that Harry must face.

But of course, this being an early Potter book, its not all din and danger. Comic relief comes in the form of moronic, egocentric professor Gilderoy Lockhart, and toilet ghost Moaning Myrtle who, in true Rowling fashion, ends up being key to the central plot twist of the story.

But True Love Lasts Always

House points

Love is a strong theme throughout the books; if you love someone completely it can never be undone. Lilys love for Harry granted him protection and Snapes love for Lily shaped his path after her death. True love lasts forever. Just because a person dies doesnt mean our love for them does; a comforting lesson we can take heart in.

Harrys Relationship With Ginny Isnt Built Up

Although it makes sense for Harry to end up with Ginny, especially since it places him as a legitimate member of the Weasley family, their relationship itself is not built up nearly as neatly as it should have been. In the movies, its outright glossed over with Ginny barely being a character, but the books go for the bare minimum.

The love ain’t there.;

Ginny has a crush on Harry, Harry reciprocates, they kiss, they dont get together, they want to date, they wind up apart for a while, and then they get married in the epilogue. Theres no substance to their romance. It isnt built over the course of the series. It just happens at the reader and at Harry.

The Triwizard Tournament Sounds Terribly Boring If You’re A Spectator

The Triwizard Tournament was held during Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as a way to bring together the schools of Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang. There were three challenges for the champions to get through, which were meant to be thrilling.;

But when the spectators came to watch and enjoy the tournament, only one out of the three events was actually worth watching. The first challenge was an exciting fight against a dragon, but the second task took place at the bottom of a lake and the third task was in a secretive maze. The audience must have simply stared at the lake or maze for an hour, waiting for something to happen.;

Youd think for magical wizards they could have come up with some way for spectators to watch and enjoy the tournament.

Heartbreak Is Sometimes Inevitable

Its sad but its true. Just as Harry and Cho, Lavender and Ron, and Lily and Snape showed us, sometimes things dont work out the way wed like them to.

You might suffer a broken heart through unrequited love, or lose those you love most, but the books also show us that life goes on. People recover and forge ahead and even death isnt something to be feared; it is, as Dumbledore so eloquently said, but the next great adventure.

Harry Potter And The Half

Things take a turn for the expository in this penultimate installment, which sees Harry learn all about Voldemorts family and origin story, so to speak. Dumbledore gives Harry these lessons to prepare him for a grand future battle with Voldemort, presumably in the vein of keeping his enemies closer. What Harry doesnt know is that Dumbledore is planning something even bigger a plan that he, Harry, becomes more inexorably entangled in with each passing day.

At the same time, Harry suspects Malfoy to be colluding with Voldemort, and begins obsessively tracking him on the Marauders Map. But each new lead just seems to be a wrong turn, and Harry grows increasingly frustrated with the lack of evidence when he knows that Malfoy is guilty. His only good luck, funnily enough, is in potions class. After receiving a secondhand textbook filled with tips and tricks from the mysterious Half-Blood Prince, Harry shines under the tutelage of their new potions professor Slughorn. Hermione, meanwhile, is jealous of Harrys newfound academic success, and attempts to uncover the Princes identity to prove hes crooked.

Its Okay To Ask For Help

House points

Harry was often loath to ask for help, even when he really needed it. Whether that was working out what a clue meant during the Triwizard Tournament, or tracking down a long-lost diadem, his first reaction was often to try and do things alone.

Borne out of good intentions, this attitude is nonetheless crippling in the right circumstances and luckily, Harry came to realise that although there are some battles you need to fight alone, there are others that you cant. Besides, your friends want to help if they can, and might surprise you when they do Ron speaking Parseltongue, anyone?

The Tale Of The Three Brothers

The strongest encapsulation of the mortality theme in Harry Potter is the story within the story, The Tale of the Three Brothers, which is told in the final Harry Potter book. Three brothers face death and respond in three different ways. Only the one who ultimately accepts death is spared a brutal and humiliating end. And then he greeted Death as an old friend, and went with him gladly, and, equals, they departed this life.

That the boy who lived is also the boy who died is not a paradox. Indeed, Rowlings argument is that only by accepting our inevitable passing can we truly live a life of meaning and purpose.

To fly from death is to relinquish all the things that make life worth living. This is more than just a clever little message buried in a whimsical boy wizard story indeed the resonance of this theme within all human beings may in fact be a huge part of the novels ubiquitous appeal. Harry Potter, you see, has something to say.

James Or Lily Potter Could Have Been Their Own Secret Keepers

The reason Harrys parents were murdered by Lord Voldemort was because he was able to find their hiding place after their Secret Keeper Peter Pettigrew betrayed their location and broke the Fidelius Charm.;

But fans have wondered why James Potter chose;one of his friends to perform the charm;when he could have been his own Secret Keeper?

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it was revealed Bill Weasley and Arthur Weasley became their own Secret Keepers: Bill for Shell Cottage where he lives with his wife Fleur and Arthur for Aunt Muriels home.

Since the most fool-proof form of protection would be if the Secret Keeper stayed in the protected home, why couldnt James or Lily have performed the charm themselves?

The Case Of The Missing Thestrals

When Harry arrives at Hogwarts for his fifth year in The Order of the Phoenix, he realizes that the schools carriages arent drawn by magic, but rather a flock of Thestrals. Luna Lovegood who can also see them then explains that the Thestrals are now visible to him because he witnessed Cedric Diggory die. They can only be seen by people whove seen death, she tells him.

However, some fans have pointed out that since Cedric died during the Triwizard Tournament, it seems like Harry should have been able to see the Thestrals when the carriages transported him to Hogsmeade station at the end of The Goblet of Fire.

But in a 2004 interview at the Edinburgh Book Festival, Rowling maintained that this wasnt an error.

The Movies Dont Even Bother Adapting Spew

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Where Is The Dividing Point?

If youve only watched the movies, you probably have no clue what SPEW is. The Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, SPEW ends up playing an enormous role in Hermiones character arc, especially in the context of Goblet of Fire. This is the first book where she begins to have her ideals challenged, and SPEW paves the path for the rest of her arc.

Hermione’s arc simply isn’t complete without SPEW.;

Through SPEW, Hermione can become a genuine activist along wish coming into her own. As the movies do not adapt this storyline, Hermione loses a massive chunk of her arc. While SPEW doesnt play a particularly large role in later books, it does infer where Hermione will go as a character and is thus critically important to her arc.

Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone

Inciting Event: Harry receives his invitation to Hogwarts Schoolwhich his horrible uncle promptly takes away from him. This event occurs a bit early in the First Act, but its clearly Harrys first brush with the conflict , which is promptly rejected for him by his aunt and uncle.

Hagrids subsequent arrival to escort forcibly Harry to Hogwarts is the turning point in the First Act, which is usually the Inciting Event, but in this instance, is actually the Key Event, in which Harry steps out of his Normal World.

First Plot Point: Harry and the other studentsincluding Ron and Hermionearrive at Hogwarts. This closes the door opened by the Key Event: this is where Harry steps into the adventure world of the Second Act.

First Pinch Point: A dangerous troll invades the schools dungeons, and Harry and Ron bravely face it in order to rescue Hermione. Harry believes the troll was let in by the suspicious Professor Snape, whose subsequent injury Harry believes was received when Snape tried to get past the three-headed dog Fluffy to gain whatever its guarding.

Although the specifics of Harrys conclusions are entirely wrong, this is an ample emphasis of the antagonistic forces power and intent within the conflict. The presence of the troll makes it a nicely big scene that easily turns the plot.

Climactic Moment: Harry kills Quirrell, and Voldemorts spirit flees.

The Quotes That Will Stick With Us Forever

While the plot often takes centre stage, it’s also worth paying attention to the beauty of the writing. So many sections of the books are quotable and relatable to share at all times of life. Here are some of our favourites: “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live”, “But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light,””We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” And then of course the classic that started this whole magical journey off: “You’re a wizard, Harry.”

Not Many Great Characters

Pin on Harry Potter Ideas

While Hufflepuff introduces the readers to some less than stellar characters, there arent really many great ones to make up for it. Tonks is the one exception to that rule, and while she is pretty cool, she doesnt make up for the lack of other great Hufflepuffs. Cedric might be another, but he doesnt really make too much of an impression.

Even if they are terrible people, the other houses offer at least a handful of truly notable individuals each.
