Warner Bros. is planning to release five Fantastic Beasts saga movies. So, assuming The Secrets of Dumbledore performs well at the box office, therell be another two instalments after that. We know that the series will end with a duel between Albus Dumbledore and former BFF-turned-nemesis Gellert Grindelwald in 1945, but everything in between is currently a mystery.

Completion Of The Series

In December 2005, Rowling stated on her web site, “2006 will be the year when I write the final book in the Harry Potter series.” Updates then followed in her online diary chronicling the progress of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with the release date of 21 July 2007. The book itself was finished on 11 January 2007 in the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, where she scrawled a message on the back of a bust of Hermes. It read: “J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room on 11 January 2007.”

Rowling herself has stated that the last chapter of the final book was completed “in something like 1990”. In June 2006, Rowling, on an appearance on the British talk show Richard & Judy, announced that the chapter had been modified as one character “got a reprieve” and two others who previously survived the story had in fact been killed. On 28 March 2007, the cover art for the Bloomsbury Adult and Child versions and the Scholastic version were released.

In September 2012, Rowling mentioned in an interview that she might go back to make a “director’s cut” of two of the existing Harry Potter books.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

Or as its known colloquially, Harry Potter and the Worst Camping Trip Ever. After the events of the previous book culminating in another major characters heartbreaking death Harry vows to personally destroy every one of Voldemorts Horcruxes. These Horcruxes are objects containing pieces of Voldemorts soul, rendering him effectively immortal. Which means that if Harry wants even a chance at killing Voldemort face-to-face, hell need to locate and eliminate the Horcruxes first. Its this daunting prospect that leads to the Worst Camping Trip Ever though of course, its brightened somewhat by the presence of the ever-faithful Ron and Hermione.

To be fair, the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows arent as quotidianly miserable as the events of OotP at least we know the characters are suffering for a greater purpose. But that doesnt stop this from being, as you might expect, the darkest book in the series. From the corrupting influence of a locket that causes Ron to abandon his friends, to the tragic prophecy that Harry uncovers through more of Snapes past memories, this book truly tests the readers tolerance for beloved characters in distress.

My first thoughts: Rowling starts off the series with a lot of mystery–the Dursleys are trying so hard to be ‘normal’, and yet they are hiding a big secret. A GREAT secret in fact. This mystery pulls the reader in right away because we want to know exactly WHO is ‘the boy who lived’ and WHY the Dursleys are trying so hard to be ‘normal’. I also like the name of their street, Privet Drive. All very intriguing right away!

Now, I bet you may be rolling your eyes right now. Of course we know that HP and the Sorcerer’s Stonemust have a great beginning because it is, after all, ‘the extraordinary national bestseller’. But just because a book is a bestseller doesn’t mean that it was written well. I’m curious as to what was JK Rowling’s original beginning to the series.

Can an 8 year old watch Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire? Fans of Harry Potter will love it, but it is certainly recommended to watch the movies in order because as a stand-alone movie The Goblet of Fire could be a little confusing. For these reasons we wouldnt recommend The Goblet of Fire to a child under 10 or one who dislikes long sustained scary moments.
