Traits. Gryffindors founder, Godric Gryffindor The Gryffindor house emphasised the traits of courage as well as daring, nerve, and chivalry, and thus its members were generally regarded as brave, though sometimes to the point of recklessness. Some Gryffindors had also been noted to be short-tempered.

Why Hufflepuff Is The Best House

A Hufflepuffs patience, kindness and reliability make them excellent people. Crucially, Hufflepuffs stayed to fight not because they were battle-hungry like their Gryffindor compatriots but because they felt a sense of duty, J.K Rowling has said. Quite simply, theyre good people who do the right thing.

Results Concerning Human Values

We conduct a similar analysis as above for the Human Values data Figure shows the raw data. Table displays the posterior model probabilities. Note that the second column indicates our confirmatory hypotheses and that our approach can be easily generalized to multiple order restrictions. For example, we predicted that both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw should score higher on the value Achievement than Hufflepuff and Slytherin. Such an order-constrained model is then compared against a null model and an unrestricted model . Our hypotheses for Conformity, Power, and Tradition were strongly supported and received the highest possible support. Howeverand similar to the personality measuresthe variance explained by assuming four distinct Houses differed across values, from 1% to 9.9% . In particular, Figure shows that the proportion of variance explained in each case varied across Human Values, but was generally low: 4.3% , 2.7% , 5.1% , 1% , 9.9% , 1% , 3.4% , 4.6% , 2.8% , 5.6% . The variance explained by the Human Values is slightly lower than the variance explained by the personality measures.

On each line, shows, for different Human Values, the posterior distribution for the proportion of variance explained by assuming four distinct Houses. Note that variance explained differs substantially between, say, Hedonism with 1% and Power with 9.9%.

The colors you use always matter, so keep that in mind if youre creating a crest of your own, whether its a small image to print on your wedding invitations or a business logo. Your choice of color could make all the difference in the message youre sending.

Warner Brothers Changes House Colors

30 best Harry Potter: Hogwarts Houses images on Pinterest ...

Much to the dismay of Harry Potter fans from around the world, the house colors in the movies dont match the description of these colors that you will find in the books. Three of the houses are the same whether you read the stories or see them on the big screen, but Warner Brothers changed Ravenclaws colors from blue and bronze to blue and silver. They also decided to make their mascot a raven instead of an eagle, but they didnt find it necessary to change Gryffindors from a lion to a griffin.

When asked about this decision, the movie studio said it was simply a design decision. They found it to be more pleasing to the eye to use silver. It matched Slytherins colors better. Especially when you see that both Gryffindor and Hufflepuff share a yellow/gold hue in their colors. They also managed to change Hermiones elegant blue dress robes for the yuletide ball from blues to a more prom-like pink dress.

These subtle changes often goes unnoticed, but for the truly dedicated fans that are stickers for detail, it is an outrage. For one thing, it means they cant buy the traditional blue and bronze house colors on items found in theme park gift shops. It also ruins the entire Olympic theory when it comes to the symbolism of the house colors.

Is Slytherin A Bad Place To Live In

Slytherins can be cruel and snide, as Harry Potter can attest. We dont think that being a Slytherin makes you a bad person. Draco, to us, is proof that Slytherin wasnt a breeding ground of evil and Dark wizards. Instead, Draco shows us that wizards are just as flawed and desire the same things as everyone else.

I Cant Wait For Summer

Endless days and no responsibilities, spent with your favorite people? Summer couldn’t come soon enough.

This week, I want to share with you all, one of my favorite poems: “Love after Love” by Derek Walcott.

Love after Love

I read this poem for the first time a few years ago, and now make it a habit to read it at least once a month.

At first sight, one could study this poem as a speech being given to a significant other. This is also something I love about Walcott’s lines: the curious ambiguity. We cannot fully conclude that the narrator is speaking about another, or to another, or having a deep dialogue with themselves.

In spite of it all though, we can conclude that “Love after Love” is about You, me, and every other being.

“Give back your heart to itself, / to the stranger who has loved you / all your life, whom you ignored” . Maybe it is not about the little bits that we try to exemplify everyday needing to correct every fault we see in ourselves, needing to push further, to work harder, to be stronger, to be better…

Instead, maybe it is about taking off the masks and pretenses of who we think we should be, or have to become, and just be. Acknowledge that our existence is enough.

“The time will come / when, with elation / you will greet yourself arriving / at your own door, in your mirror, / and each smile at the other’s welcome” .

So ‘sit, feast on your life.’ Find your way home, and you will not relinquish this love.

The Symbolism Of The House Colors

The next time you read a Harry Potter book or sit down to enjoy one of the movies, pay attention to those house colors. They are much more than an afterthought. These amazing colors foreshadow events in the story, perfectly represent the characters, and help define the courage and strength of each team. Regardless of which theory works for you, we can all agree that J. K. Rowlings knew exactly what she was doing when she first described those Hogwarts house colors in that very first adventure.

The Science Behind The Magic The Relation Of The Harry Potter Sorting Hat Quiz To Personality And Human Values

Lea Jakob, Eduardo Garcia-Garzon, Hannes Jarke, Fabian Dablander The Science Behind the Magic? The Relation of the Harry Potter Sorting Hat Quiz to Personality and Human Values. Collabra: Psychology 1 January 2019 5 : 31. doi:

The Harry Potter series describes the adventures of a boy and his peers in a fictional world at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the series, pupils get appointed to one of four groups at the beginning of their education based on their personality traits. The author of the books has constructed an online questionnaire that allows fans to find out their House affiliation. Crysel, Cook, Schember, and Webster argued that being sorted into a particular Hogwarts House through the Sorting Hat Quiz is related to empirically established personality traits. We replicated their study while improving on sample size, methods, and analysis. Although our results are similar, effect sizes are small overall, which attenuates the claims by Crysel et al. The effect vanishes when restricting the analysis to participants who desired, but were not sorted into a particular House. On a theoretical level, we extend previous research by also analysing the relation of the Hogwarts Houses to Schwartzs Basic Human Values but find only moderate or no relations.

Distinctive traits for each House based on the first three authors readings of the Harry Potter books.

Harry Potter Symbols And Their Magical Meanings

Weâll be the first to acknowledge how problematic J.K. Rowling can be. However, itâs OK if you still love the magic she created with the now-iconic Harry Potter series â the books got many of us through some truly difficult times in our lives. They mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people! This perhaps explains why weâre all so obsessed with Harry Potter symbols. Even the most mundane or inconsequential parts of the world of Harry Potter come with their own hidden meanings. Each wand wood, each house, and each name carries special significance. And thatâs to say nothing of the many, many emblems. You might say the entire franchise has us under its spell .

After all, we arenât just talking about a lovely story here but an alternate universe. Somewhere we can all retreat when we want to break up with the real world. Weâve witnessed world-building before when we read The Chronicles of Narnia, Game of Thrones, and even The Princess Diaries . But none come close to the level of detail found in the magnificent wizarding world of Harry Potter.

For that reason, and many more, Harry Potter symbols deserve a deeper dive. Read on and see how much you know or remember.

What Are The Characteristics Of Hogwarts Houses In Harry Potter

Notable members are Luna Lovegood, Filius Flitwick, and Cho Chang. Ravenclaws ghost, The Grey Lady, is notable in helping Harry in finding the Ravenclaw diadem, and her story may reflect themes of power, betrayal, envy, and pride.

In members like Luna Lovegood, Ravenclaw might be interpreted in the fact that there is knowledge in everything, even in that that might not even exist, or seems impossible to believe.

HUFFLEPUFF is described as the house of the loyal and the fair. The mascot is a badger- the colors are yellow and black.

The founder is Helga Hufflepuff, and the earth is their element. The Hufflepuff ghost is The Fat Friar. Hufflepuffs are seen as loyal, having a good sense of fair play, and are hard-working and kind.

They are, however, slighted by others, and are seen as people who do not fit into the other three houses, or are seen as weak or untalented.

Notable members are Cedric Diggory, Nymphadora Tonks, and Newton Scamander. Hufflepuff might have been used as a way of seeing how other misfits are unjustly seen within society and maybe saying that these supposed oddballs have deeper depths and have their own interests, skill sets, and talents.

SLYTHERIN is described as the house of the ambitious and the cunning. Their device is the serpent, and their colors are green and silver. Its founder is Salazar Slytherin, and their element is water.

They are seen as the worst house in the series and produces the darkest wizards and witches.

Ravenclaw Strengths And Characteristics

Although not all Ravenclaws have the same level of intelligence, all Ravenclaws have the ability to study and gain knowledge.

The Ravenclaw House is distinguished by its curiosity. It has a passion for inquiry, exploration, and learning. Ravenclaws are naturally curious about their environment and will ask questions to expand their understanding.

Creativity: Ravenclaws can be very creative and think outside the box. Ravenclaws inventiveness is evident in their spell-work and interactions with other people. It also means that many Ravenclaws have unique solutions to problems and are creative.

Individualism: Ravenclaws are highly individualistic and will not bow to peer pressure. They can do whatever they want. Luna Lovegood, who wears earrings made of radish-like fruit and is passionately committed to her personality, is an obvious example.

Is It An Obvious Advice

What Each of the Hogwarts Houses Represent

Not really, since its an advice regularly disregarded by many students.

Consider every single thing Harry did .

Now consider every single thing the Marauders did.

Still think its trivial, obvious, useless advice, either literally or metaphorically?

Bonus pedantry: technically, Latin translation is a sleeping dragon must never be tickled, though the difference isnt semantically meaningful.

The literal meaning is obvious, but the message that I take from this is, I think, quite genuinely good advice, and it doesnt seem to have been picked up on. To me, the point is that theres a distinction to be drawn between bravery and stupidity. Theres nothing smart about doing something obviously dangerous, like tickling a sleeping dragon, because its probably gonna work out disadvantageously for you.

Perhaps less philosophically interestingly, it could also simply be a warning against causing trouble unnecessarily, against opening up a can of worms, or stirring up a hornets nest.

To me, assuming the first interpretation, the Muggle parallels would be things like :

  • Dont play with fire
  • The trouble with grabbing a tiger by the tail is that sooner or later you have to let go.

Or my personal favourite:

Which Hogwarts House Did You Get And What Does It Mean

Youve been assigned to a Hogwarts House. This is a great moment in any wizards or witchs life, but there are many questions.

What does it mean for a house to be assigned?

What does this reveal about you? Which are your strengths and which are your weaknesses?

And most importantly, isnt your house the best?

This article examines the major characteristics that make up the Hogwarts Houses: Gryffindor , Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw. This article introduces the main characters associated with each house and explains the strengths and weaknesses of the culture.

Where Does Slytherin Come From

Slytherin is first introduced in the book Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. The school where the book is set, the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, is divided into houses, much like many real-life British public boarding schools. These houses are called Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Gryffindor.

Each house has its own particular personality, and each student gets put into a house by a magical hat called the Sorting Hat. The traits that get you placed into Slytherin are ambition, resourcefulness, determination, and cleverness. An association with villainous characters and elitism has given Slytherin the reputation of being an evil house.

Hogwarts houses, however, no longer signify just a fictional construct in a beloved series. In the real world, sorting people into a given house has become a common way of signifying something about their personalities. Fans put themselves, public figures, and characters from other fictional worlds into Hogwarts houses. Theyre sometimes aided by personality quizzes that can help you figure out which house truly represents your inner self.

Which Harry Potter House Is The Kindest

My guess is that he thinks Hufflepuffs are the regular folks of Harry Potter, who are normally inclined to be kind, work hard, enjoy lifes comforts, and strive for a sort of balanced life. In this way, the Hufflepuff pride movement is populistin the leftist sense. The house is highly egalitarian.

Which Hogwarts House Is The Best

Hogwarts Houses

The answer to this is the one you’re sorted into.

This may seem like a cop-outoh, everyone’s special in their own way! but if you think about it logically, it makes a lot of sense. Each Hogwarts house prizes the traits that their students have. For example, Gryffindors believe that courage is one of the most important traits a human can have, and because of this strive to be brave in everything they do. They prize the trait that their house exemplifies, and therefore they’re almost definitely going to see their own house as the best. This logic follows with the other houses too Hufflepuffs treasure loyalty and are loyal, Ravenclaws care about expanding their own knowledge and wisdom and are wise due to this, and Slytherins value cunning and ambitious and therefore embody these traits. Because of this, you’re almost always inclined to view your own house as the best , and so you should! Be proud of your house and your own strengths and values!
