What Could An New Harry Potter Film Be
When she finished The Deathly Hallows, Rowling was pretty adamant that this was the end for Harry and the Wizarding World and so naturally the same was assumed of the films . Of course, shes since dramatically and repeatedly gone back on her word first with a massive expansion of the mythology with Pottermore, then last year with double-tap of cinematic prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and stage sequel The Cursed Child .
The Cursed Child covers the first few years of Albus Severus time at Hogwarts and has a suitable mix of new adventure and reverence for the original characters pretty much what a film studio would look for in a legacy-quel. Indeed, doing this was rumored when the play opened, with it alleged Warners wanted to use it as a springboard for a Force Awakens-esque reboot of the series, possibly a trilogy adaptation. While these reports were later denied by both studio and author, it would be naive to think at the very least conversations havent happened.
The creator has shown explicitly shes willing to continue the Potter story, which nullifies any sense of impossibility, and shes also given us the obvious source for an future movie. Yet, aside from last years denied report of Warners considering it, all of this is mere speculation, so why is a new film so certain?
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
When Warner Bros decided to turn Rowling’s slim pamphlet into a sprawling multi-movie franchise, it could be seen as a return to the magic or cynical moneymaking sorcery. And thanks to off-screen controversy the Fantastic Beasts series has sputtered like a wonky wand.
But we will say this: the first film is decent. It gives fans and casual viewers a chance to enjoy the fantasy without being stuck in twee boarding school world, and the expanded look at Rowling’s wizarding world comes with delightfully colorful creatures and a dandy retro fantasy vibe.
It’s also really well-cast: Eddie Redmayne is great as Newt Scamander, a big screen hero whose character is defined by gentleness, curiosity and compassion instead of violence and aggression. Katherine Waterston and Ezra Miller provide intriguingly off-kilter support, and Colin Farrell is such a smolderingly seductive baddie it’s a real shame Depp took over. The film was announced in March 2014 as the second instalment in the series. In October 2016, it was revealed that Yates and Rowling would return as director, and screenwriter and co-producer, and Redmayne would be returning to play the lead role of Newt Scamander in all the series’ films. In November 2016, it was confirmed that Johnny Depp will have a starring role in the sequel, reprising his role as Gellert Grindelwald from the first instalment. Later that same month it was also announced that Albus Dumbledore would be appearing in future instalments, albeit with a younger actor for the prequel film series. In April 2017, it was confirmed that Jude Law had been cast as Dumbledore. The film takes place in New York City, Britain, and Paris. Principal photography began on 3 July 2017, at Warner Bros. Tom Felton, Draco Malfoy for all the series fans out there, talked to People about life on the other side of the massive franchise. It turns out he looks back on the experience very fondly. Felton talks to the other young actors that he shared so much time with occasionally. It feels like not that much time has been lost to the stars as they head into the 20-year anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. But, yeah, if Warner Bros. came calling, Felton would be right there with his hair dyed platinum blonde again to give his best as the childhood rival of The Boy Who Lived. The question of an HBO Max TV series has been broached numerous times by both fans and executives at the company. So, it’s more a case of when than if it will happen.
“If you’re asking me will I dye my hair blonde again to be Draco, abso-bloody-lutely. Either . I’ll play Draco’s kid if you really want!” Felton told the outlet. “Any chance to be a Malfoy again would be greatly accepted.” “I do feel if someone else played , I’d be slightly possessive, going, ‘Hang on,’ ” Felton says.
“I was speaking to Rupert , Daniel and Emma separately the other day and , ‘Twenty years, can you imagine that?’ ” he continued. “First of all, they all look the bloody same, literally. Rupert looks exactly the same.”

The Appetite For All Things Harry Potter Is Insatiable
Warner Bros. is planning a new Harry Potter movie based on the West End play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, according to a report in the New York Daily News.
According to the report, sources say that Warner Bros. executives want to complete a movie adaptation of the play as soon as 2020 and want the man who played Harry in eight Harry Potter movies already, Daniel Radcliffe, in the mix.
Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry, a well-placed Hollywood source is quoted as saying in the NY Daily News.
However he has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon and that could be until he hits 40.
Radcliffe didnt rule out a return to his role as Harry when discussing it recently, but, as the source suggested, he doesnt seem to have any interest in doing so anytime soon.
It is a tricky one, he told The Sun recently.
You never want to close a door on anything, especially something that has been so good to me.
At the moment I am definitely not at a stage where I would feel comfortable going back to it, who knows in 10 and 20 years if I would feel differently about that. And I think I have still got a little while for me to be age appropriate for this Harry.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone , the first film in the series that introduced anyone who wasn’t already familiar with Rowling’s incredible book series to the Wizarding World. The franchise would dominate movie theaters for 10 years before its explosive finale with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II in 2011. The final movie also represented the end of the book series, with the epic Deathly Hallows novel having been split it into two films.
But that’s not to say there was no more material left. In 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, an A-to-Z listing of all the magical creatures in the Wizarding World, written by Magizoologist Newt Scamander, was adapted into a film of the same name that became a global box office hit, spawning its own sequel in 2018, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. While its reception was far less positive than its predecessor, that didn’t stop the third entry from going into development – and Fantastic Beasts 3 is already heading for theaters next year.

Would The Harry Potter Cast Return
While recasting the beloved original cast of the Harry Potter franchise would prove a challenging endeavor, the studio might have to for story continuity. The characters are considerably older in the play Harry, Ron and Hermione are in their late 30s when the play takes place. The original three actors of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are all in their early 30s, still a bit too young to convincingly be just a stone’s throw away from 40. However, should the studio decide to adapt Harry Potter and the Cursed Child sometime in the future, they need only wait a few years for their original trio to fit the roles.
Another thing to consider is how Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally cast, which had caused inevitable controversy back in 2016: Hermione Grangers role was cast with a Black actress, which Rowling defended by saying that Hermiones skin color had never been described in detail in the novels. Perhaps Rowling was asserting that anyone could play Hermione so long as she embodied the essence of the character, but if the studio decides to recast the main trio, they should lean into fully recasting every role.

Is A New Harry Potter Movie Trilogy Coming
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child never struggled when it came to ticket sales, but despite the success of the play, J.K. Rowling has said that it will act as the final chapter in Harry Potters journey.
Well, maybe not so fast on that last part. Some recent comments were made by Jim Hill, a theme park historian and journalist with massive contacts at Disney and Universal, that may contradict earlier remarks from the studios and Rowling that Cursed Child would indeed be the final piece of Harrys story on film.
Hill appeared on the Unofficial Universal Orlando Podcast to discuss a myriad of topics regarding Universal Orlando . During the conversation, Hill made mention of the current contract between NBCUniversal and Warner Bros., specifically a clause that allows NBCUniversal the exclusive broadcast rights for all Potter and Fantastic Beasts films from July 1, 2018, forward.
They not only have Potter, they have Fantastic Beasts and, supposedly, if you drill down into the language of the deal, they also have when theyre finally made the trilogy of movies that will be based on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
That is certainly an interesting development, and would allow the actors to get on wit their careers while also passing on the torch to a new group of stars for future films. Whether it happens or not, who knows, but it is certainly worth revisiting once Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them has started to run its course.
Is There A Harry Potter Cast Reunion
HBO Max took the opportunity of the 20-year anniversary of the first Harry Potter film to announce an exciting Harry Potter cast reunion.
They released a trailer made up mostly of old clips from the films, but promising that the original stars, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint would return for a Harry Potter special in the new year.
J.K. Rowling will not be part of the TV special, coming after the author received widespread criticism for controversial comments about the trans community.
The TV special, named Return to Hogwarts, will premiere on January 1st 2022, where the Golden Trio will be joined by American filmmaker Chris Columbus, who also worked on the series, to discuss the films and explore their creation in depth.
The second trailer, debuting on December 7th, revealed that even more stars will be joining the original trio, including Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, James and Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch and many more.
The new footage showed some of these well-loved stars receiving the iconic parchment envelopes, stamped with a red seal, inviting them to come back for the reunion.

Fantastic Beasts 3 Cast
There are a lot of familiar faces in the Fantastic Beasts 3 cast. Unsurprisingly, the movies central quartet is all back in action: Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander, Katherine Waterston as Auror Tina Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Newts No-Maj BFF Jacob Kowalski, and Alison Sudol as Legilimens Queenie Goldstein. Callum Turner also confirmed to Yahoo! Movies that hell be back as Newts older Auror brother Theseus Scamander, while Jude Law is reprising his role as the younger incarnation of Wizarding World mainstay and Hogwarts professor Albus Dumbledore.
The major casualty of The Crimes of Grindelwald was Leta Lestrange, who sacrificed herself to save Newt, Tina, Jacob, Theseus, and more that means were only likely to see Zoë Kravitz in flashback or via magic .
There are also recognizable figures on the dark side of the Fantastic Beasts 3 cast, with Ezra Miller back as troubled Credence Barebone. Wed also be incredibly surprised if Claudia Kim doesnt also come back as Nagini, the Maledictus fated to become Voldemorts snake sidekick ahead of the Harry Potter era.
The biggest change is Grindelwald. Johnny Depp has stepped down from the role following a court battle, and Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as his replacement, while Colin Farrell who many hoped would return to the series was not able to take on the part as he’s committed to filming The Batman. The switch, though, is not something Mikkelsen has talked to Depp about, per The Sunday Times.
