Gryffindor Common Room Fat Lady Potrait

25 Behind The Scenes Secrets From The Harry Potter Movies

I came across another memorable filming location on my walk around the cloisters the hidden passage to the Gryffindor common room. In the film, the fat lady portrait stands guard, requiring the students to recite the password for entry. Fortunately during my visit, the Fat Lady had been removed, however, unfortunately, the luxuries of the Gryffindor common room werent waiting beyond the threshold. It was simply a small open room. Dangit! It was still fun to pretend the painting was there, and feel the energy of stepping into the actors shoes, as they filmed their scenes. I do recall reading about the portrait for the first time as a kid, and just thinking how cool it would be to be walk around the castle. This was the closest Ive been so far, so the nostalgia was buzzing!

Robbie Coltrane As Hagrid

Robbie Coltrane is the actor who played Hagrid in all 8 Harry Potter movies. As he unfortunately does not have magical giant genes, he measures only 6-feet 1-inch tall, a good 2 feet shorter than Hagrid appears. While Coltrane makes an amazing Hagrid , they had to come up with some clever ways to make him look much taller than he actually was.

Other Things To Do In Gloucester

Ill be honest: Gloucester isnt my favourite UK city. I enjoyed the docks area but noticed how the shops and restaurants there had taken business away from the city centre which now looks quite rundown. But there are still a few worthwhile things to do once youve finished with Harry Potter locations at Gloucester Cathedral. These are:

Harry Potter Tour Oxford: Practical Tips

What Did It Cost to Produce Each Harry Potter Movie? How ...
    • Wear comfortable shoes. Oxfords cobbled streets might be beautiful but they can be killers on your feet. You dont want to be the person hobbling around halfway through the day.
    • The colleges have very specific hours when they are open to the public. I have included links to their websites but check before you go. As a rule, theyre more likely to be open in the afternoon, so I would start your Harry Potter walk around Oxford in the afternoon.
    • You do have to pay for entrance to the colleges and the Divinity School and Duke Humphreys Library can only be accessed on a Bodleian tour factor that into your costs.
    • Oxford is an easy day trip from London. If its your first time visiting the city, I would recommend staying at least one night as theres so much to explore.
    • While there is plenty of accommodation dotted around Oxford, you can actually stay in many Oxford University colleges outside of term-time for a real Oxford experience .

The Kiss Was Horrifying And They Thought They Wouldn’t Be Able To Do It

Some of the funniest quotes from the Return To Hogwarts special were about what a terrible experience it was for Rupert and Emma to kiss after years of being friends on the set. Emma, now infamously, called it “horrifying” despite being prepped and made comfortable by director David Yates.

“I was really scared we were never going to get it because we just couldnt take it seriously, she said because the two just could not stop laughing. Rupert followed up saying that he “blacked out” when he had to do it.

In this post, Id like to share my experience visiting Gloucester Cathedral, in particular, the cloisters . Gloucester Cathedral is extremely rich in English history, and continues as a place of worship to this day. Since 2001-2002, tourism around Gloucester Cathedral started booming. No, it wasnt due to a renovation, or new pipe-organ set in place, it was because the Cathedrals cloisters were a backdrop for production on the first two Harry Potter films The Philosphers Stone, and The Chamber of Secrets. There was a third film, can you guess which one? Scroll down to find out!

Bonus: A Harry Potter Filming Location In Norway That Nobody Talks About

Appeared in: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I love Norway, so I was delighted to discover that a small portion of the Half-Blood Prince features the snowy wonderlandy landscapes of this Scandinavian gem. According to a few sources, including this Norweigan newspaper, some crew members came to Norway to film scenes along the Rauma Railway between Oslo and the Fjords region to use as window/background shots for the Hogwarts Express. Specifically, they shot around Bjorli.

If you cant immediately recall this scene, let me help you! Remember Lavenders peak psychotic moment when she walked past Ron and Harrys train carriage and draws a big heart on the glass with her and Rons initials? Super kyuuute. Anyways, those snowy shots outside the window as she does this were shot in Norway.

    The Last Casting Role

The very last person cast for the Harry Potter franchise was Kelly Macdonald. Macdonald plays the ghost of Helena Ravenclaw. Her small role in the film helps Harry find the last tangible Horcrux, Ravenclaw’s diadem, that was needed in order to destroy Voldemort.

Macdonald is also the voice of Merida in Brave and can be seen in No Country For Old Men.

Steven Spielberg Was The Wrong Fit

Where did they film the Great Hall in Harry Potter?

Yeah, you read that right. Producers knew they had a huge potential hit on their hands and asked Spielberg for his ideas on the project. He suggested the series be animated, with Haley Joel Osment providing the voice for Harry, but it was eventually decided Spielberg wasnt the best fit for the project. Rumors as to why have been tossed around was it his lack of interest in a project that wasnt a challenge, or did J.K. Rowling claim creative differences? The world might never know the whole story, but I cant help but think they made the right decision for Harry!
