Visit The House Of Minalima

Harry Potter London Magic Walking Tour and Film Locations

This was one of my very favorite London Harry Potter stops! This amazing Harry Potter Museum dedicated to the art and graphic design behind the props in the movies was incredible! Think about all the props that required graphic design or artwork in the movies like food and cleaning products, newspapers, Harrys acceptance letter from Hogwarts, posters, signs, books, the Mauraders Map etc.

The designs are all done by Mina and Lima, who are incredibly talented artists and designers. At the House of MinaLima you can purchase postcards, books, signed prints, and your very own letter to Hogwarts!

MinaLima also designed some incredibly beautiful interactive classic childrens books, including The Secret Garden, The Little Mermaid, The Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, and Alices Adventures in Wonderland, which you can purchase there, but they are much cheaper online. They have popups, removable items, and beautiful illustrations! Ive added all of these to my personal library and they will be something to pass down to my grandchildren. Absolutely gorgeous!

Casting The Roles Of Harry Ron And Hermione

In 2000, after a seven-month search, lead actor was discovered by producer David Heyman and writer Steve Kloves seated just behind them in a theatre. In Heyman’s own words, “There sitting behind me was this boy with these big blue eyes. It was Dan Radcliffe. I remember my first impressions: He was curious and funny and so energetic. There was real generosity too, and sweetness. But at the same time he was really voracious and with hunger for knowledge of whatever kind.”

Radcliffe had already established himself as an actor in the 1999 television production of in which he played the title role’s childhood years. Heyman persuaded Radcliffe’s parents to allow him to audition for the part of , which involved Radcliffe being filmed. Rowling was enthusiastic after viewing Radcliffe’s filmed test, saying she didn’t think there was a better choice for the part of Harry Potter.

Also in 2000, the then unknown British actors and were selected from thousands of auditioning children to play the roles of and , respectively. Their only previous acting experience was in school plays. Grint was eleven years old and Watson ten at the time they were cast.

The Harry Potter Walking Tour Itinerary

We start our tour of the wizarding world from Bank tube station. The Bank of England may well have been the inspiration for Gringotts Bank, familiar to all Harry Potter fans from the first movie Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone. Harry and Hagrid arrive in London and visit Diagon Alley where Gringotts is described as a snowy white building burnished with bronze doors that goes down as much as it goes up and is staffed by Goblins . Muggles might also spot a deleted scene from The Prisoner of Azkaban, the Knight Bus spins around at Bank interchange and then shoots down Threadneedle Street.

A stones throw away behind the Royal Exchange movie fans may also recognise the final scenes in The Bridget Jones Diaries, . Hidden across the road is the wonderfully evocative Ball Court, you might need a Marauders Map to navigate around these 18th century alley ways, we could so easily be strolling down Diagon or Knockturn Alley. Its also a favourite location of J.K Rowlings best would-be dinner guest, Charles Dickens, he set The Pickwick Papers here at The George and Vulture and tucked down St Michaels Alley, Scrooges Counting House in The Christmas Carol.

We then arrive in the spectacular Leadenhall Market, originally a livestock market dating back to the 14th Century. All fans will recognise the opening scenes from Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone as Harry and Hagrid arrive at the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron, but only if you know where to go.

No 2329 Claremont Square

Harry Potter Studio Tour London review

Tucked away on an unassuming street in Islington lies Claremont Square , the location of Sirius Blacks familial residence, Number 12 Grimmauld Place.

The house eventually is inherited by Harry and used as the headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix.

This square was used for filming on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The muggles that live in the square have long come to accept the mistake in numbering the buildings here, what with 11 and 13 being right next to each other.

Dont feel bad if you cant spot Number 12, its kept under wraps by the Fidelius Charm, meaning only Secret-Keepers can access the building.

What Should You Expect On Harry Potter Tours Outside Of London

While the capital might be the scene for some of the best Harry Potter tours in London, its not the only place to go on a wizardry quest. Hogwarts itself was filmed over several locations that include Christ Church College and Bodleian Library in Oxford. The Potters House is located in Lacock Village, Wiltshire, while Godrics Hollow can be found in Lavenham, Suffolk.

Optional Stop London Zoo

In the book Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, it is a local zoo that Harry is taken to for his cousin Dudleys 11th birthday.

At the zoo, Harry comes face-to-face when the glass separating him from a boa constrictor disappears and the snake spills out onto the floor.

Harry accidentally causes the removal of the glass as well as speaking to the snake in the rare language known as parseltongue .

It is the reptile house at the London Zoo that was used during the filming of this scene. This has led many people to incorrectly assume the Dudley family had taken Harry to London Zoo.

However, when Harry travels to Diagon Alley with Hagrid for the first time, Harry tells him that he has never been to London before, which means the zoo mustve been somewhere else.

The actual tank used for filming currently holds a black mamba, although in the film the snake is said to be a Burmese python, with a strange departure from the original text.

For those who have made the effort to both get to the zoo and pay for entry, you will be rewarded with a small plaque placed inside the Reptile enclosure that commemorates the spot where the actual filming took place.
