Set Designs And Paintings From The Harry Potter Films

See how they created the magnificent sets

Leading out from Diagon Alley you go through to a room where you can see lots of drawings and blueprints of all the set designs, such as Hagrids Hut, the Burrow, Hogsmeade and of course Hogwarts itself.

If you like artwork there is a white gallery with lots of beautiful paintings of the characters, with notable scenes from the books.

If architecture is of interest, here you will also see amazing scaled models of all the buildings featured in the films such as Diagon Alley, Ollivanders Wand Shop, Hogsmeade and classrooms in Hogwarts. The models themselves are highly intricate and fascinating to see.

Dive Into Harry Potters World And Experience All The Special Effects

Besides a magnitude of detailed film sets, youll also have the chance to really dive into the Harry Potter world. With a broomstick. Yes, that is right. The green screen allows the filmmakers to replace the green color with background imagery that is fully computer-generated.

At the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London, you are able to ride a broomstick in front of the green screen and ultimately fly over London just like in the movies. Other special and visual effects that can be seen on the Harry Potter Tour in London include the invisible cloak, the Chamber of Secrets door, and the Whomping Willow. But wait how can you actually see an INVISIBLE cloak? Thats a mystery that gets unveiled in Leavesden.

Anyone for chess?

You need approximately 3 to 7 hours to completely tour and explore Harry Potter Studios.

On the tour, you can relive the nostalgia of the Wizarding World in its realistic sets. If you dare to, venture into the Forbidden Forest, have a grand feat at the Great Hall, learn about Mandrakes in Professor Sprout’s Greenhouse and open an account with Gringotts with the help of goblins. Gringotts Wizarding Bank & Vault

  • Suggested time: 20-30 minutes

Another new exhibit since my first visit in 2012, the Gringotts Wizarding Bank sets are mind-blowingly ornate. Youll walk through the main bank entrance hall and into the tunnels and vaults underneath. Its easy to spend a lot of time here looking for the Golden Snitch and other treasures. Just keep an eye out for dragons!

Pro-Tip: The Lestrange Vault is by far the hardest Golden Snitch to find. Children may get really frustrated at this one, so you might want to skip it.

Option : Getting There By Tour Operator

As you might expect, there are a large number of tour operators offering their services to get you safely to the studios from central London Most of the available options bundle an entrance ticket with a bus transfer from various central London locations.

Weve shopped around and we think the best selection of options can currently be found on Viator.

  • The cost of a return train ticket from wherever you are in London to Watford Junction. You can use the National Rail website to find this out.
  • The cost of a journey on the shuttle bus .

Arriving At Warner Bros Studio Tour London

J.K. Rowling quote

If coming by bus, it will take you to just a hundred metres or so from the entrance, and then you are left to walk inside independently.

There are now more queues for security if you didn’t get your tickets delivered to your home address, you will need to pick them up from the ticket machines and a box office outside, you will need to queue for this.

You will then need to queue to go through security which includes a bag check and personal scan. If you are going on an organised tour, your arrival time will allow you about twenty minutes to queue, ready for your pre-booked entry time into the Studio itself.

Ask Lots Of Questions

London Trip, Part 2: The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour

The curators are there to help, so if you have any questions, ask them! Some of the curators might actually surprise you with their encyclopedic Harry Potter knowledge.

For example, a gentleman we spoke to in the wand shop area told us he had worked on the actual set during filming. He had plenty of stories to share and was able to explain the origin of every character name we threw at him.

Tremendous!

Take Note Of The Fine Details

Study the exhibits! Props, scenery and equipment are still daubed in scribbles and the level of care and attention that has gone into everything is quite staggering. From handwritten labels on bottles of potions, to clever and complicated animatronics its all really wonderful to see it in person.

One more thing look out for the conceptual artwork adorning the walls and galleries that inspired the design and conception of scenes and aspects of the films. Theyre a really lovely addition to the tour.
