The Jmu 4 Kids Camp Difference: The Counselors The Price & More

The camp counselors and staff for JMU 4 Kids include guidance counselors, specialists in the arts, lifeguards, nurses, coaches, gamers, technology teachers, and food tent workers. Urschel has known a lot of the employees for years, and many are former campers. All counselors undergo a background check, and the counselor to camper ratio is approximately 1:7.

Parents can be reassured that all of their summer camps operate under a permit from the Albany County Health Department, and are inspected at least twice during each summer. And, believe it or not, JMU 4 Kids has not changed their price since opening in 2005, so you know you’re getting a great deal.

Summer Camp At Adventure Science Center

We are so excited for another summer of Camp at Adventure Science Center! From habitats and biomes to the far reaches of space, we are so ready for your children to experience a week of hands-on, STEAM-focused learning while making new friends and having a BLAST! Summer Camp sessions are for children ages K-6th grade. Campers must be 5 years old and have had at least one year of school to attend summer camp. Campers should be registered by the grade level they will be entering in the Fall of 2022. Camp groups will be limited to 20 campers.

Move: Try Your Hand At Quidditch

To get moving this week, why not try a game of Quidditch. This game was the focus of the early books. It’s a mix of elements from rugby, dodgeball, and tag. I like that it’s a mixed gender sport with a wee bit of contact. For a “real” quidditch game, your’ll need 14 people. But in COVID times, you can simply get the kids running around tossing balls while they try to stay on “brooms” — or sticks. This backyard version is a good place to start.

The Potterhead Fiesta is a chance for Harry Potter enthusiasts to work on their reading and writing skills while engaging in fun, creative activities and discussing their favourite characters, locations, and spells!

Areas of Focus | Students will get to:

• Read and discuss various story elements
• Submit written responses to reading comprehension questions

Visit: Warner Bros Studios Tour London

One of our all-time favorite travel experiences was our trip to the Warner Bros. Studios in London. We took the full day to soak in the experience at this cool attraction outside of London in Leavesden in southeastern England. We learned about some of the magic that went into the movies. It’s not a theme park, it’s a celebration of movie magic that offers behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Harry Potter films. I know we can’t get to Europe right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be a part of the magic of Harry Potter from home.

This summer kids can learn how the magic was brought to life on screen without leaving the house. From set design to camera angles, budding creators can learn from Harry Potter’s team at home here.

Brandywine School of Wizardry hosts half day and full day wizarding camps. * Please check the listings above or contact us for specific location information.

Full day programs run from 9am-3pm. Half day programs run from 9am-noon. Before/after care available in Chester Springs and Westtown.

We base our activities on the “classes,” events, and activities similar those in the Harry Potter stories.

Prior to the camp, students receive an “owler” in the mail inviting them to their first day of term, along with secret passwords to know each day to gain points for their houses.

Each week is unique based on a new theme. For example, last summers themes focused on the new wizarding schools that J.K. Rowling recently debuted. Each theme involves a mystery or ultimate effort that the group in engaged in to solve or resolve! Many of each weeks particular lessons/activities are geared toward that week’s mystery or theme. The “classes” we teach include but are not limited to the following –

Activities outside of classes include the following –

The sorting! First years are sorted into their houses.

We teach and play Quidditch.

Mystery related activities

Earning galleons to shop at Honeydukes, Zonkos, and 3 Broomsticks

Earning house points — points are tallied throughout the year from all programs.

Sure, the movies are amazing, but let’s not forget all the magic started with books. The first Harry Potter book was originally published on June 26, 1997. Since then it’s sold more than 120 million copies to date. You could get the books one by one, but I recommend getting all seven books. Get the boxed set here.

To inspire your little readers, encourage them to join the Scholastic Harry Potter Book club. The website provides parents who want to organize a book club with access to all the tools they need to host a Harry Potter Reading Club and celebrate the joy of reading.

Mercers Wizarding Academysummer Camp 2022

This camp is for campers ages 7-12. Camper will be divided into four separate groups, or houses, each week. For our returning campers, the Wizarding Sorting Hat will re-sort all campers into new houses for 2022. Wizard dress is highly encouraged.

For safety, there will be limited interactivity between groups throughout the week. All counselors will be required to wear face masks, and campers are encouraged to do so.

The Mercer Museum and Fonthill annually welcome visitors from all 50 states.

All the concrete used to construct Fonthill was mixed by hand!

Henry Mercer was 51 when he began building the first of his three concrete structures, his home Fonthill, 1908-1910.

In addition to installing his own Arts and Crafts tiles in Fonthill, Henry Mercer incorporated Persian, Chinese, Spanish and Dutch tiles.

Among the oldest artifacts in the Mercer Museum are a 2,000 year old whale oil lamp and Native American implements dating to 6,000-8,000 BC.

There are 44 rooms in Fonthill including 10 bathrooms, 5 bedrooms and 18 fireplaces.

Every year, witches and wizards younger than 11 are invited to a week-long summer camp. Here, they are able to socialize with their peers before their Hogwarts years, learn from current student counselors, and generally revel in their magic in a safe and caring environment. Im Roxy Fliberton, one of the longest-serving counselors of this regional camp, here to report on the first day of our July session. Throughout the week, other counselors will submit their own reports .

The Moss is once again transforming to Mogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Attending students will have a week of Harry Potter themed learning and experiences. Every day will bring a variety of classes covering the topics of herbology, potions and more! Crafts, House games, scavenger hunts and more are in store for this magical summer adventure!

All materials will be provided. Participants must be able to climb stairs, follow instruction, and work independently. Some activities will be outside and some will be in rooms without air conditioning please be sure to dress appropriately and to describe any sensitivities, allergies, and other considerations in the attached registration material. Supervision is not provided before or after the session times.
