Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will premiere Jan. 1 on HBO Max, right as the clock strikes midnight and the new year begins. To watch it, you’ll need an HBO Max subscription. Those go for $15 a month. A less expensive, ad-supported tier is now available, though it’s only $5 cheaper, and you won’t be able to stream the newest movies. My colleague Joan E. The special will also air on TBS and Cartoon Network in spring 2022, just before the theatrical release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

What Is The Plot Of Fantastic Beasts 3
The Fantastic Beasts franchise has been leading up to the climactic battle between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald, a duel that will be talked about for ages to come. But so far, Dumbledore has stayed out of the conflict, due to the blood pact that prevents him from facing Grindelwald in direct combat. Fantastic Beasts 3 will see that impasse tested as Grindelwald gets more powerful, forcing Dumbledore to take drastic steps.
While that’s building up, the main part of the story will involve Dumbledore sending Newt and his friends on a mission that pits them against Grindelwald’s army. This mission will take them around the world and bring Newt face to face with dangerous forces, powerful wizards and witches, and of course, some more fantastic beasts.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for the movie:
“Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwaldâs growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”
Would The Harry Potter Cast Return
While recasting the beloved original cast of the Harry Potter franchise would prove a challenging endeavor, the studio might have to for story continuity. The characters are considerably older in the play Harry, Ron, and Hermione are in their late 30s when the play takes place. The original three actors of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are all in their early 30s, still a bit too young to convincingly be just a stone’s throw away from 40. However, should the studio decide to adapt Harry Potter and the Cursed Child sometime in the future, they need only wait a few years for their original trio to fit the roles.

Another thing to consider is how Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally cast, which had caused inevitable controversy back in 2016: Hermione Grangers role was cast with a Black actress, which Rowling defended by saying that Hermiones skin color had never been described in detail in the novels. Perhaps Rowling was asserting that anyone could play Hermione so long as she embodied the essence of the character, but if the studio decides to recast the main trio, they should lean into fully recasting every role.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts Uk Release Date
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will be released on HBO Max on New Years Day 2022.
In exciting news, the reunion special will be available to watch in the UK on the same day, with Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts becoming available to watch on Sky Max and streaming service NOW from 1st January 2022.
It comes in the wake of the reunion special for the Friends cast, which was also released on HBO Max earlier this year.

Sky and NOW will also air Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses on 29th December 2021, which will see Wizarding World fans have their Harry Potter knowledge put to the test as they fight to be named House Cup Champion.
In addition to its release on 1st January 2021, the reunion special will also air in the US on TBS and Cartoon Network in spring 2022 in the run-up to the theatrical release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
A press release confirming the special revealed that it will “tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time”.

Is There A New Harry Potter Movie In 2022
The simple answer is no, there are no new Harry Potter movies in 2022. Nevertheless, there are still movies that take place in the Wizarding World that have been released this year. A few months ago, the third Fantastic Beasts movie, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, came out in theaters with little fanfare, something that may have contributed to the film not succeeding at the box office.
If the Fantastic Beasts series of movies dont scratch your itch for more Harry Potter, there was an HBO Max special that you can also check out, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. This is for fans of the original Harry Potter movies who want to see a reunion of the cast, where they talk stories about filming the movies, and what the franchise means to them personally.
Despite releasing two Wizarding World projects in 2022, the franchises future is certainly up in the air. There are supposed to be two more Fantastic Beasts movies, but given that this years movie was unsuccessful, their release isnt necessarily a safe bet anymore.

Harry Potter is one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. It has grossed over $8.5 billion worldwide with each film grossing around $500 million. The series has been in production since 2000 and the latest installment, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, hit theaters this summer. Given the success of the Harry Potter franchise, its not surprising that there have been rumors about a cursed child movie. It will be coming in august 2022.
There are many reasons why this is unlikely to happen. The first is that Rowling has said she would never write a sequel to Harry Potter and so any movie would have to be based on an entirely different story. Another reason is that Warner Bros doesnt own the rights to make a movie based on Cursed Child as they licensed them out to play in theaters only.
The most likely scenario is that Cursed Child will be made into a TV series instead of a movie, which wont be able to follow all the plot points from the original book because it ends with Harry Potter and Ginny Weasleys wedding.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets
The smash hit follow-up Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secretspicks up with The Boy Who Lived, Harry Potter, as he embarks on his second year at the wondrous Hogwarts, after being warned by house-elf Dobby that its far too dangerous for him to return to the magical school. Deciding to ignore his advice, Harry and his pals Ron and Hermione quickly realize that something is amiss when strange and awful occurrences befall the students and faculty of Hogwarts. They ultimately discover that the Heir of Salazar Slytherin has opened the Chamber of Secrets and unleashed a monster that petrifies the schools denizens.
The installment features the final appearance of Richard Harris as the beloved Professor Dumbledore, who passed away the year of its release. Kenneth Branagh joins the franchise as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Gilderoy Lockhart, while Jason Issacs makes his first appearance as the ominous Lucius Malfoy and the character of Tom Riddle is introduced.

Will There Also Be A Harry Potter Reboot
Along with a Hogwarts letter, many fans have been eagerly awaiting a revival of the fantasy franchise for quite some time. However, it seems the retrospective special is the only project currently in the works. While rumors swirled about a scripted show earlier this year, HBO Max denied having a Harry Potter series in development at the time.
Even if a reboot makes its way to screens someday, its safe to say thered be some casting shakeups. Many of the actors, including Radcliffe, have previously said theyd prefer not to reprise their exact roles in a reboot.
I would probably want to go with Sirius or Lupin, Radcliffe saidon an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2021. Those were always the two characters that I was like, Theyre great.’
Could Harry Potter & The Cursed Child Happen
While JK Rowling and Warner Bros. have both denied that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would ever be adapted for the big screen in the past, Kilar’s remarks rekindled old rumors. There are a great many avenues a future Potter project could take, including a series about the Marauders or Harry’s career as an Auror. Adapting the play to a movie would open the content to Potterheads who weren’t able to see the play. But taking into account that the play is shown in two parts because of its length, many argue that a movie version of Harry Potter in the Cursed Child wouldn’t work, and it might be better suited to a TV show format.
