Why Is Harry Potter So Special

Don't Miss

Some Of The Most Expensive Costumes To Make Were The Hogwarts Uniforms

Why was Harry Potter so successful?

Since they included silk ties and wool sweaters, the Hogwarts uniforms were some of the most expensive costumes in the series to make.

“I never wanted to use anything but the most perfect material,” she previously told Insider. “The ties are in silk, we used wool , we used a very expensive material for the gowns.”

But Temime said these looks were worth the investment since “Harry Potter” film shoots could last a while and cheaper materials “would have looked terrible after one month.”

The Breadth Of Imagination

Not a stone left unturned, the wizarding world is a fully-formed alternative that at once feels far removed from life as we know it, but still familiar and completely plausible. It’s Rowling’s ability to shape and invent a wizarding parallel for even the most mundane of tasks that contributes to the overall magnificence. It’s also the unknown. There are things we are yet to find out, but that’s what Pottermore is for, right?

What Are Some Other Secrets To The Series Success

A post shared by Harry Potter Film on May 14, 2019 at 11:59am PDT

According to Hank Green, the author of the 2018 novel An Absolutely Remarkable Thing and 1/2 of the Vlogbrothers channel on Youtube, Harry Potter is popular because of its relationships. Harry and his friends give readers the heavy, strong and close relationships that all human beings crave. Though Harrys story appeals to children, its impact on adults lies too in these relationships.

According to Green, many adults long for these simple, unquestioned, childish relationships and if they cant find them in real life, feel fulfilled by seeing them in the Harry Potter series. Harrys strength lies in friends, love, community. That message resonates with a lot of fans of all ages.

Harry Potter And The Half

In the sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry enters a tumultuous puberty that, Rowling says, is based on her and her younger sister’s own difficult teenage years. Rowling also made an intimate statement about Harry’s personal life: “Because of the demands of the adventure that Harry is following, he has had less sexual experience than boys of his age might have had.” This inexperience with romance was a factor in Harry’s failed relationship with Cho. Now his thoughts concern Ginny, and a vital plot point in the last chapter includes Harry ending their budding romance to protect her from Voldemort.

This book also focuses on the mysterious activities of Harry’s rival Draco Malfoy. Voldemort has coerced a frightened Malfoy into attempting to kill Dumbledore. During a duel in Moaning Myrtle‘s bathroom, Harry uses the Half-Blood Prince’s spell, Sectumsempra, on Malfoy, who suffers near-fatal injuries as a result. Harry is horrified by what he has done and also comes to feel sympathy for Draco, after learning he was forced to do Voldemort’s bidding under the threat of his and his parents’ deaths.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

The Reason Why Harry Potter So Popular

In the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Rowling pits Harry against Tom Riddle, Lord Voldemort’s “memory” within a secret diary which has possessed Ron’s younger sister Ginny. When Muggle-born students are suddenly being Petrified, many suspect that Harry may be behind the attacks, further alienating him from his peers. Furthermore, Harry begins to doubt his worthiness for House of Gryffindor, particularly considering he discovers he shares Lord Voldemort’s ability to communicate with snakes via Parseltongue. In the climax, Ginny disappears. To rescue her, Harry battles Riddle and the monster he controls that is hidden in the Chamber of Secrets. To defeat the monster, Harry summons the Sword of Godric Gryffindor from the Sorting Hat supplied by Dumbledore’s pet phoenix, Fawkes. In doing so, Dumbledore later restores Harry’s self-esteem by explaining that that feat is clear proof of his worthiness of his present house.

Fascination Of Fabulous Beasts

The last point I would like to mention is the fascination of fantastic beasts. Many of the fabulous beasts in Harry Potter stories have their models in classical mythology or in old legends and fairy tales.59

The most fascinating beast is the unicorn. It is a magical creature which looks like a horse with a horn on the forehead. Unicorns are accepted as noble and most beautiful magical creatures. They represent innocence and cleanliness ,the unicorns are also a symbol of energy.60 Their blood has much power. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher`s Stone the blood of unicorns helps to save Lord Voldemort`s life. The counterpart of unicorns are centaurs. Centaurs are hybrids of human beings and horses. Harry meet them first in the Forbidden Forest. They are astrologers and believe in fate. In many legends centaurs are known as voluptuous, wild and violent.61 But in this fantastic story they are accepted as wise and fair. Furthermore there are dragons and monsters which make the novel so fascinating.

But There Was A Secret Film

Design firm MinaLima, which created fake newspapers for many of the films, hid a secret character in the magical periodicals. Known as the Ginger Witch, this elusive lady is a criminal whose escapades span decades.

First appearing in “Prisoner of Azkaban,” you’ll also spot her in the “Fantastic Beasts” movies.

Why The Harry Potter Books Are So Influential All Around The World

As Robinson Meyer reported yesterday at the Atlantic, to a question that went viral on the social media site over the summer: What books have stayed with you? J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter series topped the list of most-mentioned books in Italy, the Philippines, Brazil, India and France and came in at No. 3 in Mexico.

I adore the Harry Potter series and, in fact, spent the first part of my holiday break last winter marathoning and live-tweeting all seven books in a row. But I am fascinated by their persistence, in part because of how much they improved as Rowling continued to write them: the characterization gets deeper, the ideas more sophisticated, and Rowlings prose improves dramatically from the early awkwardness of Sorcerers Stone to the occasional passages of Deathly Hallows that achieve a real lyric effect.

Certainly I think one reason Rowlings novels have a strong international audience is that she makes a studied effort to have the Harry Potter novels be multicultural and multinational, even if those details come in at the margins of the novel, rather than at the center. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger may all be white Brits, but their friends at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry include Dean Thomas, who is black, and Padma and Parvati Patil, who are British students of South Asian origin.

Rowling Planned In Advance Who Would Meet A Grim Fate In The Series But She Decided To Spare One Character’s Life At The Last Minute

Why is Harry Potter SO popular? | Harry Potter

Character deaths are one of the narrative elements that Rowling plotted in advance.

Originally, she planned for Ron’s dad, Arthur Weasley, to meet a grim fate in “Order of the Phoenix” but she changed her mind.

“I think part of the reason for that is there were very few good fathers in the book,” she said in an interview with “Today” in 2007. “In fact, you could make a very good case for Arthur Weasley being the only good father in the whole series.”

Magic Aside The Values Taught Are 100 Per Cent Human

It’s wonder might be in the magic, but the values that the book instill knuckles down to intrinsically human qualities. There’s bravery on multiple scales, from facing bogarts to killing Voldemort, there’s loyalty – Snape’s actions are the very definition of the word – and the plot focuses closely on the importance of trusting both your own instincts and those in your inner circle.

Why Is Harry Potter So Popular With Adults

Some universities even offer Harry Potter-based courses, where the series is academically discussed and analyzed. The first reason that many adults like the series is that many people simply grew up with the series. The series is nostalgic for many adults, bringing back memories of when they were kids.

Why Is Harry Potter So Popular Even After All These Years

The Harry Potter franchise was first released almost a quarter of a century ago and by the time the last movie was released, the series became so popular that the posters for the final movie didnt even feature the name of the movie. But how is the franchise still so popular, almost ten years after the release of the final movie of the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2?

The answer to this question actually involves a lot of different factors, but to put it simply, the great writing and filmmaking amassed a great number of fans that still love the series since it was such a big part of their childhoods.

This is quite an interesting topic and there are many different things to consider while trying to find an answer to this question. From the good writing and amazing film interpretation, there are many different elements contributing to the massive success of the franchise. If you want a detailed analysis of what contributed to the fame of the series keep reading.

The Hidden Plot Secrets

Is Harry Potter really all that Special?

Throughout the books there are several plot spoilers disguised as dismissible inclusions that seem to just help move the story on, not reveal major future revelations. Think the Weasley twins throwing snowballs at Quirrel’s head – we now know that that would have been directly at Voldemort’s face. Or one of our particular favourites, Trelawney’s 13 seats at the table theory. In Prisoner of Azkaban, the divination professor refuses to dine with Dumbledore and guests, declaring: “If I join the table, we shall be thirteen! Nothing could be more unlucky! Never forget that when 13 dine together, the first to rise will be the first to die!” In the Order of the Phoenix, when at Grimauld Place, 13 are dining with Sirius being the first to stand. Sob, sob.

Believe In Imagination & Yourself

Harry Potter also taught me how to use my imagination and believe in the impossible. If I can believe in a world where there are witches and wizards fighting an evil lord, and goblins guarding a bank that is built with an extravagant cart system guarding billions of wizard dollars, then why isnt it possible for me to believe in myself and my dreams?

Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real? Dumbledore

Why Is Harry Potter So Addictive

The story was written in a way that allowed anyone to immerse themselves into the Harry Potter universe and imagine themselves as a part of the story.

The involvement in the story was amplified even more once Pottermore was created. The website allowed the fans to get even deeper into the universe by allowing them to get sorted into the Hogwarts house, to get their own Patronus, and even their own wands.

Most of the fans are extremely involved with the universe and that in combination with J. K. Rowlings constant additions to the franchise, whether it is through her interviews or her overactive Twitter account.

This intervenes with how the franchise and the fandom surrounding it normally coexist. Usually, the fandom starts with few fans and the number grows as the franchise grows bigger, but once the franchise comes to closure the fandom will slowly die out due to the lack of content.

A great example of how content affects the life of a fandom and the fans engagement is the Star Wars franchise that got revived after years of stagnation once the sequel trilogy was announced.

Because there is a new spin-off series containing 5 movies that are currently being released and J. K. Rowling constantly adds new information about different characters and what happened to them after the series closure the fans had a constant stream of information and content which allowed them to stay invested in the franchise.

Harry Potters Us Publication Made It A Bonafide Phenomenon

Harry Potter did fine when it first emerged in the UK 20 years ago, winning a Smarties Award and garnering respectable sales for its publisher, Bloomsbury. But it only started to approach phenomenon levels when Scholastic bought the US publication rights for an astonishing $105,000, about 10 times more than the average foreign rights sale at the time.

The first Harry Potter book wasnt perfect, but it was magic

Arthur Levine, the Scholastic editor who acquired the books, had an excellent eye for British books that would work in the US, having already acquired the US rights to Redwall and His Dark Materials. But even he didnt know that Harry Potter would grow as big as it did. He just knew that he loved it and wanted to publish it. Scholastic President Barbara Marcus Barbara Marcus kept saying do you love it? and Arthur said yes, so we went for it, a Scholastic spokesperson recalled in 2002. I would have been willing to go further than that if I had to,” Levine said in 2007.

The $105,000 sale granted Harry Potter two things: a built-in publicity hook, and a big budget.

The hook came from the press: Newspapers featured articles about the little English book that had garnered such a huge sale. Reviewers wanted to know what kind of book would justify that kind of money. It was a curiosity, and as such, it was a story.

Magical Abilities And Skills

Why Fleur Delacour Performed So Badly in the Triwizard Tournament – Harry Potter Explained

Throughout the series, Harry Potter is described as a gifted wizard apprentice. He has a particular talent for flying, which manifests itself in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone the first time he tries it, and gets him a place on a Quidditch team one year before the normal minimum joining age. He captains it in his sixth year. In his fourth year , Harry is able to confront a dragon on his broomstick.

Harry is also gifted in Defence Against the Dark Arts, in which he becomes proficient due to his repeated encounters with Voldemort and various monsters. In his third year, Harry becomes able to cast the very advanced Patronus Charm, and by his fifth year he has become so talented at the subject that he is able to teach his fellow students in Dumbledore’s Army, some even older than him how to defend themselves against Dark Magic. At the end of that year, he achieves an ‘Outstanding’ Defence Against the Dark Arts O.W.L., something that not even Hermione achieved. He is a skilled duellist, the only one of the six Dumbledore’s Army members to be neither injured nor incapacitated during the battle with Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He also fends off numerous Death Eaters during his flight to the Burrow at the beginning of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Bravery Comes In Many Forms

Harry had to summon up all his courage when he sought out Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest, but that wasnt the only kind of bravery we saw throughout the books.

Whether you stand up to your friends because theyre breaking the rules, like Neville did, or take a leaf out of Hermiones book and fight for what you believe in , these were all demonstrations of courage and fortitude.

Day 1: 7 Reasons Why I Love Harry Potter

October 29, 2017 by

If you know me well, you know that I am obsessed with Harry Potter. Its one of the only series of books that has survived the many purges Ive done on my stuff, and its the only series of books that can continue to capture my heart even though Ive read them countless times.

Ryan and I had the chance to go to Harry Potter World in Universal Studios in Japan this past spring and it was easily one of the best days of my life. If I had the disposable income to buy everything there, I probably would have, but alas, I left only with a Hogwarts shirt and the taste of butterbeer in my mouth.

When I re-read the series again this past year, I contemplated why I love the books so much. Is it the characters? The writing? The escapism? The lessons I learn time and time again? All of the above?

Heres what Ive come up with:

The Magical Plants In The Series All Come From A Real

At a glance, plant names like “Mugwort” and “toadflax” sound like words pulled from Rowling’s boundless imagination. But these flora actually exist in the Muggle world.

As the author explained in a 2003 interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes,” the plants in the series come from a compendium called “The Complete Herbal” by English botanist and herbalist Nicholas Culpeper.

Sybill Trelawney’s First Prophecy

Who do you ship with Harry Potter? Why?

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is it revealed that when Sybill Trelawney was being interviewed for her job at Hogwarts, she made a prophecy:

The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches… born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies… and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not… and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives… the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies…

In the movies, the prophecy is similar, but slightly different:

The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches… and the Dark Lord shall mark him as his equal but he shall have power the Dark Lord knows not… for neither can live while the other survives…

Combined with the fact that Harry is the “Boy Who Lived”, all of the characters who are aware of the prophecy understand that it refers to Harry, making him even more important: the universe says he’s important, after all!

The prophecy could have also been referring to Neville Longbottom, who was born within days of Harry and whose parents had also defied Voldemort on three occasions. However, after hearing the prophecy himself Voldemort chose to attack the Potters because Harry was a half-blood, just like Voldemort was . By making that decision, Voldemort marked Harry as his equal, completing the prophecy’s description of the child.
