The Chemistry Between The Two Of You Is Fantastic Did You Always Know Actor Daryl Mccormack Was Going To Play Leo Grande And How Did You Nurture That Connection With Him
No, we didn’t know. In fact, he came on quite late. We had lots of ups and downs with casting, and when I met Daryl for the first time, I thought, This young man’s so thoughtful. He just really thought about Leo so hard and you could tell that he was so engaged with him and I knew that was essential. I could also tell that he was quite at ease with his own body and his height. Actually, his height was part of it because Nancy’s been a teacher all her life. She stood up, and everyone’s looked up to her for years and years. It’s time for her to look up. It was just a simple physiological thing. But it was one of the things that persuaded me that he was right, and luckily everyone else just thought he was great. We were so lucky to find him.
Good Luck to You, Leo Grande
I think as well it’s to do with timing. Daryl had exactly what he needed to play Leo at that moment in time. It hit him right at the right moment. And Nancy hit me at the right moment. I might not have been able to play Nancy five years ago. Even though I’ve had an awful lot more experience than Daryl, it’s timing of story and character and it’s very interesting all of that. Mysterious in a way.

That said, Thompson had also been busy with her Nanny McPhee movies at that time that the actress couldnt really stay long on the Harry Potter set. Fortunately, production was moving along efficiently, and Thompson only had to stick around for two days.
They were very quick, the actress remarked. I just had do a bit of waving of a wand and a bit of ‘ooooo-ing’ over dead people, because of course they just had to fit absolutely everyone in.
Several guest actors did make an appearance in the Harry Potter films and Thompson was certainly thrilled to catch up with a lot of them. It was incredible to see everyone and just sort of quickly say hello and goodbye, she even remarked. In 1999, casting began for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the film adaptation of British author J. K. Rowling‘s best-selling . Casting agents found Watson through her Oxford theatre teacher, and producers were impressed by her confidence. After eight auditions, producer David Heyman told Watson and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast in the roles of the school friends Hermione Granger, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, respectively. Rowling supported Watson from her first screen test.
In 2004, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released. Watson was appreciative of the more assertive role Hermione played, calling her “charismatic” and “a fantastic role to play”. Critics lauded Watson’s performance A. O. Scott of The New York Times remarked: “Luckily Mr. Radcliffe’s blandness is offset by Ms. Watson’s spiky impatience. Harry may show off his expanding wizardly skills … but Hermione … earns the loudest applause with a decidedly unmagical punch to Draco Malfoy‘s deserving nose.” Although Prisoner of Azkaban proved to be the lowest-grossing Harry Potter film in the entire series, Watson’s personal performance won her two Otto Awards and the Child Performance of the Year award from Total Film.
