That probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise to those familiar with the property, most of whom have been predicting that Warner Bros. would start delving more into the Potter world for quite some time now. Still, it appears that the launch of a new streaming service has given the studio the extra motivation needed to start mining the franchise for even more spin-off potential.
The series is still in the early stages of development, so not many details have been revealed about it yet. With that being said, here’s everything we know about the Harry Potter series right now that you should also know.

HBO Max could still have more Harry Potter content to offer in the future. Last year, news broke that a Harry Potter TV series was reportedly in early talks at the streaming service. HBO Maxs Head of Originals, Sarah Aubrey, recently shot down those rumors in an interview with Variety. However, Aubrey did say that HBO Max would be open to expanding its Harry Potter offerings.
Theres nothing like a Harry Potter fan in terms of their endless appetite for storytelling and new ways of interacting with these characters, Aubrey said. Opinionnbc’s Peacock Launches With A Clear Winner But It’s Not The One You Think
What happens in between? Potter will be continue to be available on Syfy and USA, via cable subscriptions. But it wont be found on any streaming services, part of an ever-growing mass of films currently in limbo, some relatively obscure, some famous. TV critic Mike Ryan recently wrote of his own failed hunt for Cocoon, once a box-office smash, but now lost somewhere in the red tape of rights ownership with no complete explanation for why it cannot be found.
At least the Harry Potter moves are being publicly covered, via the monthly missives from Warner and NBCUniversal detailing whats going and coming from their services. We can thank Netflix for these updates, a legacy of its Silicon Valley approach to content management. Netflix didnt seem to think such information was necessary once users highlighted a few favorites, the algorithm would do all the work or so the thinking went. That gave rise to an entirecottageindustry of Netflix-centric sites that exist solely to tell you what to watch and where to find it.
This led to Netflix eventually releasing a monthly list of whats coming and whats going, which other companies now dutifully replicate. But the technocrat anti-customer-service mindset remains, leaving it up to the ever-more frustrated consumer to work out whats available when and who owns what and where it all is at any given time, if it is even available at all.

What Are Fans Saying About The News
Since Rowling’s contract demands that she has a say in just about everything Harry Potter, she’ll most likely have a hand in any sort of HBO Max series. But some fans aren’t too happy about that. In December 2019, the author was criticized by LGBTQ rights groups after she supported a researcher whose views on transgender people were described by a court as not worthy of respect in a democratic society. Later on, in June 2020, Rowling tweeted an op-ed column that discussed people who menstruate, and wrote in the tweet, “Im sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” After people criticized Rowling for her implication that trans women aren’t women, she clarified in a series of tweets, that, “I respect every trans persons right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them.” She followed this with a larger statement on her position on trans rights, which detailed five reasons for being worried about the new trans activism.” All of that said, with today’s news, some people are saying that Rowling shouldn’t be allowed to profit from a potential TV show.

All The Harry Potter Movies Return To Hbo Max Bringing 10 Star Trek Movies With
The boy wizard H.P. returns once again to his home on HBO Max.
Streaming services and licenses are weird, and that means that the Harry Potter series, despite being Warner Bros. productions, sometimes leave HBO Max, a Warner Bros. Discovery service. But now, Harry Potter and all his magical friends are returning to the service, and a whole load of Star Trek is coming with them for the ride, Variety reports.
The Wizarding World films had been over at NBC Universal’s Peacock service, with which HBO Max has been trading joint custody for a few years, Variety notes. The movies left Peacock on August 31, and will fly into HBO Max Wingardium Leviosa-style on November 1.
Alongside Harry Potter, we’ll also be getting lots of James T. Kirk and Jean Luc Picard, as 10 Star Trek movies will join the service. They left Paramount+, Star Trek’s streaming home, on October 1. The movies include Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director’s Edition, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek VI: Undiscovered Country Director’s Cut, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek” Nemesis.

Is Jk Rowling Involved In The Hbo Max Harry Potter Series
Despite the desires of many fans, J.K. Rowling still controls the rights to Harry Potter, and every adaptation or project set within the Wizarding World is subject to her approval. Assuming this live-action series does get a green light from Warner Bros., it’s unclear how involved Rowling would be. It’s possible she’d write part of the series herself, following her work writing the screenplays for the Fantastic Beasts films, or she could simply serve as a producer and consultant on the series similar to her involvement in the eight live-action Harry Potter films.
Perhaps the most significant indicator of Rowling’s involvement in the HBO Max Potterverse is her appearance in the 20th-anniversary special that aired in January 2022. Some speculated that her absence outside of archival footage was due to her controversial comments on transgender issues, and subsequent comments from several actors who distanced themselves from her. But Entertainment Weekly reports that “sources close to the situation” allege that Rowling had been invited before she determined the footage they had was sufficient.
The Harry Potter films are currently streaming on Peacock. Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is currently streaming on HBO Max.

Viewers need time to make this mental switch. If the landscape remains stable for the next five to 10 years and contracts continue to streamline, users will eventually speak of content via brand as if it were the natural order of things. But it doesnt have to be, though current government policies make no sign of stopping it. But until then, viewers will find themselves in an ever-growing morass of titles flowing from one streaming service to the next, until the new world of entertainment finally settles.

One name that was left out of the confirmed ones for the Harry Potter reunion is that of the creator of the Wizarding World: J.K. Rowling. An official reason for her absence hasnt been revealed, so its speculated that shes either busy working on other projects or Warner Bros. wants to avoid backlash as Rowling isnt exactly a favorite right now following on social media. Could The Boy Who Lived see new life on the small screen?
Rumors swirled Monday that a Harry Potter TV series is in development at HBO Max. There have long been talks of a Potter-verse series, according to Variety, but there was zero info revealed about this one including cast, writers, or even the time period.
When contacted by The Post, Warner Bros. and HBO Max released this killjoy joint statement: There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.
That said, if something clandestine actually is in the works, it could be a redo of the Harry Potter books themselves, which came out between 1997 and 2007. After all, even with eight big-screen movie adaptations , theres plenty of material that was cut, such as a lot of the Marauders backstory, or Hermiones house-elf crusade.
But a TV series could also easily be set in a different era in the rich Harry Potter world after all, the spinoff movie franchise Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set around World War II, several decades before the events of the series, when Dumbledore was young enough to be Jude Law. Harrys parents generation is rife for a focus. A 1970s- and 80s-era Hogwarts could be fascinating on-screen.
Would original cast members such as Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson be involved? Time will tell. There are also several scandals that might complicate that.
‘harry Potter’ Has Grown With The ‘fantastic Beasts’ Movies
One of the amazing things about the Harry Potter franchise is that there are so many wild and wonderful things that have been touched on, but have yet to be expanded. Thankfully, the folks behind the Wizarding World have realized that fans would love to explore the rich lore that the franchise has to offer.
In 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was released into theaters to much success. The story itself, as well as its author, Newt Scamander, had been referenced in the Harry Potter franchise, but this film actually gave us a taste of the expanded lore that fans had been calling for.
Starring Eddie Redmayne, the first film’s ability to gross over $800 million, gave way to a sequel, which also proved to be a financial success. Later this year, a third film will hit theaters, turning this extension of the franchise into a proper trilogy.
Watching the franchise grow has been a dream come true for fans, and just last year, reports began to surface of a new wrinkle being added to the franchise in the future.

All Eight ‘harry Potter’ Films Leaving Hbo Max In August
Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to watch them on another streaming service!
Bad news for Potterheads: all eight Harry Potter movies will be removed from HBO Max on August 31. However, the good news is that the films can be found on another well-known streaming platform. Peacock added all Harry Potter films to its library on July 1, a shock to no one. The Harry Potter franchise has been used as a popular series attraction for both streaming services for a while now, with the movies disappearing from one platform only to show up on the other.
With all that being said, Potterheads can expect Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore to remain on HBO Max. Also, the platform still offers viewers the chance to watch the reunion of the Harry Potter cast and director Chris Columbus as they discuss the making of the films in Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.
The series quickly became a hit among readers since the first book was published in 1997. Its exploration of themes, such as death, prejudice, friendship, family, and corruption, attracted a wider audience worldwide. Rowlings writing success led to other several types of media based in the Wizarding World, like video games, plays, and even themed attractions built in many Universal Parks and Warner Bros. Studios around the globe.
