Robert Pattinson played the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Following that, Robert became the face of the Twilight series and is now all set to debut as the new Batman.

Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show recently, Daniel spoke about his bond with Robert. I was in New York about to do Equus, and I was on the Westside Highway and I turned around and saw this billboard and I was like, What, I know that guy! Daniel said, referring to Robert.

I hadn’t heard of the Twilight books at the time I hadn’t been aware of that phenomenon. And so yeah, it’s odd. We have a very strange relationship now where we basically only communicate through journalists. We haven’t seen each other in ages. Because everyone assumes we’re kind of great mates, but I’ve met him. He’s a lovely guy when I worked with him, he added.

Robert Pattinson Deliberately Chose Small Movies After Portraying Cedric Diggory In Harry Potter

However, The Lighthouse actor couldnt pass up the chance to be in Twilight when the opportunity was presented to him.

I specifically hadnt done anything which anyone would see since Harry Potter because I wanted to teach myself how to act, Pattinson shared with Collider when he was being interviewed about Twilight. I didnt want to be an idiot. This came kind of randomly and I didnt really know what it was when it first started. I was going to wait for another year. I wanted to do two or three more little things and then do something bigger and then this kind of happened and I was like, Well, okay.’

Robert Pattinson Reveals His Unique Harry Potter Wand Handling Style

After reading a book on method acting, ‘the only thing I really got out of that was just beating yourself up before every single scene,’ he said.

‘That was basically my only concept of how to prepare for a scene. I was psyching myself up as if I was getting into a fight or something before these scenes, and just screaming into a pillow and fighting, punching myself, and kind of ripping my clothing and stuff.

‘But I had all these prosthetic wounds on, and all of the prosthetics would melt off my face, and Iâd have to have all of my makeup done again. But I had no concept of how to kind of get into a psyched-up physical state.’

Pattinson also recalled holding a wand, and thinking it felt ‘so dorky’ to hold it like a magic wand, so he held it ‘like a gun… thinking I’m in a Die Hard movie’.

After the movie wrapped, Pattinson said he spent a ‘long time’ living off the money in Soho in London. ‘I really thought I was gonna do music, I don’t know where I had the belief in that,’ he said, but as he ran out of money, he eventually found Twilight – and the rest is history.

Robert Pattinson starred as Cedric Diggory in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ years before he became famous as Edward Cullen in ‘Twilight’. He shared screen time with Daniel Radcliffe. How Old Was Robert Pattinson In Twilight

Robert Pattinson shock: «Devo tutto a Harry Potter, non a ...

Pattinson was 21 when principal photography ended for Twilight. Thats admittedly a lot younger than his character Edward Cullen, who is over 108 years old. Eagle-eyed fans will notice that Pattinson looks like hes closer to 17 in the film, which is the age Cullen was when he was bitten in 1918. We wont dwell on the fact that he ends up falling in love with Bella Swan, who is actually 17, AKA 91 years younger than him.

Twilight launched Robert Pattinson as a bona fide movie star, and he went on to reprise the role of Cullen in New Moon, Eclipse, and both parts of Breaking Dawn. Pattinson was 22 and 23 during New Moons filming, 23 during Eclipses production, and 24 and 25 across Breaking Dawns shoots.

In addition to being the worlds hottest vampire, Pattinson went on to star in dozens of other films, including Remember Me, Water for Elephants, and most recently Christopher Nolans Tenet. Pattinson will be starring in the upcoming adaptation of The Batman as the title character and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne. The film is being directed by Matt Reeves and is expected to be released on March 4th, 2022.

How Die Hard Inspired Robert Pattinson’s Harry Potter Role

Robert Pattinson has already had an incredibly impressive career in the last two decades, starring in the likes of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” “The Twilight Saga,” “Good Time,” and “The Lighthouse.” Of course comic book fans are excited to see his intense version of Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” a new reimagining of the classic DC vigilante and the first trailers teased the hero’s unique ferocity as he brutally beats up goons in Gotham City. It’s a far cry away from his time at the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, that’s for sure.

Wizarding World fans will remember that Pattinson plays Harry Potter’s rival in the Triwizard Tournament, Cedric Diggory. The older Hufflepuff student is meant to be the only contender from Hogwarts, until Harry’s name also shoots out of the Goblet of Fire. They have a strange dynamic at first, as the rest of the students take sides on who they want to win in the competition but neither of them dislike each other, so it creates a slightly awkward atmosphere. They are on friendly terms, even helping each other with the various tasks in the tournament … until they both get zapped to an eerie graveyard to face Voldemort that is. Ultimatel,y Voldemort kills Cedric before the battle really kicks off, proving that he’s every bit as deadly as his legacy implies.

But Pattinson recently revealed the surprising way that Bruce Willis’ “Die Hard” series inspired his approach to his “Harry Potter” role.

Harry Potter’s Robert Pattinson Explains Why He Held His Wand Like A Gun

The Batman star Robert Pattinson explains holding his wand like a gun in 2005’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

The Batman star Robert Pattinson — who once starred as Cedric Diggory in the 2005 film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire — recently opened up about why he felt the need to hold his wand as if it were a gun.

Pattinson sat down with GQ to discuss some of the iconic roles he has played throughout his career, the first of which being that of Cedric Diggory in the fourth Harry Potter film over a decade and a half ago. “I remember holding a wand and thinking that it felt so dorky to hold it like a magic wand, so I’m holding it like a gun, with two hands thinking I’m in, like, a Die Hard movie,” Pattinson confessed. “I think I even have one eye closed, when I’m like looking down, like it’s got a view-finder on it.”

While Cedric was briefly portrayed by Joe Livermore in the 2004 film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Pattinson took over as the character for Goblet of Fire, in which the young Hufflepuff played a much larger role. Cedric’s death at the hands of Peter Pettigrew at the end of Goblet of Fire is often cited as the moment the Harry Potter franchise grew up, so to speak.

Robert Pattinson Used Harry Potter Money To Pursue Music Career

Robert Pattinson will appear as the Caped Crusader in The Batman, out in March

Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric in 2005s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, spent a lot of time living off his pay cheque from the blockbuster but put a stop to his attempts to become a musician when he ran out of cash.

I dont know where I had the kind of belief in that, because there was absolutely no one saying that theres any kind of music career on the table. But I was doing a lot of gigs all the time. I was just constantly doing open mics all the time, and then I ran out of money, basically, he told GQ magazine.

The actor went on to make millions starring as heartthrob vampire Edward Cullen in the money-spinning teen franchise Twilight, alongside ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart .

In the same interview, Pattinson confessed he used to pretend he was a drug dealer.

The Batman actor was keen to impress the cool kids when he was at school so even though he had no idea what narcotics looked like, he created his own powder doused in cleaning products, which he hid inside floppy discs and claimed he was importing illegally.

I havent thought about this in years, but during secondary school my first proper-ish kind of girlfriend was a few years above me, and I always wanted to hang out with the cool kids, who were in the oldest year. And some of us decided that Id pretend that I was importing drugs. But I didnt even know what drugs looked like, he said.

A Lie Might Have Helped Him Land His Role In Twilight

Harry Potter & Twilight to Now, Robert Pattinson’s Career So Far

While starring in a major franchise such as “Harry Potter” might seem like a boost, Robert Pattinson’s acting career wasn’t guaranteed. The British actor found himself unemployed for years after. When speaking to The HFPA In Conversation podcast, he explained that, after “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” he struggled at auditioning, using his parents’ old camcorder to shoot samples to send to his American agent

He told the Mirror he eventually traveled to Los Angeles to find work. “I’d been unemployed for ages, and when I came to Los Angeles all the casting directors would ask what I’d been doing for the past few years,” Pattinson recalled. “I’d say, ‘Oh, I was at Rada’ if you’ve got an English accent you can get away with it. I’d say I went to Oxford, too. I did it for years. But it didn’t work when loads of English people started moving to Los Angeles.”

After moving to Los Angeles and miserably failing an audition for a movie he’d been assured was his for the taking, Pattinson called his parents. “I was like, ‘I’m done. I can’t torture myself like this anymore.’ Then the next day, I got the ‘Twilight’ audition,” he told The HFPA In Conversation podcast. Pattinson played the iconic role of Edward Cullen in five films.

Even though his “Twilight” experiencewasn’t always fun, Pattinson continued to act steadily and will next be seen in 2022’s “The Batman,” per Screen Rant, proving that sometimes telling a little white lie can greatly improve your career prospects.

Robert Pattinson Held His Wand Like A Gun

Although most of the “Harry Potter” cast members had already gotten used to holding their wands over the three films before “Goblet of Fire,” it took Robert Pattinson a little longer because he was a newcomer to the franchise. He opened up about joining the series during a video for GQ where he breaks down his most iconic characters. Pattinson explained he felt “dorky” holding the wand like a normal wizard would, noting that, “I remember holding a wand and thinking that it felt so dorky to hold it like a magic wand.”

The star revealed that he was inspired by the “Die Hard” movies when it came to using the magical weapon, saying “so I’m holding it like a gun with two hands, thinking I’m in like a Die Hard movie.” Pattinson also pointed out that in some scenes he even aimed down the wand like it was a pistol, adding “I think I even have one eye closed when I’m looking down, like it’s got a viewfinder on it.”

To be fair, some of the spells the wizards use in the films are just as powerful as guns, so it’s an understandable technique. And hey, at least his gun-wand approach came in handy for his later films like “Good Time” and Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet.” Jokes aside, let’s be honest it’d be fascinating to see what “Die Hard” would’ve looked like if there were wands involved instead of machine guns. Admittedly, “Now I have a wand, ho ho ho!” doesn’t have the same ring to it.

“I remember the first scene I ever shot on that was in the magical maze at the end and I’d never done anything with special effects and stunts and it was a big deal at the time,” he said. “It felt very, very intimidating.”

The 35-year-old English actor also remembers feeling awkward and “dorky” holding a wand. “I’m holding it like a gun with two hands thinking like I’m in a Die Hard movie,” he joked. “I think I even have one eye closed.”

Ultimately, the role allowed him to be financially secure for a long period of time. In fact, the opportunity made it possible for Robert to do open mic nights and pursue a singing career.

But as many actors know, all good things must come to an end. Money became tight and securing gigs became a struggle until a Twilight audition earned him the role as vampire Edward Cullen.

“It has a passion to it,” he said when discussing the film that turned him into a household name. “I was 21 and I kind of wanted to make it as arty as possible.” You could say he really, uh, sunk his teeth into the work.
