While in a Potions lesson, Harry takes possession of a strangely annotated school textbook, inscribed ‘This is the property of the Half-Blood Prince’. Why Didnt Chris Columbus Direct All The Harry Potter Movies
Chris Columbus was the first director of the franchise, who got his position after convincing Warner Bros. to let him direct the movie adaptation of the first book.
Although the filming started in late September of 2000 Chris Columbus was heavily involved with the prefilming processes such as casting, which the director often describes as very intense. The filming lasted for 180 days and the filming of the second movie started a week after the first movie was released.
Chris Columbus expressed on multiple occasions that he wanted to come back for the last movie and that he was a little disappointed that director David Yates decided to stay on the project. Despite this, he did express that he was very impressed by Yates work and was ultimately happy that he did not take over the movie.
Why Did They Change Directors For Harry Potter
Since all of the eight movies were filmed in the span of eleven years all of it was done in a tight schedule. In addition to this, filming a series leaves a director dealing with the same story and characters which can be a bit restrictive and when combined with the tight schedule can easily lead to burnout.
This is why there were so many changes regarding the role of the director while filming the Harry Potter franchise. Luckily, this seemed to work in favor of the franchise since every director managed to evolve the series in a way that follows the gradually darkening tone of the series.

The Best Harry Potter Movie Is Finally Streaming On Hbo Max
While the series as a whole is great, one film stands above the rest while setting the tone for everything that came after.
Some art needs no introduction. Whether you are a fan, were a fan, or never gave it the time of day, sometimes you just know what a thing is about. You might never have seen Star Wars, but you know it involves space battles and laser swords. Even if youâve never read a Batman comic, you know it centers on a costumed superhero who fights crime in a dark city.
Then, thereâs Harry Potter. A millennial touchstone as both a globally best-selling book series and Hollywood film franchise, Harry Potter instilled a love of literature in generations of children with its simple premise, complex narrative, and a richly textured world that remains unparalleled in modern popular culture.
While author J.K. Rowling has expressed horrifically regressive views on trans people, we can take comfort knowing Rowling wasnât involved in everything that made the story of Harry Potter special.
Though Rowling penned every book and faithfully adapted them into a film series that grossed $7 billion between 2001 and 2011, she didnât make every creative decision along the way. She didnât cast the actors, build the sets, set up lenses, sew the costumes, compose the music, or edit the films together. Primarily an advisor and producer on only the last two movies , Rowling was involved only up to a point.

Finding The Right Actors Was A Massive Challenge Especially When It Came To Harry
Thanks to a fantastically revealing oral history of the casting of Harry Potter by Closer Weekly, we now know what exactly went into finding Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and, of course, Emma Watson. In the article, a number of the people behind the movies, as well as the actors, were interviewed about how the casting came to be.
“Finding the right actors to play the characters was a very big challenge,” executive producer David Heyman explained to Closer Weekly. “It was not easy to find a boy who embodied the many qualities of Harry Potter. We wanted someone who could combine a sense of wonder and curiosity, the sense of having lived a life, having experienced pain an old soul in a childs body. He needed to be open and generous to those around him and have good judgment.”
Truth be told, they knew they’d find the right boy for the job when they saw him… But it took eons for that to happen…
“We had auditioned hundreds of actors for the role of Harry, but with little luck,” director Chris Columbus said. “Then, the first casting director, in a fit of total frustration, threw up her arms and said, ‘I just dont know what you want!’ Sitting on a shelf in the office was a video copy of David Copperfield, starring Daniel Radcliffe. I picked up the video box, pointed to Dans face, and said, ‘This is who I want! This is Harry Potter.'”
