British Actor Tom Felton Of ‘harry Potter’ Fame Collapses During Golf Exhibition At Ryder Cup

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — British actor Tom Felton, known for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” movies, collapsed while playing a celebrity golf exhibition Thursday at the Ryder Cup.

Ryder Cup organizers said only that Felton experienced “a medical incident” at Whistling Straits and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. They provided no other information.

Felton was on the 18th hole when he went down. He was helped to his feet, placed on a stretcher and driven away in a golf cart. He turned 34 on Wednesday.

Felton was representing Europe in the celebrity match, which is held the day before the U.S. and Europe start the Ryder Cup.

He has appeared in a number of movies, most notably eight films in the “Harry Potter” series.

Draco Was Never A Real Threat To Harry

Of all the antagonists in the original series, Draco is the only one who, at no point in the series, poised a serious threat to Harry. Draco was, at his worst, always just a school bully. Every other major villain tried to at least destroy Harrys livelihood or straight up take his life. Draco tried to embarrass Harry in front of his friends. This isnt to say Draco didnt do plenty wrong while at Hogwarts and actively antagonize Harry, but that his own actions were never a real threat to Harry himself.

Draco Isnt As Hardened As He Lets On

Throughout the series, when Draco does actually appear, he puts on a hard, antagonistic front. Every interaction he has with Harry after their first meeting is coated in layers of resentment and general hatred. It gives off the impression that Draco really is nothing more than a schoolyard bully.

While this is true to some extent, especially in the earlier books, its worth considering how later revelations about Draco reframe these earlier interactions. He is someone clearly influenced by his parents and the expectations of being a Slytherin. Draco is forcing himself to act cold and aloof as per his role. Would a hardened boy cry his eyes out to Moaning Myrtle?

That Infamous Deathly Hallows Moment Wasnt Planned

Draco Malfoy

Chances are you know exactly what that means but well set the scene up for you anyway.

Toward the end of Deathly Hallows Part 2, Voldemort returns the grounds of Hogwarts to reveal to everyone that he killed Harry while Harry, unbeknownst to Voldemort, survived the attack. Having been separated prior, Dracos mom Narcissa called for Draco to come over to herand to the side of the Death Eaters. When he did, Voldemort gave him a very uncomfortable but highly memorable hug.

A couple months after Part 2s release, Felton addressed the hug at DragonCon. According to his recollection, he and Ralph Fiennes filmed around 25 takes of that scene. Out of all of those takes, only one included the hug it was a one-off thing Fiennes did. And as strange as he found the moment, he was even more surprised that it made the cut.

Its really interesting because theres definitely a difference with the audience, how they take it. In England, its considered a very chilling moment, a very sort of, the whole audience goes quiet and they dont know what to say or do. Over here , its hilarious.

Cara Delevingne As A Young Narcissa Black

The youngest daughter to Cygnus and Druella Black and youngest sibling to Bellatrix Lestrange and Andromeda Tonks, Narcissa Black was born into a life of luxury, firmly believing the importance of a pure blood lineage and constantly looking down upon Muggles and Muggle-borns alike.

Although she never became a member of the Death Eaters, she was a consummate supporter of her husband Lucius Malfoy’s actions under the rule of Lord Voldemort during the First and Second Wizarding Wars.

Envisioned here by DeviantArt user TheGeekBoutique as a younger, Marauders era version of the character, Narcissa is portrayed by a blonde-haired Cara Delevingne wearing Slytherin House’s signature emerald green colors.

With her fierce, fiery look, Delevingne manages to encapsulate Narcissa’s haughty attitude, giving her the kind of egotistical edge needed to play a younger version of the witch.

Almost All Of Dracos Actions Are Manipulated

Although thats mainly due to the fact that just about everything Draco does in the series is thanks to the world more or less manipulating him at every step. Why is he mean to Harry? Because of Lucius. Why does he help the Death Eaters invade Hogwarts? Because of Voldemort. The only time Draco truly acts out of his own agency is when its time to slay Dumbledore as previously mentioned. Even then, though, that in itself is just an action of Bellatrixs manipulation to get Draco up to that point. When we said Draco had no agency, we meant it in every respect.

Draco Is Bad At Duelling As A Kid

You can tell how much of an unreliable narrator Harry is actually is based off just how sincerely he takes Dracos duelling skills at face value when the sub-text implies Draco isnt all that impressive. Despite being considered a competent duellist, Draco is consistently defeated in duels throughout the series. Pretty much every major duel Draco participates in during the course of his Hogwarts career ends with him either beaten or humiliated. Hes still considered a competent duellist in-universe, but this is more because of who he grows into.

Freddie Fox As Draco Malfoy

Tom Felton Would Return as Draco Malfoy for More Harry Potter!

A pure-blood wizard born to Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy, Draco Malfoy was Harry Potter’s arch-nemesis during his first couple of years at Hogwarts.

A strong believer in the preservation of pure-blood lineages, he was an arrogant and spiteful bully who showed little sympathy for Muggle-borns and “blood traitors,” teasing Harry and Hermione.

With his sleek, white-blonde hair and pale complexion, Draco’s pointed features were characteristic trademarks inherited by his wealthy, upper-class family.

Thanks to his striking looks in the film Victor Frankenstein, many fans have been quick to point out actor Freddie Fox’s eerie similarity to Draco.

With his posh fashion choices and pale, blonde-haired resemblance, he’s a match made in Potterverse heaven.

Draco Malfoy Was Proficient At One Skill Harry Could Never Master

In his third year, Harry conjured a corporeal Patronus, something that wizards and witchesincluding Hermionestruggled with as adults. But he failed abysmally in other areas of magic, including Snapes attempts to teach him to close his mind from Voldemort with Occlumency. Draco, on the other hand, couldnt exactly conjure a Patronus but picked up the ability to block people out of his own mind.

He might not have had to worry about being connected to Voldemort, but he was able to block Snape out during Half-Blood Prince, something that Snape believed Draco learned from Bellatrix Lestrange. After Snape picked up on Draco using Occlumency, Draco told Snape that he learned it to keep Snape from butting in on his plans to murder Albus Dumbledore.

Although some people, such as Rowlings U.K. editor, thought it didnt make sense for Draco to excel at Occlumency while Harry failed at it, Rowling believed it made perfect sense.

I argued that it was perfectly consistent with Dracos character that he would find it easy to shut down emotion, to compartmentalise, and to deny essential parts of himself, Rowling wrote on Pottermore. Dumbledore tells Harry, at the end of Order of the Phoenix, that it is an essential part of his humanity that he can feel such pain with Draco, I was attempting to show that the denial of pain and the suppression of inner conflict can only lead to a damaged person .

Martin Freeman As Arthur Weasley

A modest family man and pure-blood wizard, Arthur Weasley worked for the Ministry of Magic. where he staunchly believed in the equality of all magical and non-magical citizens and quickly grew a deep fascination for Muggle culture.

Unable to hide his enthusiasm over his fixation, his curiosity showcased his fun-loving side as he butchering everyday words, incorrectly calling escalators “escapators” and referring to telephones as “fellyphones.”

With his bright red hair and kind treatment to Harry, to whom he acted as a father-like figure, Arthur Weasley is a sentimental and affectionate member of the Weasley family, making Martin Freeman an ideal casting decision.

As imagined , Freeman’s ability to play mild-mannered yet extraordinarily unique characters makes him a prime fan choice for the part.

Draco Is Better At Quidditch Than Harry

For as flawed as Draco is, he isnt without his own few strengths. While Harry erroneously believes Draco to be a skilled duellist, he misses out on the fact that Draco, on a whole, is a better Quidditch player than Harry. When Gryffindor loses Harry, theyre able to recover rather easily. When Slytherin loses Draco, they never recover.

One of Draco’s few genuine claims to fame.

Draco was such a skilled Quidditch player that he was able to elevate Slytherin to insanely high heights, almost consistently playing top tier from year to year carried by a single player. Draco perhaps wasnt as good a Seeker as Harry, but he was a better player on a whole, needing to fill in many roles to carry his team.
