Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 Walkthrough – 27 – A Desperate Betrayal

Snape first appears in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, shortly after Harry arrives at Hogwarts. He is the school’s Potions Master, though he is widely rumoured to covet the Defence Against the Dark Arts post. Snape himself confirms the rumour in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Snape is a sinister and malicious teacher who makes frequent snide and disparaging remarks at Harry’s expense. He quickly becomes the primary antagonist of the book, as Harry suspects him of plotting to steal the Philosopher’s Stone, and of attempting to kill him. Only the climax of the book reveals that Professor Quirrell, in league with Lord Voldemort, is the real enemy Snape, suspicious of Quirrell, had been looking out for Harry throughout the book. In the final chapter, Dumbledore suggests that because Harry’s father James had saved Snape’s life when they were both students, even though the two detested each other, Snape felt responsible for Harry in return. As the final book reveals, this is not the full story. In any case, even after Quirrell’s true role is revealed, Harry retains feelings of suspicion and resentment towards Snape, and their relationship remains tense. Snape’s behaviour and attitude towards Harry also remain unchanged.

Dullest Triwizard Tournament Ever

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, students from Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons are treated to the exciting sight of the Triwizard Tournament taking place for the first time in centuries. They crowd into stands in Hogwarts’ grounds and watch the four Champions complete various thrilling tasks…

Well, kind of.

During the second and third tasks, there’s not all that much for the spectators to see! One takes place underwater, and one in a giant maze. That must have been a boring few hours for people expecting to see the action unfold. Talk about a restricted view…

How Big Are Hogwarts’ Pipes

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the Basiliskaka, that giant, terrifying snake that has deadly eyes and is freaking HUGEmanages to petrify numerous Hogwarts students by hiding in the school’s pipes system. It occasionally leaves its lair below the girls’ bathroom to slither around undetected, all using the power of plumbing. However, this method of transportation actually makes very little sense when you think about it. How big must Hogwarts’ pipes have to be to fit a snake that size? How did it even get into the pipes system? It’s a mystery…

The Wizarding Education System

YARN

The Harry Potter series leaves a lot of questions about the wizarding education system unanswered. Is there a wizarding college, or does education just stop at 18? Is there a magical elementary school, or do children remain uneducated until the age of 11? How do they learn to read, write, and do simple mathematics? This seems to be an area in which Muggle-born children would come out on top: prior to receiving their Hogwarts letter, they’d presumably have attended a non-magical school! If JK Rowling could please take the time to explain this system, we’d be super grateful.

Few villains are as iconic as Voldemort and his snake-tattooed followers, the Death Eaters. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” Trailer 1

Throughout the third book, Snape suspects that Lupin may be helping Harry’s godfather Sirius Black enter Hogwarts castle Sirius had been convicted of murdering Peter Pettigrew and innocent bystanders, and betraying the Potter family’s hiding place to Voldemort. The Story Of The Deathly Hallows

The story goes that these three men were wandering a dark path alongside each other when they came across a dangerous river. All three men are wizards, so they cast a spell to erect a bridge across the river for safe passage.

As they attempt to pass, a cloaked dark figure appears, blocking their path. It turns out to be Death. Death is upset that these three evaded dying in the treacherous waters as wanderers usually did.

Cunningly, Death offers each of the men a gift for being clever enough to trick Death. This is how the Deathly Hallows came into existence- at least according to this childrens tale.

The eldest brother, Antioch, asks for the most powerful wand in existence. Death creates the Elder Wand from a nearby Elder tree.

The second brother, Cadmus, asks for the power to bring people back to life. Death creates the resurrection stone from a pebble he picks off the riverbank.

The youngest brother, Ignotus, doesnt trust Death and asks for the means to walk away without Death following him. Death reluctantly cuts off a piece of his own cloak- thus, creating the cloak of invisibility.

The story goes on to follow each of the brothers to their death, with the youngest brother, Ignotus, passing on the invisibility cloak to his son.

We later learn that Harry is a distant relative of Ignotus, whose cloak passed down to him through the generations.

Deathly Hallows Symbol Origin

The origins of the Deathly Hallows sprung from Beedle the Bards fairy tale The Tale of the Three Brothers. The three brothers are rumored to be the brothers Peverell Antioch, Cadmus, and Ignotus.

Who are the Peverells? asked Ron.

That was the name on the grave with the mark on it, in Godrics Hollow, said Hermione, still watching Xenophilius. Ignotus Peverell.

Exactly! said Xenophilius, his forefinger raised pedantically. The sign of the Death Hallows on Ignotuss grave is conclusive proof!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Though notoriously unreliable to separate facts from fiction, his knowledge of the Hallows turns out to be precisely what the three need.

He shares his belief that the Hallows are the focal point of The Tale of the Three Brothers and asks Hermoine to read it to them.

Inciting Event: Mad Eye engineers a plan to mask Harrys trace as they smuggle everyone to the Weaseleyss Burrow for Bill and Fleurs wedding. Along the way, everyone is betrayed and attacked by Voldemorts Death Eaters. Mad Eye is killed.

Sometimes the early structure in later books in a series can get trickysince the conflict has already been introduced long ago. But this is a great example of how to reintroduce the conflict right on the money structurally.

First Plot Point: At the wedding celebration, word comes that the Death Eaters have taken over the Ministry of Magic. Death Eaters attack the wedding, and everyone flees. Harry, Hermione, and Ron end up at Sirius Blacks old house. Theyve left the Normal World and entered the adventure world of their main conflict: on their own and trying to track down the horcruxes that must be destroyed before they can kill Voldemort.

Once again, this is an excellent example of how to pull off these elements in a late installment in the series.

First Pinch Point: They learn their old professor, Umbridge, possesses the first of the horcruxes theyre looking for. This is a decided setback, since retrieving it from the Ministry of Magic will be dangerousand because Umbridge herself is a formidable adversary.

Climax: The Snatchers take them to the Malfoy mansion, where Harry and Ron are imprisoned while Bellatrix tortures Hermione for information. Dobby the house elf responds to Harrys plea for help.
