Book : Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone
When it hit shelves: June 30, 1997
What happens in the book: After murdering Harry’s parents, James and Lily Potter, evil Lord Voldemort puts a killing curse on Harry, then just a baby. The curse inexplicably reverses, defeating Voldemort and searing a lightning-bolt scar in the middle of the infant’s forehead. Harry is then left at the doorstep of his boring but brutish aunt and uncle, the Dursleys.
For 10 years, Harry lives in the cupboard under the stairs and is subjected to cruel mistreatment by Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and their son Dudley. On his 11th birthday, Harry receives a letter inviting him to study magic at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Harry discovers that not only is he a wizard, but he is a famous one. He meets two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, and makes his first enemy, Draco Malfoy. At Hogwarts the three friends are all placed into the Gryffindor house. Harry has a knack for the school sport, Quidditch, and is recruited onto the Gryffindor team as its star Seeker.
Perusing the restricted section in the library, Harry discovers that the Sorcerer’s Stone produces the Elixir of Life, which gives its drinker the gift of immortality. After realizing that Voldemort might be after the stone, Albus Dumbledore had it moved it to Hogwarts for safekeeping.
The Magic Gadgets:
Who Is Headmaster In The Cursed Child
Although J. K. Rowling initially said in interviews that McGonagall was getting on a bit and that Hogwarts had a new Headmaster by the time of the Epilogue in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows , this was later retconned in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which has McGonagall in office as late as

While at the Top Box in the World Cup stadium, Harry meets Winky the house-elf, a friend of Dobby‘s, who is saving a seat for Mr Crouch . The Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, as well as Lucius Malfoy with his wife and Draco , are also in the box. After Bagman introduces both teams’ mascots, the match is intense and exciting, with amazing skill displayed on both sides, particularly from Krum. A fight breaks out between the two team’s mascots after Ireland is awarded many penalty shots, which angers the Veela.
Ireland quickly gains a massive lead and wins the match, despite Krum catching the Golden Snitch. After the match, both teams head to the Top Box and Fudge awards Ireland the Quidditch World Cup, while Fred and George rejoice about winning their bet with Bagman.

Peter Pettigrew making the potion for Lord Voldemort
Just as Harry and Cedric are trying to figure out what happened, a stranger appears and Harry’s scar begins hurting again. A second voice orders the stranger to kill Cedric, which he does, leaving Harry frozen with shock and horror. Harry is then dragged to a large marble tombstone with the name Tom Riddle engraved upon it. The stranger then tightly bound Harry tightly with thick black cords from arm, wrists, legs, neck to ankle to it and has him gagged.
Unable to escape, Harry recognises the stranger as Peter Pettigrew due to the missing finger on his right hand. He also notes that Pettigrew is carrying what appears to be a deformed infant. Pettigrew takes some of Harry’s blood, bone dust from Tom Riddle Snr’s grave, and puts them in a cauldron. He then cuts off his own right hand, at the orders of the strange creature, and places it in a cauldron. The creature is revealed to be none other than Lord Voldemort himself, and the potion made by Pettigrew returns him his powers stronger than before.
Quidditch Was Based On Basketball
Quidditch, the sport of choice at Hogwarts, resembles flying lacrosse in the Harry Potter films. One might imagine that the British Rowling thought of cricket when creating the game. After all, the Quidditch brooms look a little bit like bats. Actually, her inspiration was the all-American basketball. In her Amazon interview, Rowling explained, I wanted a sport for wizards, and I’d always wanted to see a game where there was more than one ball in play at the same time. The idea just amused me. The Muggle sport it most resembles is basketball, which is probably the sport I enjoy watching most.
Thanks to the popularity of the books, Quidditch has become an actual sport, with teams at many universities and its own world cup tournament. Rowling approves since she put a lot of effort into making it a fully realized sport: I had a lot of fun making up the rules and I’ve still got the notebook I did it in, complete with diagrams, and all the names for the balls I tried before I settled on Snitch, Bludgers and Quaffle.

Chapter : The Third Task
- “Yeah…we’ve helped each other out, haven’t we? We both got here. Let’s just take it together.”
- Harry to Cedric
The sphinx at the maze
Harry passes on the information he learned from the Pensieve to Ron and Hermione, excluding the details about Neville’s parents. Hermione realises this is what Rita Skeeter and Winky meant about Ludo Bagman being a dark wizard. That same night, Harry’s hatred of Voldemort reaches a new height because of what he learned from the Pensieve. As the task approaches, Ron and Hermione find time when they are not studying for their final exams to help Harry. Even McGonagall helps by allowing him to practise in her empty classroom during lunchtime. During one practice session, Ron notices Malfoy outside the castle sitting by a tree and doing something odd. Harry and Hermione also see him before they return to practice. Sirius sends Harry messages by owl each day, reminding Harry to focus on what is ahead.
On the day of the third task, Rita Skeeter releases an article claiming Harry is demented and dangerous. She uses a quote from Draco Malfoy in the article. This raises some questions between the trio, since the article mentions Harry’s scar hurting during Divination. The class takes place in the North Tower and Skeeter is not allowed inside Hogwarts, so she shouldn’t have had that information. Hermione finally figures out how Skeeter may be getting her information and leaves to put her theory to the test.
Chapter 3: The Death Eaters
- “How many will be brave enough to return when they feel it? And how many will be foolish enough to stay away?”
- Voldemort about the Death Eaters
Little Hangleton’s old cemetery
Voldemort forces Wormtail to take out his bleeding arm to activate the Dark Mark and summon the Death Eaters. While in wait, Voldemort tells Harry that after his father abandoned him and his mother upon finding out that his mother was a witch, Voldemort’s mother died giving birth to him and he was raised in a Muggle orphanage. He later sought revenge by murdering his father.
After his Death Eaters arrive, Voldemort spends time criticising them for failing to seek him out during these last thirteen years, even though they knew that he had found a way to escape mortal death. He believes they feared a power greater than his, like that of Albus Dumbledore, which is why they slipped back into normal wizarding society and claimed they were never loyal to Voldemort. Voldemort then rewards Wormtail for aiding with his rebirth by creating a new silver hand for him.

Harry is mad at Ron because he thinks is jealous, and Harry thinks that is childish. He is angry at everyone for not believing him, but mainly at Ron because Harry expected Ron to believe him without questioning him. Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
Possibly the most bloated book of the series came in 2000 with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. There was a lot that author J.K. Rowling wanted to accomplish in this novel, and it was the longest book to that point in the series. The main plot had Harry take part in an Olympic styled game for wizards.
The book really showed that death was real, as one of Harry’s friends was killed in a shocking scene in the books. This book was also where Lord Voldemort returned from the dead and declared war on Harry and all the good wizards in the world. Everything changed in this book.
Harry Potter And The Philosophers/sorcerers Stone
J.K. Rowling finished the manuscript for Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone in 1995. Represented by Christopher Little, the manuscript was rejected by dozens of publishers. Editors cited the storys length and politically incorrect focus on boarding school as reasons for rejection. Bloomsbury eventually acquired the manuscript and ordered an initial print run of 500 hardback copies. Two hundred copies hit store shelves in June of 1997 with the remaining 300 sent to libraries. Later that year, the book earned the UKs National Book Award and a gold medal in the Nestle Smarties Book Prize. These awards, along with positive reviews and word of mouth, made the book well-known in a matter of months ensuring it would receive larger additional printings. Within two years of its publication, Philosophers Stone had sold more than 300,000 copies in the UK alone.
As of 2012, Philosophers Stone has been translated into 74 languages, including Latin and Ancient Greek. More than 107 million copies of the novel have been sold worldwide.

Rowling Owes Her Success To An 8
Like many first-time authors, Rowling struggled to get her first book, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone published. The book was rejected by over a dozen publishers. Finally, a small British publisher, Bloomsbury, said yes. Bloomsbury saw the potential of the book because the chairman of the publishing house gave the first chapter to his then 8-year-old daughter, Alice, to read. Upon finishing, she immediately demanded the rest of the book. However, Bloomsbury was not convinced that it had a bestseller on its hands. Rowlings editor, Barry Cunningham, warned her that she needed to get a day job because it was impossible to make a living writing childrens books.
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Illustrated Edition
Those of us who already own about five copies of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them found an excuse to buy one more when the fully illustrated edition was released in November 2017. The color illustrations came from artist Olivia Lomenech Gill, and used a variety of artistic techniques to depict the beasts. Nearly a year later in October 2018, fans saw the release of The Tales of Beedle the Bard: The Illustrated Edition which included masterful work by Lisbeth Zwerger who brought J.K. Rowlings collection of short stories to life in great detail.
In addition to a re-release of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, an audiobook edition for the textbook was released the same day the new edition of the book came out. Eddie Redmayne narrates the book. Normally, we would’ve hoped that Jim Dale — narrator of the U.S. versions of the Harry Potter books — would be back for this, but having the textbook narrated by Newt Scamander himself is far too perfect to complain. Based on Audible’s page, the audiobook clocks in at just under two hours.

Harry Potter Hbo Max Series
In addition to Fantastic Beasts 3 there is reportedly another Harry Potter project in the works, instead of taking a theatrical route, this one — if it actually pans out — will be coming to HBO Max in the form of a television series. In January 2021, The Hollywood Reporter released a report stating that very early discussions were happening for a live-action series set within the Harry Potter universe, but there has been no word as to what the story will be about or even a confirmation from Warner Bros, who has denied that any Harry Potter TV show is currently in development at the studio or HBO Max
