In the aftermath of the Triwizard Tournament and Voldemort’s return, Harry possessed magical knowledge and experience that could be said to significantly exceed that of his fellow students. He was forced to essentially learn a variety of advanced spells to hold his own during the competition, as he was going up against much older students and facing dangerous tasks. He wielded this wand in many epic conflicts such as that at the Battle of the Department of Mysteries,, against the Inferi in the Horcrux Cave and during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower.

Im not going to lie when we visit Universal Orlando, we RARELY leave the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! And its not just because of the kids, either! Hubby and I are both huge Potterheads! And one of the best and most memorable experiences we have had, has been with casting spells with the interactive wands!
How can you watch the movies and not wish that you, too, could get your hands on a wand! Well, at Universal Orlando you most definitely can! We have put together a guide that will teach you everything you ever wanted to know , about interactive wands!
Before we dive into our guide on interactive wands, lets cover some Universal Orlando basics.
How Much Do Harry Potter Wands Cost
Wands at Harry Potter World in Universal Orlando cost between $55 for standard wands and $59 for interactive ones. Guests also have the option of purchasing the Interactive Collectors Edition Wand for $75. This is a price increase from previous years, so only time will tell if 2022 will see another uptick. Most wands range in sizes between 14-16 and are sculpted from resin and hand-painted.

How To Make Your Own Harry Potter Wand
First step is to gather your materials. You probably already some of these. All you need are wooden dowels, hot glue and paint. Thats it! If you cant find wooden dowels at your local craft store, chop sticks or pencils are a great alternative. The only other materials needed are paintbrush and mod podge for sealing.

What Type Of Wands Are Available At The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter
There are two different categories of wands available for purchase at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Interactive Wands and Non-Interactive Wands.
Interactive wands are the first type available for purchase. These wands can actually be used to cast spells throughout both Wizarding World parks. And the best part is, maps that guide you to spell-casting locations are provided! Interactive wands will cost you about $55.
Harry Potter wands Interactive vs Non-Interactive
If you do not want an interactive wand, but have already settled on a style, each wand does come in a non-interactive version. These wands come at a lower price point and can be purchased at the same places you can buy the interactive wands.
The non-interactive wands are the original wands that were available back in 2010, when the Wizarding World first opened its doors. They are lovely to look at, but have no magical abilities. Non-interactive wands will cost you approximately $49.
How To Add Detail To Diy Wizard Wands:
Carving is the biggest way to add a little character to each wand making it unique, but here are a few other great ideas we used:
- Hot Glue: One request was a Hermione style wand. I stained a basic wand brown. Once it dried I used hot glue to give it that 3d twist around the base. Once it hardened I brushed on brown paint just on the glue with a touch of gold.
- FIRE: Ok, this one was all my husband. He used a torch to give some burned look on some of the wands that was well received by the new owners.
- Name the wands! This is where it gets really fun. Add a small tag with the wands information. Example: Silver lime wood with a dragon heartstring core, 11 ½ and slightly yielding flexibility.

How Do Universal Studios Wands Work
The wands at Universal Studios work in specific locations throughout the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, all of which can be found on a map you get together with the wand. These locations will have several sensors that will notice the wand specifically, the movements that you make with it.
So, if you are at a point where an object can levitate, you need to perform the movement of the wand correctly. Its not a matter of whether you say Wingardium LevioSA instead of Wingardium LeviOsa, but more of a just swish and flick movement. Thats what the sensor will catch, not your voice, but the spell.
Next, the IR receiver will record your whole movement, filtering out the motion needed to perform the entire spell. That motion will be matched based on the reference spell motion finally carrying out the action. You can make objects fly, skeletons dance, and many other cool things. There is a total of 16 spells that you can cast, all in points spread across Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.
Some of the spots are secret, and not marked by anything. These secret wand spots are most satisfactory to find, as they can only be discovered by the best wizards. That being said, the maps will still guide you to them.
How Much Are Wands At Universal
A Harry Potter wand cost will vary depending on what type of wand youd like. The 2022 Universal Studios wand price for the original, non-interactive wands start at $49 plus tax. The Universal Studios Harry Potter wand price for interactive wands start at $55 plus tax.
Thats only a six dollar price difference for the interactive wands!

How To Get Selected For Ollivanders Wand Experience
During the wand experience, one lucky guest will get chosen from the crowd by Ollivander himself! This guest gets to try out several wands until a wand picks them, just like Harry did on his very first trip there. Many people hope to be selected for this fun, interactive opportunity, but Ollivander does choose the person based on specific criteria. Usually, the chosen guest looks to be around 12 years old. Why? Because this is the age young witches and wizards get their letter to attend Hogwarts! Do You Need A Reservation For Ollivanders
As of the date of publishing, reservations are required to be part of the Wand Choosing Ceremony. And with wait times ranging up to three hours, it makes sense to plan ahead.
Beginning at 8am, Team Members in front of Ollivanders Wand Shop will begin taking names and assigning return times. Guests will have a five-minute window to arrive once their time comes.

If you are staying at an on-site resort, your Early Park Admission will allow you to join the standby line until 8am, when the reservation system begins. You will then have first dibs on a reservation!
At 7pm, the standby line opens up, so that guests may join the regular line without a reservation. Just be aware, this is subject to change.
Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis. It is not uncommon for all reservations to be taken by 9:15am! You will definitely need to act quickly to reserve your spot!

How Do 2022 Harry Potter Interactive Wands Work
The Universal wand is a passive device, meaning there are no electronics inside. Instead, the wand reflects light back to a sensor that tracks the movement of the Universal wand. When a correct spell movement is detected, the system activates the display. In summary, youve got wizard powers. Below are the steps to use your new Harry Potter World Wand!
Where To Buy Harry Potter Wands At Universal
Just like in the book and film, youll be able to purchase your first wand at Ollivanders Wand Shop in Diagon Alley. Guests will find a large selection of wands at this famous wizarding shop. There are two Ollivanders Wand Shops in Universal Orlando one on the Universal side and the other on the Islands of Adventure side. This is because guests who only purchase a ticket for one park and not the other, will not be able to experience the other side i.e. guests of Islands of Adventure will only be able to access Hogsmeade and everything that side of the park has to offer.
Guests who enter the theme park on the Universal Studios side will be able to access Diagon Alley by walking back and to the right. Look out for the Knight Bus, which is across the way from the entrance to Diagon Alley.
If you entered the park on the Islands of Adventure side, walk straight back and to your right to reach Hogsmede. If you have a park-to-park ticket and enter on the Islands of Adventure side, youll have to hop aboard the Hogwarts Express at the Hogsmeade station to get to Diagon Alley. The same applies if you enter the Universal side.
Guests may also be able to purchase a wand at select carts scattered throughout the parks, however, the selection wont be as big as it would be in the shop themselves. The same applies to the gift shops on property in the CityWalk section.
