How Many Fans Does Harry Potter Have

Don't Miss

The Movies Are Bad Adaptations

The Real Reason Harry Potter Sneakily Recast Lavender Brown

Although beloved by fans to this day, the movie adaptations of Harry Potter are far from perfect. Entire subplots are cut out, characters are given diminished roles in favor of the leads, and each movie simply isnt long enough to cover all the content found in the books. As a result, you end up with a series filled with plot gaps.

Just read the books.

Mind you, the later movies are actually quite good from a filmmaking perspective, the third and fifth through eighth especially, but they fail as adaptations. They capture the spirit of Harry Potter, but miss out on all the nuances of the narrative. Lets not even get started on the horror that was Voldemorts fate in the movies. A complete mockery of his end in the books.

Short Stories From Hogwarts Of Heroism Hardship And Dangerous Hobbies

Pottermore Presents, a trio of eBooks, includes Short Stories by Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship, and Dangerous Hobbies.

These tales of heroism, suffering, and risky hobbies include two of the bravest and legendary characters from the Harry Potter series: Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin.

J.K. Rowling even takes you through the locked doors of Sybill Trelawneys life, and along the way, youll meet the reckless, magical-beast-loving Silvanus Kettleburn.

Harry Potter And The Fans Who Moved On

Ah, but that summer of 2011 what a glorious summer it was to be a Harry Potter fan. As Deathly Hallows Part 2 marked the end of the movies, it seemed like the whole world was talking about the series legacy. It was celebrated. It had not outlived its welcome. Rowlings tweets were harmless. Fans were sad to see their favorite story ending, but it would be the last time that talking about Harry Potter did not mean inviting discourse, or endlessly arguing about the need to separate the art from the artist.

For a short period, it was possible to believe Pottermore would be the perfect last addition to the franchise: a soft epilogue to the Potter books and movies, a way to keep the magic available for return, but also a way to move on together.

There isnt quite a together, these days, just a divide on what it means to love Harry Potter, on a scale that ranges from embracing every new word, spinoff, and Funko Pop to embracing and living in nostalgia for an era of mutual celebration through online discussions, fics, and the fan-made videos. Some fans can love Harry Potter without loving its creator, while others say the active harm shes doing has completely rotted away any lingering affection for the series that once gave them purpose.

Harry Potter as a franchise has grown up. Its fans have too, and some of them have decided it wasnt worth taking along with them.

There Are No Good Slytherins

Harry Potter likes to preach about the idea how everyone should unite and work together, but the Slytherins, save for Slughorn, are pretty much all villains. There is not a single heroic Slytherin student in the entire series. The most likable Slytherin is Draco, and he spends 95% of the series actively tormenting Harry.

Slytherins needs role models too.

Hogwarts, as a result, feels disconnected. The student body has a massive divide that, while does drive the plot, does not seem to reflect a normal wizarding world. Pottermore even goes so far as to clarify that there were good Slytherins. Just not in the books apparently, which is a shame as the books desperately needed them.

A Cast Of Relatable Characters

This Is How The Harry Potter Movies WRECKED The Actors’ Lives

What led to the success of the books and the movies were the characters that the story followed.

While Harry Potter may be the title protagonist of the stories, he is rarely any fans favorite character.

Rowling created a whole cast of lovable and complex characters, many of whom grow before the readers or viewers eyes.

Harry Potter is the perfect poster boy for the series, thanks to his troubled past and uniquely problematic life.

When he was just an infant, both of his parents were murdered, and he was forced to live with family members who barely didnt even want him around.

Many fans have been open about how Harry Potter helped them deal with rejection that they received from family members.

Fans loved watching Harry become a crucial part of many peoples lives, despite the difficult conditions he endured.

Hermione Granger is commonly one of the most favorite characters of Harry Potter fans thanks to her relatable nature.

Shes the smartest one in her friend group and often acts as the voice of reason, keeping Harry and Ron from getting hurt or in too much trouble.

Hermione is a dedicated student, despite being bullied for having a non-wizard parent.

Many fans appreciate her drive and focus which allows her to rise above the bullying.

Most fans have a friend like Ron Weasley, someone who is hesitant to new or potentially troublesome ideas yet willing to press forward thanks to their unwavering loyalty.

A Guide To Collecting Harry Potter Books

The Harry Potter series only began in 1997 and yet J.K. Rowlings books have become highly collectible. It usually takes decades for a book to become collectible and gain significant value on the rare book market. AbeBooks has sold hundreds of copies of Rowlings books at high prices, including a first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone that sold for $37,000. Do you have a valuable Harry Potter gathering dust under your bed?

Demand for collectible Harry Potters has not decreased even though the last book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was published in 2007. The movies, Rowlings high profile, and her non-Potter novels have kept interest alive.

One simple guideline to collecting Potter books: anything signed by JK Rowling has significant financial value. A book signed by one of the illustrators is much less valuable.

Who Likes The Names Of Harry Potters Kids

For me, I wasnt exactly all that fond of their names. It was rather disappointing. I can see why Harry would want to name his children after his parents and even his godfather and thats perfectly fine with me.

Thats not the problem at all and thats not the reason for my disappointment in said names. The problem is how the names were placed together as well as the other names.

Harry Potter And The Copyright Injunction

Even though Rowling gushed about her fans, and used sites like Mugglenet and LeakyCauldron to promote Pottermore, she and Warner Bros. had been serving cease-and-desists since the 2000s, attempting to shut down everything from mural reconstructions of Hogwarts for Hindu religious festivals to comics in army newspapers. In 2007, Rowling sued RDR Books for the intended publication of a physical copy of the Harry Potter Lexicon, a detailed reference website and companion to the Potter books. Just the previous year, Rowling had praised the online encyclopedia of her work and awarded it a J.K. Rowling Fan Site Award.

Not all of those legal disputes panned out the mural, for instance, was determined to be not for profit, therefore legally allowable. After suing American computer programmer G. Norman Lippert for digitally publishing fanfiction in which Harrys eldest son James starts his first year at Hogwarts, Rowling more or less stopped outwardly trying to shut down fan-created projects. Still, Warner Bros., which owns the theatrical rights to the property, continues to make headlines, cracking down on Harry Potter-themed events because of unauthorized commercial activity.

Harrys Relationship With Ginny Isnt Built Up

Although it makes sense for Harry to end up with Ginny, especially since it places him as a legitimate member of the Weasley family, their relationship itself is not built up nearly as neatly as it should have been. In the movies, its outright glossed over with Ginny barely being a character, but the books go for the bare minimum.

The love ain’t there.

Ginny has a crush on Harry, Harry reciprocates, they kiss, they dont get together, they want to date, they wind up apart for a while, and then they get married in the epilogue. Theres no substance to their romance. It isnt built over the course of the series. It just happens at the reader and at Harry.

We thought Harrys story ended with the Deathly Hallows epilogue, but then it continued in The Cursed Child. Heres what we missed in between.

Over the past twenty years, Harry Potter has changed the game in a lot of ways. Even though some aspects of the story may seem a bit dated today, it still means a lot to many people. More importantly, it still has a vibrant and bustling fan community, who are still churning out stories, discourse, and fan art to this day. Even though the Wizarding World is ever expanding, for better or for worse, fans still have a lot of room to flex their creative muscles.

Yes, there are so many pairings in the Wizarding World universe. One of the biggest stories in the books is the romance between Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley. After everything these two had gone through over the course of seven books plus a stage play, they have earned their happy ending. Maybe we have to wonder how happy that ending is given the angst and drama of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but overall they appear to be a healthy and loving couple.

Even so, there is a 19-year gap between the end of Deathly Hallows and the start of The Cursed Child. What happened in that gap? How did they flourish in those early post-War years? What did they do? Well, we have those answers ready to go for you. Its time to see just what happened to this couple once that last book closed and before the curtain rose.
