Harry Potter Reunion Cast Reunites In Tearful And Nostalgic Trip Down Memory Lane

The HBO Max documentary and special is an hour and 40 minutes long, recapturing a lot of the whimsy fans had missed in the years since the last movie was released. Our only taste of the wizarding world has been the Fantastic Beasts series but we missed the origins crew just as dearly.

The beginning minutes of Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts has the most famous stars of the series gasping in delight and nostalgia as they see their reunion invitations. It was styled after the same invitations and movie-style letters that the cast first received when joining the franchise. We see Daniel Radcliffe, who famously plays the protagonist, Harry Potter, endearing Diagon Alley. There he meets the director Chris Columbus and for a moment our tearful gazes realize that the face of our childhood is all grown up.

Rupert Grint and Emma Watson sit by the Gryffindor fireplace and have a touching moment, reminiscing of their time on set together. Meanwhile, Matthew Lewis , Tom Felton , and Alfred Enoch , all bond over champagne flutes that suspiciously resemble the ones passed out at Gringotts, the wizarding worlds bank. It is so simple yet sweet and impactful to see all of our favorites, the faces of such an impactful franchise finally all together again.

Young Stars Had No Idea Who Many Of The Adult Actors Were

With the films marking many of the young stars first onscreen performances, Felton admitted that despite being surrounded by a cream of the British acting industry he had no clue who anyone was at the time. I thought Richard Harris worked here as a tour guide for a while, he said of the late actor, who portrayed Albus Dumbledore in the first two movies.

I dont think any of the kids had the capability of understanding the gravity of who they were dealing with at the time, Columbus said of the set that was filled with the British royalty of the acting world.

With many of the adult cast having been in the business for years, Watson said all of them were surprisingly the mischief in a funny way rather than the kids. Coltrane, in particular, loved making us laugh, and he was incredibly good at it, Radcliffe said of the actor who portrayed Hogwarts gamekeeper Hagrid. Watson also praised Coltrane for being so kind to her during what she considered her big piece of acting in which Hermoine emotionally shares that Draco called her a mudblood.

I spent more time with you than my own children, Coltrane said to Watson.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts Stars:3/5

Watching the magical Harry Potter movies, or reading the incredibly scripted books have been some of our happiest memories from childhood. Anybody who has been invested in the mysterious Wizarding World shall know how important Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, is for the Potterheads. However, like the Quidditch games, which do not end as one might expect them to, the reunion special episode takes hours to catch the ‘golden snitch’, making the project go on longer than one might want or possess the energy to tolerate.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts Lacked Deep Analysis

We would have loved to see more of the actors and actresses confessing the difficulties experienced throughout this time, it wouldve made them more relatable and interesting, for instance, the film completely glossed over Emma Watson when she spoke about feeling lonely and thinking of leaving the franchise. Perhaps tackling things that were a bit more dark and difficult would have added the depth of this film needed.

It also should be mentioned that while J. K. Rowling was not included, the reasons were not provided. The special couldve been a great time to speak on her transphobic comments and a commentary on the importance of authors and creators to perpetuate a healthy, diverse and inclusive environment for all. Clearly, she is not completely void of the Harry Potter franchise as she is one of the screen riders for the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: the Secrets of Dumbledore movie.

However it is true that this special was not meant to tackle such heavy or dark subjects, in fact, it was the perfect lighthearted reunion that we all needed, a reminder that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter still stands to be one of the most beautiful and nostalgic. It even reminds you of the binge-worthy quality of all the movies and the familiar feeling of watching Harry Potter destroy Voldemort and his gang of death eaters. So if this weekend you plan to brew a cup of butterbeer and rewatch the films, we wont blame you!

Film writer Gracie Quinn reflects on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, ahead of its 20th anniversary

With the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets approaching on the 2nd of November this year, I want to take a look back at the film, the actors and actresses, and the lasting memories they have given us through the magical world of Harry Potter. The film, which was directed by Chris Columbus, who also directed the first film, is a fairly accurate representation of the action and plot followed within the book. As the sequel to the first film in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, the film expands on the magical world that J.K. Rowling created. Through cinema, the light, whimsical tone of the first film is continued.

Richard Griffiths, who played Vernon Dudley so excellently, died in 2013, and of course, Alan Rickman, who appeared in all eight films as Severus Snape, died in 2016. Although these actors who appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets wont be around to witness the 20th anniversary, they helped create the lasting legacy of the films and will always be remembered for this.

The Weasleys And The Malfoys Were Chalk And Cheese

Harry Potter 20 years anniversary 2001 2021 thank you for the memories ...

Throughout the franchise, audiences not only follow Harrys journey but two opposite families: the Weasleys and the Malfoys. When speaking about being a Weasley, Grint, Bonnie Wright, and James and Oliver Phelps explained that the Weasleys parents, played by Julie Walters and Mark Williams, acted as their own family offscreen. They were like my second family. They always stayed in character, Grint said.

During a sit-down with the Phelps twins and Williams, Wright explained, Being a Weasley is the best part of being in Harry Potter. We had our Hogwarts family, but I felt, like, so special having an actual, extra family. They also noted that it was chalk and cheese when comparing the Weasley family to the Malfoys.

Isaacs admitted that he originally auditioned for the role of Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, but hes convinced he secured the role of Lucius because he didnt want it. I read through gritted teeth and deeply bitter and, of course, thats exactly what was necessary, and they asked me to play Lucius, he said of his audition.

When working with Isaacs, Felton recalled how easily Isaacs would be able to become the most unfriendly, horrible person Ive ever met when in character as his stern father Lucius. I adored Tom from the second I met him. He was always just the biggest sweetheart, Isaacs said of Felton.

Helena Bonham Carter Sparks The Reunion To Life

A fan-favorite moment of the entire special has to do with Helena Bonham-Carter, one of the brightest and most exciting personalities in the movie industry. Her chaos end contagious energy can be seen in the special as well as she teases Tom Felton about the artificiality of ones and makes Daniel Radcliffe blush by mentioning a sir Tejas and good-natured note that he had left for her years ago:

I just wish Id been born 10 years earlier, I mightve been in with a good chance.

Unfortunately, there isnt much of a performance for the actors and actresses, the focus is mostly on them having a good time with one another and proving that despite the many years that have passed, they are all still good friends family in fact.
