Rowling has suggested that she may have inadvertently taken the name from the hogwort plant , which she had seen at Kew Gardens some time before writing the series, although the names “The Hogwarts” and “Hoggwart” appear in the 1954 Nigel Molesworth book How to Be Topp by Geoffrey Willans.

Most exterior scenes were shot on location at Alnwick Castle, but views of the exterior of the entire school were created from shots of Durham Cathedral with a digital spire added to the towers. Durham Cathedral also served as a set for Hogwarts interiors.

A scale model was created for exterior shots of the entire school. Models of Alnwick Castle and Durham Cathedral were also built to create more integration between the model and on location shots. It took a team of 86 artists and crew members 74 years worth of man hours to complete the model.

Hufflepuff After The Series

During the Battle of Hogwarts, Hufflepuff lived up to its symbolic animal, the badger, and was the only house besides Gryffindor to have nearly every single one of its students stand up and fight Voldemort’s army. Though they valued peace, tolerance, and kindness, they were more than willing to fight for what was right, especially when threatened on their home turf.

Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks’ son, Edward, would be sorted into House Hufflepuff when he turned 11 in 2009 and carry on his mother’s legacy as a metamorphmagus as well. Additionally, another Hufflepuff named Hannah Abbott would become the landlady of the Leaky Cauldron, a popular pub for wizards and witches that served as an entrance to Diagon Alley. She would eventually marry Neville Longbottom, and the two would live above the Cauldron for some time, though Hannah would later apply to become Hogwarts’ new “matron,” the school’s primary nurse.

Ravenclaw After The Series

After Voldemort’s defeat, Luna Lovegood went on to become a famous wizarding naturalist and met and married Rold Scamander, the grandson of the author of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” She found and documented many previously undiscovered magical creatures, but eventually had to accept that the “Crumple-Horned Snorkack” that her father told her about as a child actually was just a fairy tale.

Gilderoy Lockhart would remain a permanent resident at St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries due to the extreme damage he did to his mind, and many Ravenclaws, including Professors Flitwick and Trelawney, would provide invaluable help during “the Calamity,” a mystic event during which a number of objects, people, creatures, and concepts were sent asunder through both time and space, threatening to forever break the statute of secrecy that protected the wizarding world from being discovered by the rest of the planet.

There are many disagreements on which Hogwarts House should bear the title of being number one. No matter if you value a certain House because of a specific character, your own values, or your Pottermore result, you must have a favorite. But how to rank Hogwarts Houses fairly? In this article, we explain why it is such a daunting task due to J.K. Rowlings magic touch.

In our first place, we put non-other than Ravenclaw.

Whether you agree or disagree, you have a reason to read our reasoning behind the list! Support us or prove us wrong in your next Harry Potter debate.

fairness 4th place

One of the biggest problems when it comes to the movie industry is showing vs. telling. Sometimes, a movie will start by telling you a story about a character to save time.

Another thing which is often used is montages. They are a form of showing instead of telling. You can see what is happening to the character and judge their actions on your own, form an opinion on them, and develop sympathy.

We all started with some universal knowledge about Hogwarts and its past, as well as certain characters. Slytherins were shown as bullies from the very beginning, and we rarely see their cunning and instinct.

They are also said to be resourceful, but we hardly can appreciate those traits since Tom Riddle is the one who shows them.

What Are The Characteristics Of Hogwarts Houses In Harry Potter

Notable members are Luna Lovegood, Filius Flitwick, and Cho Chang. Ravenclaws ghost, The Grey Lady, is notable in helping Harry in finding the Ravenclaw diadem, and her story may reflect themes of power, betrayal, envy, and pride.

In members like Luna Lovegood, Ravenclaw might be interpreted in the fact that there is knowledge in everything, even in that that might not even exist, or seems impossible to believe.

HUFFLEPUFF is described as the house of the loyal and the fair. The mascot is a badger- the colors are yellow and black.

The founder is Helga Hufflepuff, and the earth is their element. The Hufflepuff ghost is The Fat Friar. Hufflepuffs are seen as loyal, having a good sense of fair play, and are hard-working and kind.

They are, however, slighted by others, and are seen as people who do not fit into the other three houses, or are seen as weak or untalented.

Notable members are Cedric Diggory, Nymphadora Tonks, and Newton Scamander. Hufflepuff might have been used as a way of seeing how other misfits are unjustly seen within society and maybe saying that these supposed oddballs have deeper depths and have their own interests, skill sets, and talents.

SLYTHERIN is described as the house of the ambitious and the cunning. Their device is the serpent, and their colors are green and silver. Its founder is Salazar Slytherin, and their element is water.

They are seen as the worst house in the series and produces the darkest wizards and witches.

Which Hogwarts House Is The Best

The answer to this is the one you’re sorted into.

This may seem like a cop-outoh, everyone’s special in their own way! but if you think about it logically, it makes a lot of sense. Each Hogwarts house prizes the traits that their students have. For example, Gryffindors believe that courage is one of the most important traits a human can have, and because of this strive to be brave in everything they do. They prize the trait that their house exemplifies, and therefore they’re almost definitely going to see their own house as the best. This logic follows with the other houses too Hufflepuffs treasure loyalty and are loyal, Ravenclaws care about expanding their own knowledge and wisdom and are wise due to this, and Slytherins value cunning and ambitious and therefore embody these traits. Because of this, you’re almost always inclined to view your own house as the best , and so you should! Be proud of your house and your own strengths and values!

Hufflepuff During The Series

Though many see its willingness to accept everybody as a sign that its students aren’t intelligent, brave, or cunning enough to make it into the other houses, it has produced a number of exceptional witches and wizards, including the famous Newt Scamander, the magizoologist, author, and main character of the “Fantastic Beasts” series of films.

During the “Harry Potter” series, Pomona Sprout, the professor of herbology, was Hufflepuff’s head of house. Though the house rarely harbored any rivalries, that changed for a time during the fourth book, “Goblet of Fire,” when Harry Potter entered the Triwizard Tournament despite the fact that a Hufflepuff named Cedric Diggory had been selected as the school’s champion.

Though Cedric ultimately won the Triwizard Tournament, he and Harry were transported to Voldemort when they both took hold of the Triwizard Cup. Voldemort had Cedric killed immediately after his arrival, but his shadow, or echo, was among the many that attacked Voldemort afterwards and helped Harry escape back to Hogwarts with Cedric’s body.

Harry Has Two Contrasting Father Figures

Colors also come into play with orphaned Harrys father figures in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone: Rubeus Hagrid and Albus Dumbledore. Rowling points out that red and white are complementary colors in the mystical science of alchemy, and represent different stages of spiritual transformation. Where my two characters were concerned, I named them for the alchemical colors to convey their opposing but complementary natures: Red meaning passion , white for asceticism Hagrid being the earthy, warm, and physical man, lord of the forest Dumbledore the spiritual theoretician, brilliant, idealized, and somewhat detached, she wrote on Pottermore. Each is a necessary counterpoint to the other as Harry seeks father figures in his new world.

Harry Potters Magical World

The main series starts shortly before the famous young aspiring sorcerer starts his first year of school.

This makes the educational system a major aspect of the original story, including how the students learn and develop.

It also makes the audience interested in how it works compared to their own education system, particularly if theyre enrolled at one of the many public schools.

Students are taken through learning various forms of spellcraft and magic, consisting of defending against evil magic, brewing potions, breeding animals, and much more. Its quite an interesting experience than one would normally go through.

Notable students include the Harry, Hermoine, and Ron trio Draco Malfoy and his associates and even Tom Riddle during his time before the main story.

Much like aspects of European society today and much of it in the past, a persons family is incredibly important.

There are only about a handful of them considered as pureblood. Some of the most historically powerful include the Black, Malfoy, and Lestrange families.

After the events in the main series, the Potters, Weasleys, and Longbottoms became much more famous and influential.

The Four Houses (Wrock band)

Are you Gryffindor? Are you Hufflepuff? Are you Slytherin? Are you Ravenclaw?

Find out with the Hogwarts Sorting Experience created by J.K. Rowling.

Now, were assuming youre more than familiar with the four houses of Hogwarts, but heres a quick refresher, just in case.

Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago by four powerful wizards: Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw and Helga Hufflepuff. They chose to split the students into four houses, each bearing their surnames and featuring young wizards and witches who displayed abilities and personalities they wanted to nurture.

To do this, Godric Gryffindor used his magical hat henceforward known as the Sorting Hat to decide which children should go into which house, and so it has been ever since with a yearly Sorting Ceremony that places each new pupil into their own new home.

The four houses have different entry requirements, and nobody summed them up better than the old Sorting Hat itself in its welcoming song…

Is It An Obvious Advice

Not really, since its an advice regularly disregarded by many students.

Consider every single thing Harry did .

Now consider every single thing the Marauders did.

Still think its trivial, obvious, useless advice, either literally or metaphorically?

Bonus pedantry: technically, Latin translation is a sleeping dragon must never be tickled, though the difference isnt semantically meaningful.

The literal meaning is obvious, but the message that I take from this is, I think, quite genuinely good advice, and it doesnt seem to have been picked up on. To me, the point is that theres a distinction to be drawn between bravery and stupidity. Theres nothing smart about doing something obviously dangerous, like tickling a sleeping dragon, because its probably gonna work out disadvantageously for you.

Perhaps less philosophically interestingly, it could also simply be a warning against causing trouble unnecessarily, against opening up a can of worms, or stirring up a hornets nest.

To me, assuming the first interpretation, the Muggle parallels would be things like :

  • Dont play with fire
  • The trouble with grabbing a tiger by the tail is that sooner or later you have to let go.

Or my personal favourite:

Gryffindor After The Series

After the dark wizard was finally beaten, former head of House Gryffindor Minerva McGonagall was appointed the new headmistress of the school, and Neville Longbottom eventually became the herbology professor. The school grounds were repaired and reopened as the school continued business as usual.

Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and many other Gryffindor students all went on to work at the Ministry of Magic, with Harry going on to become head auror while Hermione became the minister of magic, the head of the entire British magical governing body. Ginny Potter née Weasley, meanwhile, went on to become a professional Quidditch player for the Holyhead Harpies and a sports reporter for the Daily Prophet.

Gryffindor was praised and honored for its lengthy, involved role in the defeat of Voldemort and the achievements of its many students, and thus it remains one of the most respected houses at the school. In the latter half of the 2010s, many of the series’ main characters began sending their children to the school, and James Potter II, Lily L. Potter, and Rose Granger-Weasley were all sorted into the house.

What are the characteristics of Hufflepuffs?

Hufflepuff is the most inclusive among the four houses valuing hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play rather than a particular aptitude in its students. Hufflepuffs were known to have a strong moral code and a sense of right and wrong.

Why was Hermione not Ravenclaw?

And this is why Hermione does not fit into Ravenclaw, since she lacks their creativity of thought. When you also add in her fearlessness and her strong convictions about right and wrong, which are inherently Gryffindor traits, then there was even less of a chance shed end up wearing blue and bronze.
