The Hunger Games Movies
Although theres no magic, The Hunger Games movies have more in common with Harry Potter than you might think, mostly because of the plot. The movie features a brave young woman, Katniss, doing everything she can to defy a system of government thats been corrupted beyond redemption.
Any true Potterhead can relate to that story. The movies are also similar in that they build over time. The big bad gets bigger, badder and harder to defeat with each movie. Trust me, if you dig Harry Potter, youll love The Hunger Games.
This is another movie without magic in it, and yet somehow, its still incredibly reminiscent of J.K. Rowlings magical world. Set in a future, dystopian society, children coming of age are sorted into different factions which they then leave their families for and devote themselves to entirely.
Also based on a very popular, best-selling young adult series by Veronica Roth, these movies feature a powerless young girl, Beatrice, who pledges into one of the most violent, physically demanding factions, to the surprise of her family and all who know her.
While there, though, she discovers theres something darker and more dangerous happening that no one else knows about, and no one else is stopping.
If youre looking for another movie that allows you to experience the thrill of a seemingly innocent, powerless young person taking down something so much larger than herself, give it a try.
What Makes A Movie Like Harry Potter
The first thing people associate with the Harry Potter franchise is, of course, magic. Magic, though, isnt the only thing that can make a movie feel very Harry Potter-esque.
Watching a downtrodden or misfit kid discover that life held more in store for him than he ever could have imagined is a huge part of the franchise, and a movie with a similar plot can give off a lot of Harry Potter vibes.
A group of kids/teens forming strong bonds of friendship in the face of adversity, the overwhelming power of good against evil, enduring friendships that stand fast through hardship and hard feelings, an underdog rising to the top and defeating a much more powerful adversary, these are all things that can make a movie similar to Harry Potter and also just make it a great flick to watch.
Now lets take a look at some of the options out there, ranked in order from most like Harry Potter to least like Harry Potter.
Both Have Felt The Cruciatus Curse
There has been some terrible things which have happened to the group throughout their adventures, but none are as painful as the Cruciatus Curse.
A favorite tool for the Death Eaters as a method of;tormnent,;Harry receives this curse from The Dark Lord himself during their duel at the graveyard in Goblet of Fire, while Hermione is the recipient following her torture session with Bellatrix Lestrange in The Deathly Hallows.
Both survived the agony, but their screams of pain made fully evident how painful it must have been for them.
Fortunately Ron was never on the receiving end of this curse.

Harrys Sudden Feelings For Ginny
We all knew about Ginny’s obsession with Harry ever since that scene on Chamber Of Secrets when Harry drops by the Weasley’s home. It was apparent she had a crush on him since young and those feelings further developed as the years went by. However, Harry never seemed to realize this , having crushes on other girls, such as Cho Chang, and never paying a second glance at Ginny. However, in Half-Blood Prince, Harry’s feelings for Ginny appear without notice, coming as a surprise to the audience. Sudden and suspicious? Very much so.
Her First Boyfriend Michael Corner
Do we even have to talk about how bland and uninteresting Ginny’s first boyfriend, Michael Corner, is? Ginny always seemed to desire excitement and danger, something different, so why exactly did she end up with Michael Corner in the first place? It doesn’t seem like the kind of boy she’d have a crush on, at all. Maybe this relationship only meant to showcase that people from different houses could date. Seems like a waste of Ginny’s time.

The Elder Wand Was His All Along
No matter how many horcruxes Harry and his friends successfully destroyed, Voldemort was still a more powerful wizard than him, so when Harry arose from the dead to pick a final fight with the Dark Lord, he was handily overtaken by Voldemort. But Voldemort still couldn’t kill him a second time with the wand, even after he’d taken ownership from Snape. Why? Well, it turned out that Snape wasn’t the one who’d gained control of the Elder Wand in the first place, so it didn’t pass to Voldemort upon Snape’s execution by Nagini.
Sure, Snape had killed Dumbledore and taken possession of the wand in Half-Blood Prince, but it was Draco who’d originally disarmed Dumbledore, and thus received the allegiance of the Elder Wand. Then, when Harry disarmed him in their subsequent duel, it was Harry who’d laid claim to the Elder Wand’s efficacy. So, while the Elder Wand was successfully used to strike its master down in the forest, when Harry had thoroughly surrendered himself, he still wasn’t disarmed of the wand in that battle. So, it remained loyal to Harry, instead of Voldemort. When Voldemort tried to cast a death curse on him a second time, this time against its owner’s wishes, it was a no-go. Hermione Granger And Ron Weasley
Hermione and Ron have also enjoyed romantic happiness and have two children, Rose and Hugo. Ron joined Harry as an Auror at the Ministry of Magic, where they revolutionized the department. After only two years, Ron left the Ministry to co-manage the wizarding joke emporium Weasleys Wizard Wheezes, alongside his brother George. His greatest achievement to date remains getting his picture on a Chocolate Frog Card.
Hermione was the only member of the original trio to complete her schooling at Hogwarts. After which, she went on to a successful career in the Ministry of Magic. She began her path continuing the work of S.P.E.W. at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, where she promoted better treatment of house-elves. In spite of her slightly-unhinged house elf obsession, she eventually became Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement before rising to the top job of Minister of Magic.

Harry Defended Hermione From Cho Chang
Cho Chang first caught Harrys eye in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban;and his feelings for her would only continue to grow over the years, culminating in the two of them going on a date during Order of the Phoenix.
Unfortunately, during Harrys one and only date with Cho, she began to show jealousy towards his relationship with Hermione and made the assumption that they were romantically involved and even went as far as to insult her.
Harry was quick to defend his friend from Chos insults, which put a strain on their relationship.
While Harry and Hermione have never been romantically involved, that has not stopped many others from assuming that they two of them are together.

Ginnys Friendship With Luna Lovegood
Luna Lovegood is definitely one of my favorite characters in the franchise so knowing that there is a friendship between Ginny and Luna might seem like a moment of happiness to me and every other reader, due to how strong both characters are. However, it’s through Ginny that Harry meets Luna as Looney Lovegood, showcasing how Ginny doesn’t think highly of the other girl. Luna talks a lot about Ginny and how nice she is but the friendship seems to be quite one-sided. Luna thinks of Ginny as a best friend but we rarely even see them together. Ginny should really treat Luna better.

In Order of the Phoenix, Harry and his friends end up in the Ministry of Magic and find their way to the Department of Mysteries. While there, they encounter an odd room with a veil hanging in the center, where voices of dead loved ones can be heard by those that have lost someone. Luna, Harry, and Neville, having lost important people in their lives, are fascinated by the veil, having to be pulled away from it due to the danger it brings to whoever gets close. But Ginny also displays the same fascination… why? At this point she hadn’t lost her parents, brothers, or anyone close to her.

Ginny And Harrys Break
The disturbing part of this fact is how stupid it is. At the end of Half-Blood Prince, Harry decides to do the “heroic” thing of breaking up with Ginny in order to protect her from harm. It was public knowledge that they were dating, even to Harry’s enemies, so why this was necessary goes beyond my comprehension. Not only that but Harry decides it’s a good idea to downright deny his feelings for Ginny. However, what he failed to realize was that Ginny was going to fight Voldemort, no matter what. She’s a tough cookie and nothing will stop her from fighting in the Wizarding War.

Was It All In His Head
There’s a popular fan theory that everything that happened to Harry Potter outside of Privet Drive was a mental machination of his young, abused mind, and Deathly Hallows did little to dispel that theory. In fact, while at the heavenly version of King’s Cross Station, Harry asked Dumbledore if it was all in his mind and his headmaster told him that it was, but that didn’t make it any less real.
So, was the entirety of the Harry Potter universe fiction, coming from the imagination of a desperate boy who lived under the stairs and who wished for something more? Very possibly so.
Petunia And Vernon Dursley
Yes, they were neglectful, rude and borderline cruel to poor old Harry, but the reason Petunia and Vernon were ranked so highly on this list, ahead of much nicer characters, was purely on their suitability factor. If this pair took a compatibility test, they would rate 100 per cent. Their shared disdain of magic, love of Dudley and sheer fury over the Weasleys made them perfect for one another. This was the most irritatingly ordinary relationship of the series, and were all going to have to make our peace with that.

During their quest to locate and destroy Voldemorts Horcruxes, Ron became vehemently frustrated about their progress. It resulted in a very large fight which caused Ron to leave the group. During his dramatic exit, he anticipated that Hermione would accompany him, yet she chose to stay with Harry and carry out the mission.
Thankfully the group would end up being reunited, however the fact still remains that her initial instinct was to remain with Harry, not Ron.
