- All external shots of Hogwarts were filmed with an extremely detailed model. Each miniscule brick is hand painted in the massive scale model. There are even miniature furnishings in some rooms to make them look real as the camera flies past.
- It took one of the graphic designers three months to hand draw the Marauders Map. Unfortunately, right after completion her toddler decided to color it. It then took her another four months to create an even more intricate Marauders Map which is the one we are all familiar with.
- Creating Dobby the house elfs appearance had been difficult for the creative department. They couldnt quite find the right inspiration. One day, a staff member brought her dog to work. The German Shepherds big eyes and floppy ears were perfect inspiration for the Dobby we know from the films.
- Although there are a lot of animatronics and practical effects, Dobby is all computer generated. Dobby was just a puppet on green sticks to help actors know where to look during filming. The only real Dobby is the one that Harry cradles in his arms after his great sacrifice.
- The beds in the boys dormitory are tiny! They only built the Gryffindor boys dormitory set once, and the beds were a only a good fit at the very beginning of filming.

How Do I Get From The Hotels To Warner Bros Studio Tour London
- Jurys Inn Watford – By car the hotel is approx. 10-15 minutes away. Alternatively, it’s an 8 minute walk to Watford Junction, where you can hop on the official Studio Tour Shuttle Bus and it will take you straight there. Buses run every 20 minutes, take 15 minutes and cost £3.00 pp for a return.
- Leonardo Tower Bridge Hotel – If you’re driving the journey will typically take between 55 minutes – 1hr 20 minutes. By public transport the journey will take around 1 hr 30 minutes.

You will definitely want to check the website for up-to-date opening times, but generally throughout the year the studio is open from 8.30am through to 10pm. More specifically:
- Doors open at 8.30am
- First tour starts at 9am
- Final tour starts at 6.30pm
- Studio closes at 10pm
These times do vary by day. In terms of dates, the Studio is open every day of the week. There are some exceptions, it is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day .

About The Harry Potter Studios
It was in the year 2000 that the first Harry Potter film- Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone — was shot at a studio in Leavesden. On completion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Warner Bros. announced that they would be purchasing the site as a permanent attraction dedicated to the wizarding world. It was officially launched as Warner Bros. Studio Tour London The Making of Harry Potter in 2010. Props, costumes, and sets from all eight films have been preserved and maintained to date.
Where To Buy Harry Potter Studio Tour Tickets
If you are making your own way to the Harry Potter studios, you have to buy your ticket in advance from the official website. You cannot turn up without a ticket, and tickets are not for sale on site.
Tickets go on sale well in advance, but despite the site having capacity for up to 6,000 people a day, they tend to sell out far in advance, so you will want to plan as far ahead as possible.
The summer months, weekends, and school holidays are the busiest days of the year for the Studio so we recommend that you book as far in advance as you can if you are visiting over those periods.
Weekdays often have better availability, so if you are flexible, look at different days of the week to maximise your chances of getting a ticket.
Tickets are for timed entry, which helps the studios manage visitor numbers throughout the day. Whilst there is no limit to how long you can stay after you enter, you do need to enter the attraction at the time you book. There is a little bit of flexibility in this, but its best not to show up hours later than your time to avoid disappointment.
The WB Studios Tour folks recommend you arrive at the site at least 20 minutes before your ticket time so you can go through the security checks.
If you cant buy a ticket from the official site, dont worry, you still have lots of options.
