Facts About The Harry Potter Movies That You May Not Know About

What is more interesting is that fans of the movies found themselves ageing with the characters as the instalments hit the screens. This is because the three central characters in the film Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley were actually about 10 or 11 years old at the time the first film was released in 2001 and were grown-ups by the time of the last one in 2011. This progression in the age of the actors in keeping with the progress of the storyline made the film series more relatable to audiences.

As for the Fantastic Beasts films, they are so far not directly connected to the events of the Harry Potter films. Since only three of the originally five planned instalments have been released, it is to be seen if the saga connects to the story of the boy wizard in later films.

Harry Potter: What Is The Chronological Order Of The Films

Harry Potter has established itself as the #1 magic franchise worldwide, grossing exorbitant amounts of money. Here, check which is the chronological order to see all the movies of the saga and its specials.

Harry Potter is the world’ s most famous and highest-grossing magic franchise. Competing with The Lord of the Rings, the story has established itself as the most popular in the industry and has grossed 974.8 million worldwide over the years. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who play the golden trio, have been the faces of the saga since time immemorial.

Today, the wizarding world is in mourning, as the actor who brought Rubeus Hagrid to life passed away at the age of 72 this Friday morning, October 14. Robbie Coltrane will always be remembered as one of the most versatile and talented actors of his generation. During the cast reunion for the 20th anniversary of his passing, the actor alluded to the importance of his character and the legacy he has left behind.

“The legacy of these films is that my children’s generation will be putting it on for their children… They’ll still be watching in, easily, 50 years from now. Although I won’t be around anymore, unfortunately, but Hagrid will be, yes”, he said, looking into the camera. Here, check out how to see the award-winning actor’s best work.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2

The final movie in the Wizarding World canon is “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.” This film brings closure to most of the series’ outstanding questions, and sees Harry and Voldemort’s long battle finally come to an end. Harry is able to defeat his enemy by successfully destroying his Horcruxes and mastering the Elder Wand, freeing the Wizarding World from the Dark Lord’s tyranny at long last. This requires Harry to embrace his own death, as he himself turns out to be one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes.

This final film also wraps up many of the series’ different relationships. Hermione and Ron finally embark on a romantic relationship, while Harry and Ginny resume their own. Additionally, Severus Snape is revealed to have been working on the side of the angels the entire time. An undercover double agent, he reveals his love for Harry’s mother with his dying breath. Harry pays tribute to him by naming his son Albus Severus.

Notably, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” features a stirring epilogue. The final scene takes place years in the future, where Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny are married adults. They are shown seeing their kids off to Hogwarts, within a world that is safe and at peace.

Why The Time Gap Between Fantastic Beasts & Harry Potter May Never Be Filled

There is a substantial time leap between the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies â but that gap might never be filled. When J.K. Rowling initially set out to make the Fantastic Beasts movies, the original plan was that there would be five in total. The first film in the series performed well, though not as well as the other Harry Potter movies. Studios hit a snag when The Crimes of Grindelwald came out, however, as it’s arguably the worst Potter film of all time.

The second Fantastic Beasts installment damaged the series, as it wasn’t well received by audiences and lost a considerable sum of money at the box office. Hopes were certainly not high for Fantastic Beasts 3, and the movie faced a major recast, with Mads Mikkelsen taking Johnny Depp’s place as Gellert Grindelwald. Ezra Miller’s growing list of accusations also didn’t help. Fantastic Beasts 3 opened to mixed reviews, with Mikkelsen’s performance being praised but not much else.

As of now, director David Yates has another film on his production schedule, and no news has come out about the possibility of Fantastic Beasts 4. The movie might not come to fruition, as studios would be unwilling to shell out millions of dollars for another likely flop. When it comes to watching the Harry Pottermovies in order, the third Fantastic Beastsfilm might be the very last on the list, and audience imaginations might have to fill in the blanks.

Every Harry Potter Movie Ranked

Harry potter movies in order 1

As with the Harry Potter books, opinions on which entries in the series are the best are varied and subjective. As a result, ranking the Harry Potter movies by their IMDb user scores reveals a remarkable consistency in fan response, with all eight instalments clustered between 7.4 and 8.1 out of 10. For our own opinion on this topic, see our in-depth article on the best Harry Potter movies ranked from worst to best.

The three Fantastic Beasts movies are noticeably the least loved releases spawned from JK Rowling’s Wizarding World, a fact reflected by the second movie’s near 20% drop at the box office compared to its predecessor, and the third film’s massive 38% drop from the second’s box office revenue ).

The more successful of the three, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, made less money than all-but-one of the Potter movies . But, seeing as it had 12 years of inflation on its side, its debatable whether it actually outperformed the earlier film.

Differences From The Book

At 766 pages in the British edition and 870 in the American edition, Order of the Phoenix is the longest book in the Harry Potter series, however the film is the second shortest. Screenwriter Michael Goldenberg described his task to cut down the novel as searching for “the best equivalent way to tell the story. My job was to stay true to the spirit of the book, rather than to the letter”. Goldenberg said that Rowling told him, the producers, and Yates that “she just wanted to see a great movie, and gave permission to take whatever liberties felt needed to take to translate the book into a movie she would love”. Cutting down the book to meet the time frame of the film, Goldenberg explained, became “clearer when figured out that the organising principle of the screenplay was to narrate Harry’s emotional journey”. He and Yates “looked for every opportunity to get everything could in there. And where couldn’t, to sort of pay homage to it, to have it somewhere in the background or to feel like it could be taking place off-screen”.

Rita Skeeter, the journalist played by Miranda Richardson in Goblet of Fire, was also removed. In the book, Hermione blackmails her into writing an article that supports Harry as the rest of the Wizarding world denies his claims. Richardson noted that “it’s never gonna be the book on film, exactly. … They’ll take certain aspects from the book and make it something that they hope is going to be commercial and that people want to see”.
