Where To Buy Wands At Universal Orlando Resort
There are several places to buy wands at Universal.
You can also purchase wands at the various souvenir shops near the front gates of the two theme parks plus at the huge gift shop in the CityWalk section.
Is The Interactive Wand At Universal Worth It
Interactive wands are totally worth it! With 25 official spell locations between both parks, our 9 and 11-year-old kids were occupied for HOURS! Its definitely worth paying the extra $6 to get the interactive version of a wand.
And although the wands are a little pricey, they can be used during future visits as well. The wand magic actually lasts forever, as there are no batteries or need for recharging!
One of Miss Somersaults favourite spells REVELIO opened the Chocolate Frog box in the window of Honeydukes.
We would recommend against purchasing your interactive wands online. You may be disappointed with what you get. Instead, inspect and select your wand in-person at the parks, and you wont regret your purchase.
If you plan on returning to the Wizarding World, you can use your interactive wands again and again! And trust me, the kids used the wands with the same interest and fervour on each subsequent visit!
Where Are The Spell Locations
Below, we have compiled a list of all the spells in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, including mystery spells that are not shown on the map, with numbering that corresponds to the numbers on said map. All spells in Hogsmeade are located in shop areas, while the ones in Diagon Alley are scattered throughout the titular alley itself, Carkitt Market, Horizont Alley, and Knockturn Alley.

Differences Between Diagon Alley And Hogsmeade
Generally speaking, the interactive wand experience in Hogsmeade seems to be more difficult than the one in Diagon Alley. Not only are many of the spells more challenging to execute some of the effects have been incorporated into existing windows, making the cameras harder to find and less effective at detecting wand movement but some guests might be unaware of the experience and can walk, stand, or push in front of spell-casters. If you are accompanying a young witch or wizard, you may want to stand in the space beside a window to block interference while she is attempting to cast.
We recommend beginning your interactive wand experience in Diagon Alley to develop some magical expertise before heading over to Hogsmeade. It seems that there are not as many team members on-hand to assist at the latter, so London is the perfect place to start.
Supplies For Harry Potter Wand Boxes
- Poster Board in colors: White, Black, Navy Blue, Gold, Hunter Green I purchased the black and white posters from my local dollar store and the Navy Blue, Gold, Brown and Hunter Green from my local craft store. Also, you can make 4 wand box tops per poster board and 5 wand box bottoms per poster board. So for 20 wand boxes you would need 5 solid color poster boards and 4 white poster boards. I would buy at least 1 extra poster board in white and another color in case you make any mistakes and to make the templates.
- White regular 65-67 lb Card Stock to print box labels and end cap box labels
- Batting 100% Polyester Batting
- Dual Temperature Mini Hot Glue Gun and mini glue sticks
- Regular Glue Sticks
- Craft Cutting Mat or surface that can get messed up

Can You Reuse Wands At Universal Studios
The beauty of these wands is that you can use them every time you go to Universal Studios if you keep them in good shape. Still, even if the wand ends up damaged, dropped or with a scratched tip, you may take it to Ollivanders. Wands may be used for years at a time, as long as you take good care of them.
How Do I Cast Spells With An Interactive Wizarding Wand
Once your wand has chosen you, dear wizard, you are ready to get out there and make some magic! Spell spots are marked by medallions set into the pavement, which can be located using your map . Each medallion indicates where you should stand to cast that particular spell, what direction to face, the wand movement required to cast the spell, and, finally, the words to be uttered while waving your wand.
Interactive wands cast their magic by reflecting to an infrared camera at each spell site. To guarantee success in casting a spell, you must aim your wand in the right direction, as indicated by the medallion. To preserve the integrity of the theming, the cameras are carefully camouflaged throughout the displays, so look up, down, and in the corners to locate them, and point your wand directly at the four dots of red light to ensure that the camera can see your movements. Keep your gestures small, as the cameras area of reception is limited. The best way to cast spells is without actually moving your arm perform the required motion using only your wrist.
When using an interactive wizarding wand, saying the spell is completely unnecessary, since the effect is based on motion only. However, carefully enunciating wingardium levio-saaaah is a part of the experience, so feel free to do your best Hermione impression. If youre still feeling bashful, you can simply waive your wand and claim that youre able to do non-verbal spells.

What Does The Interactive Wand Do At Universal
Interactive wands can be used to cast spells throughout the Wizarding World. With an easy swish and flick, the wands will cause unique and magical things to happen, like making it rain under an umbrella, or causing a feather to float in the air.
All you need to do is be on the lookout for the brass medallions that are embedded in the ground throughout the Wizarding World. These medallions not only indicate where you can use your interactive wands, but which spell you need to cast to make the magic happen!
Notice the medallion embedded in the ground? It is pointing in the direction of where the spell needs to be cast.
The dual-sided map that comes with the interactive wand, will show you all the places to practice your charms in Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, and even in Knockturn Alley.

Types Of Wizarding World Wands At Universal Studios Hollywood
Interactive Wands and Resin Wands
There are two kinds of wands available for you to purchase. The most popular wands are the interactive wands. These special wands can be used all around Hogsmeade at Universal Studios Hollywood to activate different effects in windows and other features. The resin wands are essentially decorative wands that you’d purchase to display in your bedroom or office or have for dressing up and play. They are cheaper and lighter than the interactive wands. You can purchase a wand stand for displaying your wands at Ollivanders.
Prices for the wands vary. Expect to pay around $55 for the interactive wands and $49 for the resin, non-interactive models. If you have tadpoles ages 5 and up who aren’t yet into Harry Potter and who don’t know the characters, there is a less-expensive toy wand available in the shop. It lights up and can be yours for about $30.
Harry Potter Birthday Wands
With the help of a shop assistant, try using your birthday or a significant life event to help in your decision making. If youre a lucky wizard, you may just be selected for the wandmakers show at Ollivanders. The wandmaker will pull you to the front of the crowd and help you pick a wand based off of the characteristics they describe of you, making it a very unique Harry Potter World wand experience.
Harry Potter World birthday wands allow you to choose the type of wood youd like to use for the base of your wand off of the date you were born. This will also lead to the attributes that you have.

How Do You Get Picked At Ollivanders
When buying a wand, certain lucky people may also be able to participate in ceremonies where the wand chooses you just like in Harry Potter. In this ceremony, you will be able to watch a show and be invited to try out a few wands until one of them chooses you.
In each pairing show, the wand keeper will have you cast a few spells until you find the wand that is best suited for you. In the end, you will be given the option to purchase the wand that chose you or go for a different model.
The answer to who gets chosen is this: It is a wizards secret. Theres no known formula to it, and everything is completely random. It may be a young adult, or it may be a child.
Increase your chances of getting picked at Ollivanders by dressing in Harry Potter gear from head to toe and making yourself as visible as possible stand more to the front line rather than the back. This way, the wand keeper should be able to see you.
If you dont get picked at Ollivanders, you should not take it too hard. Instead, you should take a personally-bought wand and have fun. You can try again at later ceremonies if youd like. One good tip would be to go in the afternoon, as the line gets shorter at that time of the day.
Obviously, everyone wants to get chosen by their wand at the beginning of the day. Dont try to plead to the wand keeper to pick you or your child they will politely decline you.
