Harry Potter Stars Look Unrecognisable As They Reunite In France 20 Years After First Movie

First Harry Potter film, ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, turns 20

THERE was a miniature Harry Potter reunion in Paris yesterday – as five of the former stars from the films met up.

Stan Yanevski, who played Bulgarian Quidditch champ Viktor Krum in the movies, shared a picture with a host of other co-stars fans may well recognise.

He posted a shot of them all together 20 years after the first movie writing: “Catching up in #france .”

Stan appeared on the left side of the picture, beside Hugh Mitchell, who played Gryffindor lad Colin Creevy.

The Muggle-born character was famous in the Harry Potter story for taking pictures of the renowned boy-wizard – and he is now a photographer himself in real life.

In the centre of the shot is Devon Murray, who played Irish student Seamus Finnigan.

The 33-year-old, who is still an actor, was one of very few characters to appear in all eight films.

Second from the right is Tolga Safer who was aide to the headmaster of wizarding school Durmstrang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Can You Buy The Extended Versions Of Harry Potter

The Harry Potter Extended Versions have the deleted scenes, found on the home movie releases, cut back into the film. The Ultimate Edition releases of Sorcerers Stone and Chamber of Secrets in 2009 included the extended versions of each film. They are the only extended editions released on DVD and Blu-ray.

Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone Real

The events of Philosophers Stone take place between 1991 and 1992. Filming began on September 29, 2000, and continued until March 23, 2001. Its release was scheduled for November 4, 2001.

The main character, Harry Potter, was 11 years old during the events of the first book/movie. Since the ages of characters did not differ in the books and movies, it is safe to say how old a certain character was at what time.

However, the actors were sometimes a bit older or younger. So, for example, Daniel Radcliffe was 11 years old during the filming of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone.

Many influenced the young British actors from the Potter films influenced Radcliffe, maybe none more so than Gary Oldman, who played Sirius Black in many of the films, most notably the last, 2004s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Surprisingly, Radcliffe considers the film to be the time he learned he liked acting.

He claims that his parents constantly reminded him that he was not obligated to just keep doing this.

But as he grew in confidence, Radcliffe started to see his active creativity as his most valuable quality as an actor.

Ron Weasley, Harrys best friend often seems less mature than Harry or Hermione. However, he was 11, going on 12 at the time. His actor was a bit older and was exactly a year older than his character. So, Rupert Grint was 12 at the time of filming.

Here’s how to watch the Harry Potter movies in chronological order not including any movies in the works, like the three more planned Fantastic Beasts prequels. We know that the series will end with a duel between Albus Dumbledore and former BFF-turned-nemesis Gellert Grindelwald in 1945, but everything in between is currently a mystery. Below, we decided to just include everything Harry Potter-related that it’s possible to watch right now including the stage play, The Cursed Child.

  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Note that outside the US, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is known as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Aside from the occasional flashback, the Hogwarts-set movies in the series follow a simple linear structure mostly thanks to Rowlings decision to use the British school calendar as a framework for her narrative. That means each of the seven books in the Potter series focus on a different school year , starting in 1991, when Harrys 11 years old.

A Special Episode Before A Sequel

The recent confidences of Chris Colombus echo older rumors of adaptation. Shortly before the plays first performance in London, we learned that Warner Bros. had filed the title of the work for a film, just in case. The studios had cracked a denial a few weeks later: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play, without any plan to make it into a film .

But in March 2021, it was the turn of WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar to put a coin back in the machine. Theres this little thing called Harry Potter, which is one of the most beloved franchises in the world. We were incredibly grateful to have had the chance to work with JK Rowling, and I would say there is a lot of fun and potential in that, he said at a press conference. Many specialized media were advancing in the wake of a sequel around The Cursed Child was under discussion.

As fans continue to believe in the possibility, Warner Bros. has not yet confirmed anything. One thing is certain, however: aficionados of the Harry Potter saga will be able to follow the reunion of the cast of the time, in the original settings of Hogwarts, during a filmed birthday party. The special episode Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts Will Be aired on HBO Max on January 1, 2022.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets: $100 Million

With The Sorcerers Stone proving to be a big hit among fans, Warner Bros chose to make The Chamber of Secrets on a tight budget with the movie coming bottom of this list with production costs of $100 million. But, while money was saved, the blockbuster was certainly entertaining.

Harry spends most of his second year at Hogwarts accused of being the Heir of Slytherin, whose mysterious beast is attacking muggle-borns throughout the school. Thankfully hes able to defeat Tom Riddle, AKA Lord Voldemort, during an epic confrontation in the Chamber itself. With a little help from Fawkes the Phoenix, of course

Will Warner Bros Release The Columbus Cut Of Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone

Fans Mark 20th Anniversary Of First Harry Potter Movie

Back in 2001, it was difficult to get a vastly extended cut of a movie released. But the practice has been picking up steam lately. Warner Bros. made waves when it released Zack Snyders Justice League, a much longer version of the 2017 film, on HBO Max. Warner Bros. also made the Harry Potter films, so whos to say fans couldnt get a mega-sized version of Sorcerers Stone sometime?

According to Columbus, the three-hour version was a hit when they screened it, at least with kids. We knew that the film worked because we did a couple of previews, the director said. Particularly a Chicago preview where our first cut was a three-hour cut. Parents afterwards said it was too long, the kids said it was too short. I thought, well, the kids presumably have a shorter attention span so this is a good thing.

Find out where The Crimes of Grindelwald falls on our ranked list of the best Harry Potter movies

Trying to decide what are the best Harry Potter movies is such a dangerous endeavour that one can only liken it to an unaccompanied trip into the Forbidden Forest. The good news is that were going to follow the spiders together, which might make it a little less terrifying, but please keep your wand at the ready. Theres a simple reason why trying to rank the best Harry Potter movies is like a particularly fiendish O.W.L. Its easy to forget but due to how long it took to finish the series in film form, multiple generations of wizards literally grew up with these movies. Throw in the latest two Fantastic Beasts entries and these are formative film memories were playing with here, a magic that even Dumbledore himself would surely warn us against trying to fully understand.

Casting The Roles Of Harry Ron And Hermione

Daniel RadcliffeEmma WatsonRupert GrintHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2Trafalgar SquareLondon

In 2000, after a seven-month search, lead actor Daniel Radcliffe was discovered by producer David Heyman and writer Steve Kloves seated just behind them in a theatre. In Heyman’s own words, “There sitting behind me was this boy with these big blue eyes. It was Dan Radcliffe. I remember my first impressions: He was curious and funny and so energetic. There was real generosity too, and sweetness. But at the same time he was really voracious and with hunger for knowledge of whatever kind.”

Radcliffe had already established himself as an actor in the 1999 BBC television production of David Copperfield in which he played the title role’s childhood years. Heyman persuaded Radcliffe’s parents to allow him to audition for the part of Harry Potter, which involved Radcliffe being filmed. Rowling was enthusiastic after viewing Radcliffe’s filmed test, saying she didn’t think there was a better choice for the part of Harry Potter.

Also in 2000, the then unknown British actors Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were selected from thousands of auditioning children to play the roles of Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively. Their only previous acting experience was in school plays. Grint was eleven years old and Watson ten at the time they were cast.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix Set In 1995/96

The Order Of The Phoenix was the longest of all the Potter books, and it got impressively condensed into the shortest of all the movies. However, to many, that is the biggest issue of the film.

It takes place, once again, at Hogwarts, during Harry’s fifth year, where Hogwarts is a very different place under the Ministry of Magic control. It lacks a lot of what the book does brilliantly, but there is no denying how entertaining it can be, and that whole final stretch is terrific.
