How Did Harry Potter Survive

How Does Harry Potter Come Back To Life Without The Resurrection Stone

How did Harry Potter REALLY survive?

Harry survived the Killing curse because of his mothers protection. The night Voldemort killed his parents, Lilly created a magical protection power originating from love.

The protection was supposed to be lifted once harry turned seventeen, however, Voldemort accidentally prolonged its effects. Voldemort concluded that if he mixes Harrys blood into his resurrection potion, it would course through his veins and allow him to bypass Lillys protection and allow him to touch Harry without getting hurt.

What Voldemort didnt know is that this would also make sure the protection continues to live through his own blood and keep Harry alive.

This is why when Harry got hit by the Killing curse he did end up in J. K. Rowlings version of heaven he wasnt actually dead. After the conversation with professor Dumbledore, he got the chance to either stay with him or return to the real world.

What Happened When Voldemort Tried To Kill Harry

A post shared by Harry Potter Film on Oct 1, 2019 at 12:18pm PDT

Voldemort was not able to kill Harry because Harry was the true master of the Elder Wand. So, therefore, Harry survived. Instead, Voldemort unknowingly made himself more vulnerable by trying to kill Harry since instead, he destroyed the Horcrux inside Harry. Harry ended up going to a kind of in-between place, where he meets Dumbledore and Voldemort is temporarily knocked out as well.

Harry is also still somewhat protected by his mothers love for him. And this is all Voldemorts own doing. When he was rebuilding his body during Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he used Harrys blood to do so. Therefore, he took some of Lilys protection into himself.

Why Did Harry Survive Voldemorts Curse In The First Place

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Every Harry Potter fan knows why Harry survived the first time Voldemort tried to kill him. Its all thanks to his mothers love. Yet that protection wore off once Harry reached the age of 17, which he had by the time he met Voldemort in the forest.

This time things are more complicated. His mothers protection does play a role, which well get into later. For now, all you need to know is that it had supposedly worn off when Harry met Voldemort again since he had reached the age of maturity in the Wizarding World and was no longer living with his Muggle aunt and uncle.

One of the complicated reasons why Harry survived has to do with the Elder Wand. Though Voldemort had the wand at the time, Harry was its true master. Therefore the wand wouldnt allow Voldemort to kill Harry. When Voldemort tried, he instead destroyed the Horcrux that he never intended to make in Harry.

The Choices Both Harry And The Dark Lord Made

However, the choices that both Harry and the Dark Lord had made had a large part in the final outcome of events. If either of them had made even one different choice, the outcome may have been different.

It is important to state that I always saw these kinds of magic as essentially un-scientific in other words, there is no Elder Wand + Lilys Blood = Assured Survival formula. What count, ultimately, are Harry and Voldemorts own choices. They have each been given certain weapons and safeguards, but the power of these objects and past happenings lie in how they are understood, and how they are used or enacted upon. Harry has a deeper and truer understanding of the meaning of the objects and past events, but his greatest powers, those that save him, are free will, courage and moral certainty.

One of the simplest, though certainly not the only, example of this was that Harry could have chosen to die when the Killing Curse hit him.

A Key Weapon Presented Itself

The Sword of Gryffindor had been an instrumental tool in destroying horcruxes throughout Harry Potter lore. Dumbledore used it to destroy the Gaunt family ring. Harry retrieved it from the frozen lake, after it presented itself to him, and Ron used it to destroy the locket that was causing his buddy so much mental anguish. Despite knowing its powers, Harry offered the sword to Griphook in exchange for him helping them get into Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault at Gringotts, and he made good on his end of the bargain.

Griphook returned to villainy soon after, though, and left Harry and his friends in a lurch, by abandoning them in the vault caverns with no promise to get them out. Hermione, always with a clever idea up her gown sleeve, led the trio to ride a dungeon-bound dragon out of the bank, with Griphook perishing in the fiery skirmish that ensued. The sword then disappeared from his grip, to present itself to a more worthy pair of hands.

Later on, when Hermione and Ron were back at Hogwarts trying to lure Nagini away from Voldemort, to destroy what was one of the final remaining horcruxes, the Sword presented itself to Neville Longbottom by way of the Sorting Hat, so he could slice the snake’s head off and give Voldemort one last crucial blow before he did his ultimate battle with Harry. Unlike other weapons of its ilk, the Sword knew no master, and simply chose whoever was worthiest at the time. And few were more worthy than Neville.

Why Didnt Harry Potter Die As A Baby

How Did Bellatrix Lestrange Survive Azkaban?

Harry Potter is believed to be the most famous child ever and a favorite fictional character among children and young adults. He is equally celebrated in his fictional Wizarding World and the school he is attending, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as he is in the real world. Harry became popular for being the first person ever to survive a killing curse and defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort when he was just a baby. How was a baby able to survive a curse that has never failed to kill?

The reason why Harry Potter did not die as a baby was because his mother gave up her life to protect him, therefore shielding him with the most powerful defense against magic: love.

Harrys mother died telling him how loved he is and with that, her love continued to live and serve to protect Harry from harm and evil, causing him to be untouchable to the Dark Lord. Even though Lord Voldemort tried to kill Harry multiple times while he was attending Hogwarts, he was unable to succeed. He remained protected until he turned seventeen. It was also very important that Harry stayed with his aunt Petunia and her family during the summer break because aunt Petunia shares the same blood as his mother.

First, he had to defeat a monster, Grendel. Next, he had to defeat Grendel’s mother. Lastly, he had to defeat the dragon. All of the archetypes portrayed in both The Hunger Games and Beowulf serve a purpose and without them, the plot would weaken because if there wasn’t someone to help, test and be a hero, there would be no story. Although both The Hunger Games and Beowulf are excellent example of Voglers twelve-step model of the Monomyth, both works of art are different, yet the same when it comes to their plots.

There Is No First Timeline There’s Only One Timeline In Which Harry Has Always Saved Himself From The Dementors

“I knew I could do it this time,” said Harry, “because I’d alreadydone it. . . . Does that make sense?”

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, chapter 21: “Hermione’s Secret”

Different writers have different ideas of how time-travel works and how it influences the past or the future. Some of these ideas are of changing timelines and alternate futures, shifting from one into another. The most notable example of these is probably Back to the Future, where changes in the past ripple slowly into the future. People can go back in time to change the past, then witness how these changes affect the future.

In the case of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban however, there is a stable timeline that happens to be folded back on itself. The timeline “just is”.There is a loop, but the loop has always been and will always be there. Harry couldn’t have decided to do anything differently the second time. The grandfather paradox does not exist in a universe such as this because no-one has murdered your grandfather before your father was conceived, no-one ever will. This is known as the .

Did The Resurrection Stone Bring Harry Potter Back To Life

Why do you live

Contrary to its name, the Resurrection Stone is not what brought Harry back to life. Although many people assume the stone has the ability to bring the dead back to life this is not really how it works.

The way it works is described in the legend of the three brothers. Rather than reviving people the stone just brings them back as a shadow of who they were before they died.

This is why the second brother ultimately killed himself. His original wish was to bring the girl he loved back to life but the Resurrection Stone couldnt bring her back.

We actually see the way it works when Harry drops the stone in the Forbidden forest. Rather than bringing his parents and Remus and Sirius back to life, they appear in front of him like ghosts.

This means that even if Harry tried to bring himself back to life with the stone, he wouldnt actually succeed in his plane. He would simply return to the world as a ghost.

Lily’s Protection In Voldemort’s Blood Saved Harry

When Lord Voldemort rebuilt his physical body in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he used Harry’s blood. That ingredient would go on to aid in the Dark Lord’s downfall. At first it seemed that the love protection was canceled out when Voldemort used Harry’s blood, since Voldemort was able to touch Harry without experiencing pain – but that wasn’t the case. The protection, first created by Lily, actually lived on through Voldemort when he received a new body. As Dumbledore explained, “His body keeps her sacrifice alive, and while that enchantment survives, so do you.”

When Voldemort hit Harry with the Killing Curse in the forest, it destroyed the Horcrux that resided in Harry, but left Harry himself alive. Since Voldemort was still alive, Lily’s love spell was still in effect. Harry was sent to limbo, where he encountered Dumbledore. He was given a choice to die and finally rest, or return home, and he chose the latter. Nagini remained as Voldemort’s last Horcrux until Neville destroyed her with the Gryffindor’s Sword. With no Horcruxes remaining as Voldemort’s primary defenses, this left the Dark Lord vulnerable.

Harry’s Protection Against Lord Voldemort

Why Did Harry Survive At The End Of The Deathly Hallows?

When Lily sacrificed herself to save Harry in Godric’s Hollow, he was protected by magic’s strongest defense: love. Dumbledore explained to Harry at a young age how Lily’s love lived on and served as a protection against evil. However, there’s more to Lily’s protection than that. Harry remained protected when he moved in with the Dursley family because, as sisters, Lily and Petunia shared the same blood. Dumbledore knew this, which was why he chose the family to take care of Harry after becoming an orphan, and insisted on Harry returning to the Dursleys every summer despite their ill treatment of him.

Lily’s protection still encompassed Harry when he started at Hogwarts. Voldemort was unable to touch Harry, and if he tried, he would be a victim of serious pain – as proven in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The love protection spell lifted when Harry turned seventeen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is why he had to be hurried away from the Dursleys’ house in the dead of night. However, Lily’s protective charm was unwittingly extended by Voldemort himself, who ended up spelling his own doom.

Rowling Answers 10 Questions About Harry

J.P. Masclet

In her interview with TIME and in webchats with fans, the Harry Potter author reveals a few more secrets

1. Why doesn’t Fred appear in the woods at the end as well?“Do you know what? I never even thought of Fred comingback. That’s how I always planned it, from when the first book was finished, that the three marauders and his mother would come back. There were fourheroes as it were in the previous generation and one of them betrayed theothers, and then there were the three. So I wanted Harry to be surrounded byhis mother and James and Sirius and Lupin, all of whom had died in a way forhim. You know Lupin had laid down his life in Harry’s battle, he didn’t haveto come back, he didn’t have to fight. James had died trying to protect thefamily Sirius very obviously had died fighting along with Harry, and thenhis mum who most explicitly had died for him. I never thought of bringingFred back at all. It was all the previous generation, and they were allstrongly parental figures for Harry.”

2. Did Harry die?Rowling wrote this very carefully, so it could be read two ways. “Did hejust go into a state of unconsciousness in which his subconscious tells himeverything he needs to know? Dumbledore doesn’t tell him anything hecouldn’t have figured out with some educated guesses.” But in her mind,Harry entered a limbo between life and death, and faced a choice about whichway to go.

10. Was Teddy Lupin a werewolf? No he was a Metamorphmagus, like Tonks .

Harry Didnt Really Die

After the Killing Curse hit him, Harry asks Dumbledore if hes dead, and Dumbledore says no.

Then Im dead too?

Ah, said Dumbledore, smiling still more broadly. That is the question, isnt it? On the whole, dear boy, I think not.

They looked at each other, the old man still beaming.

Not? repeated Harry.

Not, said Dumbledore. – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Chapter 35

The reason for this, Dumbledore goes on to explain, is that the Dark Lord taking his blood tethered him to life while the Dark Lord lived, since Lilys protection was then inside them both.

He took your blood believing it would strengthen him. He took into his body a tiny part of the enchantment your mother laid upon you when she died for you. His body keeps her sacrifice alive, and while that enchantment survives, so do you and so does Voldemorts one last hope for himself. – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Chapter 35

Harrys blood in the Dark Lord tied him to life, so he didnt truly die. He was further helped by being the true master of the Elder Wand. It didnt want to kill its master, so the Killing Curse it cast against him wasnt as powerful as it could have been. It had nothing to do with the Resurrection Stone – that only brings back the shadows of people who are already dead, it doesnt prevent death.
