Where to stay in New York City? That is one of the most important decisions when planning your visit. With so many options to choose from, it can be an overwhelming decision. Today we are sharing our recent stay and our Westin New York Times Square review.

We were very excited to find one of the best places to stay in NYC, the Westin New York Times Square.
A trip to New York City is on many family travel bucket lists. The energy of NY is unlike any other place we have visited and there is truly something for every type of traveler.
This was our second visit as a family to NYC. We made the visit in early 2021, you can read about our visit: New York in 2 Days: Tips for First Time Visiting NYC with Kids.
On our first visit we didnt have a big plan and we were still working through traveling during the pandemic. Things looked a lot different for this visit. There are mandates and pandemic precautions in place, that I will go into details on later in this post.
For 2022 we plan on experiencing 22 new family experiences. The first thing on our list was to see a Broadway show. We wanted a location that was easy to walk to and family friendly.
The Westin Times Square was a perfect location for our first family adventure. Before I go into details on the hotel and what we did during our visit, there are a few questions you should ask yourself when determining where to stay in NYC.
Butterbeer Wands And Merchandise
As far as shopping goes, the building attempts to condense Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade into a two-story shopping attraction. Featuring interactive displays, exclusive merchandise, and themed areas, the wizarding store goes above and beyond to distinguish itself.
Guests can indulge their sweet tooths by browsing the shelves of Honeydukes candy shop or ordering from the Butterbeer Bar, which in addition to a souvenir cup, also offers various confectionaries such as Butterbeer ice cream and miniature Harry Potter birthday cakes. Or, after learning about different wands and their owners via an interactive display, guests can choose their own modeled after their favorite characters. Also, in addition to wares such as toys, home comforts, books, and clothing, shoppers can purchase personalized items via Things That Must Be Named.
I think the best part about Harry Potter New York is that theres something for everyone, whether youre a superfan or not, Durrant stated.
Regardless, most can expect to come home with something from the Harry Potter shop, whether its an indulged palate, something from the shelves, or memories shared when exploring the stores displays and attractions. Similar to the city surrounding it, Harry Potter New York offers a unique charm that needs to be experienced in person to understand what makes it so magical.

Franklin D Roosevelt State Park
Located in the grounds of FDR State Park, Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience will take place within the woodlands of the estate. Access will be via the entrance on Taconic State Parkway. Please note that this is an outdoor trail, conducted in darkness hours. Staff and signs will guide guests from the parking lot to the start of the trail.

Dining At The Westin New York Times Square
The Westin Times Squares on-site restaurant and bar the Foundry offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Currently the Foundry is open for breakfast only but be sure to check the website for the most updated information.
We enjoyed the buffet style breakfast . There was something for everyone including hot and cold items, oatmeal, cereal, pastries, waffles, and specialty breakfast items.

Merchandise Prices At Harry Potter Store
Now, lets talk about prices!
You can get some stationery items like pencils, pens, and notebooks for about US$ 2, US$ 8, and US$ 15, respectively.
As for sweets, a Chocolate Frog costs US$ 12, and Every Flavour Beans are US$ 12 in the paper wrapper or US$ 22 in cute tins.
The wands, which can be of various characters like Harry, Dumbledore, and Hermione, or just from the houses of Hogwarts, cost US$ 38.
Keyrings and other small souvenir items cost about US$ 10.
Everything About The Harry Potter Flagship Store In New York City
Harry Potter New York is the first official Harry Potter flagship store in the heart of New York City next to the iconic Flatiron building. The store, which was officially announced at the beginning of 2020, had its opening postponed due to the pandemic and it is finally open on June 3rd. I had the opportunity to visit the place with exclusivity at an event this weekend and I also took lots of photos and collect information to update you about this new place that promises to be a new destination for the Harry Potter fans that visit NYC.
Fun fact? I have not read the books or watched the movies but there are things that we know that are important to cover for your audience, right? But, dont worry, Im already planning to catch up with the story by watching the movies soon. My brother and sister have always been super fans!

Day : Exploring Broadway & The Knicks
This day had been planned since Christmas when the boys received NBA tickets and my daughter received Dear Evan Hansen tickets. We all had a lot to look forward to.
Our day started with breakfast at the Foundry at The Westin. Breakfast was delicious! I am a creature of habit and stuck with my daily oatmeal and fruit. The kids made waffles and pancakes with lots of chocolate chips.
Our first stop after breakfast was the Museum of Modern Art. Not to be confused with The Metropolitan Museum of Artwhich is exactly what we did.
We thought we were going to a different place but made the best of it. The MoMA is a pretty cool art museum. Kids are free with adult admission. I wouldnt say this is geared for kids and I would probably not recommend it for little ones but we enjoyed a few familiar pieces during our visit.
After the museum we headed to Ellens Stardust Diner for lunch. This diner is small, so be prepared for waits or to be seated close to people.
The food is okay and a bit pricey, but the atmosphere is fun, and that is why you visit! The wait staff take turns singing Broadway songs throughout your meal. Most of them are working on Broadway or trying to and if is nice to contribute to the local arts.
After lunch we wanted to walk around a bit more, the weather was pretty nice for February too. The sun was out and there was little wind making it easy to walk around for the afternoon.

Best Time To Visit New York City
New York City can be visited year-round, as each season has its own charm. If you want to be able to walk outside, then avoid visiting the city during the winter months. Spring and Fall are the best seasons to visit New York City and the perfect time of the year to be in the city as the first one brings nice weather and green colors to Central Park and the latter the fall foliage and its magnificent color show.

The moment you open the door to this flagship store, youre swept away into the wizarding world. Perched overhead, a 220-pound model of Fawkes the Phoenix watches as you enter.
Before setting off to explore the Harry Potter Stores 15 different themed areas, make sure you download the Harry Potter Fan Club app. As you wander through the store, look for authentic props from Warner Bros like the still-broken Ron Weasleys wand and the Golden Snitch from Harrys first game of quidditch.
Scan the code nearby to access enchanted keys unlocking exclusive behind-the-scenes facts, figures and videos. Admittedly, my grandkids were much better at unlocking these keys than I!
Parking At The Westin New York Times Square
The Westin New York Times Square offers parking to their guests at the ICON parking garage across the street from the hotel. The nightly rate is $50.00 and it doesnt include in/out privileges.
We drove into the city from our home in Rochester, NY and having a place to park near our accommodations was very important. We didnt need to use the car during our stay so it worked out great. I highly suggest parking your car for your stay and walking or taking other forms of transportation to get around.
