On the other hand, Rupert Grint appeared for auditions and so did Emma Watson. In Watsons case, her theatre teacher at Oxford referred her to the casting agents who were looking for someone to fit Hermionies role.

I did find a diary entry, and I can see that at times I was lonely, she said to Grint during the reunion. I think I was scared, I dont know if you ever felt like it got to a tipping point when you were like, This is kind of forever now.

Who Appears In The Harry Potter Special

Whats your most favorite Harry Potter book?? And favorite ...

When the special was announced, fans questioned whether or not J.K. Rowling, who penned the popular childrens novels, would be participating.

Rowling has been facing plenty of criticism for her controversial stance against the transgender community since last year, so she was not included with the rest of the cast. While she wasnt involved in the reunion special, it did feature clips of her talking about her experience that were filmed in 2019.

Regardless of the controversy, the cast and crew gave her credit for the world she created for them and for millions of people around the world.

The authors books started a reading craze during a time people called the death of reading. A lot of the actors, and even director Chris Columbus, were pressured to join the films by the kids who were fans of the books.

Eddie Redmayne Could Have Been Lord Voldemort

Eddie Redmayne has won Potter fans over with his amazing portrayal of magizoologist Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts films. However, not many know that he had auditioned for the role of Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

I actually auditioned to play Tom Riddle when I was back at university. I properly failed and didnt get a call back. Over the years I always hoped I might be cast as a member of the Weasley family, but unfortunately not, he toldEmpire in 2016.

Riddle, a younger version of the main villain Lord Voldemort, was played by Christian Coulson.

Academy Award winner Redmayne, on the other hand, was always the only choice of Rowling for the role of Newt. Interestingly, the name of the character first appeared on the Marauders Map in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

J.K.R. HARRY POTTER CHARACTERS, NAMES AND RELATED IN/IMDb)

‘harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince’

The sixth movie in the series sees a brilliant balance of light-hearted comedy as Ron and Harry start to discover the opposite sex with hilarious consequences, and drama as we discover more about Snape’s backstory. Tom Felton is outstanding as Malfoy as his role within the Death Eaters steps up a gear, while actor Jim Broadbent delivers a goofy Professor Slughorn to perfection.

This is also the film where Harry shares his first kiss with Ginny, and Dumbledore meets an untimely end after Snape’s shocking “betrayal”. The only thing missing is Voldermort’s back story, which stands out as some of the more important parts of J.K Rowling’s sixth book which has been oddly left out of the film.

‘harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix’

While choosing the weakest Harry Potter film wasn’t easy, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix stands out from the crowd, and not just because of the fact this is the film where Sirius Black dies . This film might be packed to the rafters with action, but it can often get viewers in a muggle… sorry, muddle, with all the different storyline strands going on.

But, while this might not be the most compelling of the films, there are plenty of redeeming factors, not only is this the film where Bellatrix Lestrange makes her grand entrance , but Harry also creates Dumbledore’s Army, teaching his friends how to fight against the Dark Arts, while the amazing Voldermort and Dumbledore duel at the Ministry of Magic leaves us wanting more. And, of course, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix also seesthe introduction of Dolores Umbridge, played to perfection by Imelda Staunton.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban ~ 65 Million Copies

Reliving the magic of the first ‘Harry Potter’ movie with director Chris Columbus – New Day NW

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third book in the Harry Potter series and often thought of as the best of the eight movies in the original WB franchise. The movie gets a lot of credit for the artistic hand Alfonso Cuaron brought to directing, and the more laid back dress and style that the actors were allowed. The book itself earns some major popularity points for introducing a number of fan-favorite characters for the first time, including Marauders Remus Lupin and Sirius Black.

Despite its popularity in word of mouth, it still falls behind it’s two older siblings in sales, having sold approximately 65 million copies of its own.

Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone 81%

Rewatching Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, its astonishing to realize how much they got right from the very beginning. I mean, casting this one couldnt have been easy. For the three leads, they needed not only talented child actors, but talented child actors who could commit to a further seven films, literally growing into their roles on a very-nearly yearly basis. Luckily, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were up to the task, serving as our guides in this utterly charming introduction to Hogwarts. Between the sumptuous design, the sweeping score and the assured adaptation of J.K. Rowlings source material, its hard to imagine a more solid foundation on which to build the series. More so than any of the films that followed, The Philosophers Stone succeeds in making magic look fun. From the visit to Ollivanders , to the Sorting Hat, to the first broomstick ride, Harrys initiation into the wizarding world is also our initiation, and we share in his sense of wonder at all of these incredible experiences, brought to life so beautifully on the big screen.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

The importance of The Prisoner of Azkaban to the Harry Potter film series cannot be overstated. This is the movie that established the creative direction and formula for the films that followed, as the series faced a crucial issue post-Chamber of Secrets. How does one adapt increasingly lengthy books into satisfying feature films? The solution: everything that is told from Harrys point of view or that directly affects his character goes in, everything else is fair game for being dropped.

But it wasnt only the POV rule that Azkaban established going forward it was also the freedom to get creativereally creative. Director Alfonso Cuaron significantly altered the look and feel of Harry Potter without completely removing what Chris Columbus had built in the prior two films, while at the same time expanding the depth of the characters and, well, getting weird. From the Knight Bus sequence to the Hogwarts choir to the Dementors, Prisoner of Azkaban is absolutely tactileyou can feel this world. And its a testament to Cuarons vision and cinematographer Michael Seresins beautiful photography that nearly every frame of film on this thing looks like a painting. The irises, the Womping Willow marking the changes of the season, the camera move through the clockthis thing is filled to the brim with unforgettable imagery.

It feels like sacrilege to put the first movie so low. The John Williams score twinkling for the first time that defining shot of Hogwarts against an inky black starry skyDiagon Alley… Yet its important to note that your memories of Harry receiving his letter are all about the first time you saw this world brought to life, not of the film itself which is distinctly average compared to what followed. Regardless though, it sets the scene for everything to come and if nothing else is two and a half hours of the promise of future excitement.

Richard Harris Dumbledore is a bittersweet joy as he welcomes the adorable Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint to their future lives as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, and the joy of experiencing Rowlings world for the first time cant be undersold. Chris Columbus direction might be plodding but the goblins of Gringotts, meeting Hagrid, learning Quidditch with the most chipper of Scots and entering the Gryffindor common room are all silver screen joy. This is a universe of so much potential that enraptures its readers and in that respect, the designers and casting professionals did everything right. Its the ultimate in magical wish fulfilment. We just wont talk about CGI Fluffy who hasnt aged particularly well…

Only British And Irish Actors Were Cast Because Rowling Wanted It

J.K. Rowling sold the rights to the first four Harry Potter books to Warner Bros. for a reported USD 2 million under one condition that only British and Irish actors would be cast in the films. However, the stipulation was not always adhered to.

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone , which was the first film, Verne Troyer of Austin Powers fame played the role of Griphook. Since Troyer was an American, his voice was dubbed by English actor Warwick Davis.

The other notable exception was Eleanor Columbus, daughter of the films American director Chris Columbus. Eleanor played Hufflepuff student Susan Bones in the first and the second films.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire , two delegations were played by actors from France and eastern Europe.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

7 Most Favorite Characters in Harry Potter Movies

At 161 minutes, Chamber of Secrets is the longest film of the franchise, and perhaps not so coincidentally its also the last film to try and fit everything from the book into the movie. Director Chris Columbus expands on the world he built so beautifully in the first film with a slightly darker and much more plot-heavy sequel, and while the film isnt bad per se, its definitely the most laborious of the bunch.

Though its certainly too long and meanders in places, theres still much to like about Chamber of Secrets. Columbus nails the realization of Dobby, toeing the fine line between mischievously funny and irritating to deliver a visually impressive and genuinely adorable CG character. Columbus also does a fine job at further defining the wizarding world with issues like the pureblood cause and Hogwarts dark past. But while Chamber of Secrets is enjoyable enough , it doesnt quite live up to the brilliance of the rest of the franchise.

The reason there are 8 Harry Potter movies in the franchise and only 7 books is due to the fact that the final book in the seriesHarry and his friends year 7 at Hogwartsis split into two movies, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2.
