They’re A Lot Like James And Lily Potter

Both Hermione and Ron share aspects of Lily and James’ personality, so it makes sense that the two would have a relationship that parallels Harry’s parents. As we all know, Ron and Hermione bicker like no one else when they’re not ready to acknowledge their feelings for each other which is something Lily and James Potter are no strangers to. Lily gets mad at James for being reckless the same way that Hermione gets mad at Ron for the same thing, and Ron brings Hermione out of her shell the same way James does for Lily.

There’s also the fact that Ron and Hermione essentially act as Harry’s chosen family over the course of the story, so they spend far more time together than just in school. This is how the Marauders were, and Lily ended up in this mix at the end of their time at Hogwarts.

If You Always Stick By Your Best Friend You Would Be Ron

If youre going to a glitzy shindig chances are youll either end up engaging in small talk with scary new people or gluing yourself to your best friend who just so happens to be with you. This is precisely what Ron did at the Yule Ball, sticking firmly by Harrys side throughout the whole night. This was of great annoyance to his date, Padma, of course, and things didnt get much better when he took out his jealousy on Hermione in a display of emotional fireworks at the end of the evening. However, were not saying you would do any of those things.

Sometimes, parties can just be a bit overwhelming, especially if the person you fancy is at the party too and attending it with someone else. Although Ron didnt handle that situation very well, at least he got to be distracted with Harry for a while, especially when they accidentally eavesdropped on quite a personal conversation between Hagrid and Madame Maxime.

She Wanted To Be His Friend First

No, we dont mean she wanted to be his friend first before dating, we mean she literally wanted to be his friend. When you read or watch Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, youll notice that Ron and Harry were never Hermiones friends until the incident with the troll.

Before that, Hermione would interject herself between these two uninvited. She wanted to be their friend, but she was so insufferably a know-it-all that Ron and Harry didnt like her much. In actuality, Hermiones perceived narcissism wasnt who she really was. And she did want desperately to be friends with Ron and Harry.

Hermione Broke Rules For Him

Ron and hermione in bed

For Ron to have gotten to blaming Hermione for her lack of faith in him, he had to earn his place on the Gryffindor team. Little did the prat know that the only reason he had the spot was because of Hermione.

Hermione broke her principles.

She was staunchly against cheating of any kind and would always lecture Ron and Harry over the slightest indication they would reveal for something of the sort. But for Rons Quidditch tryouts, Hermione used the Cunfundus curse on Rons rival Cormac.

This act not only is against school rules but also sounds like its against the law!

Laughter And Good Company

In addition to his sense of humor, Hermione enjoys Ron’s company, despite their divergent interests. They go to their first Hogsmeade weekend together, without Harry, and come back “looking like they’d both had the time of their lives.” Judging from their snippets of conversation , they enjoyed different parts of Hogsmeade, but they enjoyed them together. The usually serious Hermione allowed Ron to show her a good time while she was with him. Perhaps this is the reason that, when Hermione joins the Weasleys at Grimmauld Place well before Harry goes, and before anyone knows when Harry is expected to join them, he pictures “the pair of them having fun at the Burrow.” Perhaps this is the reason why, while she is alone with Ron waiting for Harry to arrive, she does not hear him come in.

Signs That Hermione Liked Ron From The Start

In Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

  • Hermionenoticed the dirt on Ron’s nose right at the start. Why is she looking at him that closely, then?
  • She tries to stop Ron and Harry from meeting Malfoy for the Midnight duel. Even Harry is baffled by how interfering she is. Is she already protecting Ron?
  • Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa. Hermiones help is met with Rons nasty remark about her being a total nightmare. Her tears are understandable.
  • Oooh, is that Ron and Hermione playing chess together in the common room, even though she always loses?
  • Already Ron can get away with teasing her: He put on a high voice, Oh Professor Flitwick, Im so worried, I think I got question fourteen b wrong … Oh, shut up, said Hermione, but she agreed to go and watch out for Snape.
  • When Ron is hit by the white queen in the life-sized chess game, Hermione screams. Shes not known for screaming. This is a dead giveaway.
  • In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

  • Whenever Harry is busy, Hermione and Ron spend all their time together. Sitting on stands, sitting in the common room and watching Quidditch practice…
  • When Ron starts belching slugs out his mouth, Hermione is beside herself making sure he is alright.
  • Hermione and Ron always were bickering.
  • In the film, Hermione and Ron find it too awkward to hug.
  • In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

  • First letter Harry gets before school starts and all Hermione can talk about is Ron. Rons holiday, Rons letter, Rons phone call.

    The Words Cut Into Them

Speaking of Bellatrix Lestrange, she is also part of the link that Harry and Hermione share, but it is certainly not a happy memory. Throughout their adventures they both experienced some traumatizing things, and unfortunately they have scars that will not let them forget about it.

Harrys deranged detention with Professor Umbridge resulted in her applying her unique brand of punishment with a self-harming quill which dug the words I Must Not Tell Lies into Harrys hand. In an even more harmful situation, Lestrange carved the word Mudblood into Hermiones arm in an attempt to permanently scar her with something she considered vile.

Each of these situations is one that they would like to forget, but these harmful words are etched into their memories forever.

    She Kissed Harry Before Ron

Harry & Hermione – Love Me Like You Do

The moment that all fans had been waiting for finally occurred during Deathly Hallows when Ron and Hermione shared a passionate kiss during the heat of the Battle of Hogwarts. The kiss that Ron and Hermione shared is certainly incredibly passionate, but she did technically kiss Harry before their big moment.

Prior to Harry partaking in the first task during the Tri-Wizard Tournament, Hermione becomes overwhelmed with emotion for her friend and gives him a kiss on the cheek, catching Harry by surprise.

The two kisses mean entirely different things her kiss with Harry was platonic and a gesture of luck toward her friend, while her kiss with Ron was passionate and romantic but if Ron were to have seen it, he would have likely been very upset.

Them Ending Up Together Was Rons Greatest Fear

While this whole list has detailed the connection that Harry and Hermione share, there is no denying that Hermione ended up being happy with Ron. Neither of the two of them could stand seeing the other with someone else because of how deeply they felt for each other.

As Voldemorts Horcrux revealed in The Deathly Hallows, Rons greatest fear was that Hermione loved Harry more than him and secretly wanted to be with him. Living in the shadow of The Chosen One must have been very difficult for Ron, but he eventually understood that Hermione only had eyes for him and that Harry did not want to be with her.

Thankfully it has all worked out for everyone and both Harry and Hermione are happy even though they are not together.

Jealousy: Fleur Delacour Viktor Krum And The Ugly Duckling Syndrome

Regardless of the image of Hermione presented in the movies, where she is portrayed by the beautiful Emma Watson, in canon she is not an especially pretty girl. Her strength is undeniably in her intellect rather than appearance, and she is well aware of her cerebral prowess and is quite proud of it. Nonetheless, she is not immune to the insecurities of adolescence, so she, like so many other ordinary-looking 14-year-old girls, sometimes falls prey to doubts about her own attractiveness and desirability at a time in her life when sexuality is developing and girls are expected to measure up to social standards of beauty. If you doubt that Hermione has insecurities regarding her appearance, see her reaction to Snape’s insult of “I see no difference,” on pg. 300 of GoF. In that book, the embodiment of Hermione’s insecurities arrives at Hogwarts in the form of Fleur Delacour, a tall, blue-eyed blonde who looks down her nose at Hogwarts and turns male heads wherever she goes, especially Ron’s, which causes Hermione no end of annoyance. In fact, she bristles with poorly concealed jealousy at the attention that Ron, a typical 14-year-old boy, pays to Fleur.

This scene offers some insight into the philosophy behind Hermione’s dislike of Fleur:

With this in mind, it is easy to see why Hermione is so offended by the criteria Ron uses to select a partner for the Yule Ball.

She is not comfortable talking about Viktor’s invitation in front of Ron, but she hardly notices Harry.

Hermione And Harry Would Never Have Worked

Many people think that Hermione should have ended up with Harry, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Personally, I think Harry works much better when he ends up with Ginny, and it wouldn’t have been such a big deal if he never ended up with anyone. That sounds weird since he’s spent his life alone, but Harry’s personality would have made him suited to settling down later in life. He’s been on an adventure for his whole life, and more importantly, he’s the most adaptable of the Golden Trio and does well when he’s moving around.

While Hermione was going back to school, Harry would have been tackling his Auror career and putting that before his relationship. Knowing what we know about Ron, I could see him making sure he had a balance in his life, so he could prioritize his career and his relationship. On top of that, Hermione dated Krum, another famous guy, and that seemed annoying enough for her , so she wouldn’t do that again and would go for someone closer to home.

Meanwhile, Ginny’s lack of romantic dramatics makes her a perfect match for Harry because she anchors him. Hermione doesn’t do that for anyone but Ron.

One Of His Greatest Fears Was Hermione Preferring Harry

    Do you like Romione?

Rons self-esteem issues were such that he would always doubt his place in other peoples hearts. For one, his greatest fear was his mother loving Harry more than him to add to that, Rons equally great fear was the girl he loved preferring Harry.

Hermione never gave any indication that she liked Harry that way, but Rons insecurity was such that he misinterpreted their brother-sister relationship to one that was romantic. Rons fear was shown by Voldemorts horcrux, and he was brave enough to overcome it at that point.

She Became Godmother To Harrys Oldest Child

The epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows gives us an indication of what happened to our favorite wizards and witches after their adventures at Hogwarts. With the craziness behind them, they all settle down into a quiet family life.

Out of all the things that Rowling has revealed about Harry Potters life following his exploits at Hogwarts, one of the most heart-warming is that he named Hermione as the godmother to his first-born child, James Sirius Potter.

Due to Harrys own relationship with his godfather Sirius Black, the title of godparent certainly means a lot to him.

It should not be taken lightly that he gave Hermione this honor. Hermione is undoubtedly the smartest and most responsible person that he has ever met, so this likely made her a shoe-in for the role.

    They Have Completely Opposite Personalities

The Harry Potter books and movies quickly establish that Ron and Hermione don’t have much in common – form their backgrounds to their interests. Not only that, but the two have entirely different personalities.

Hermione is serious and studious. Ron is goofy and hates to study.

Hermione has ambitions that go beyond her time at Hogwarts. Ron has no idea what he wants to do when he grows up.

Although some fans might argue that this is a case of opposites attracting, it is not a good example of what to base a long-term romantic relationship on. As seen in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, these are still issues with the couple today.

Hermione buys a cat named Crookshanks, who takes to chasing Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers. Before the start of term, Professor McGonagall secretly gives Hermione a Time-Turner, a device which enables her to go back in time and handle her heavy class schedule, though this is not revealed until the penultimate chapter. Much tension comes into play between Hermione and her two best friends Harry is furious with her because she told McGonagall that he had received a Firebolt, which was confiscated to be inspected for traces of dark magic. Ron is angry because he feels Crookshanks is responsible for Scabbers’ disappearance, while Hermione fiercely maintains that Crookshanks is innocent.

While filling in for Remus Lupin in one Defence Against the Dark Arts class, Snape labels Hermione “an insufferable know-it-all” and penalises Gryffindor after she speaks out of turn in her attempt to describe a werewolf when no one else does. She correctly deduces Lupin’s secret after completing Snape’s homework assignment from the class. Crookshanks proves vital in exposing Scabbers as Peter Pettigrew, an erstwhile friend of James and Lily Potter, who revealed their whereabouts to Lord Voldemort the night of their murders, and was able to wrongly implicate Sirius Black in the Potters’ deaths. The Time-Turner enables Hermione and Harry to rescue Sirius and the hippogriff Buckbeak.

    Their Pets Hate Each Other

Harry Potter/ Ron and Hermione/ Love

Hermione has a cat, Crookshanks. Ron has a hand-me-down rat named Scabbers. These critters are more than pets, though, they are familiar, animals that every witch and wizard have on hand to help them with their magical work.

And Crookshanks and Scabbers hated each other. Sure, that’s natural for a cat and rat, but Crookshanks had an extra reason for hating Ron’s rat. Ron’s rat was a traitor and was actually Peter Pettigrew, who was helping Voldemort all along. How could Ron not know that?

Instead, Ron just complained about Crookshanks being mean because Ron couldn’t see the very thing that was under his nose.

They Have Different Ambitions In Life

Hermione is very ambitious and has a very good idea of what she wants to do with her life. This is a personality trait that she carries through all of the Harry Potter franchise, right up until the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

In the play, Hermione has become the Minister of Magic.

Meanwhile, in the play, Ron hasn’t done much of anything with his life – reflective of his unclear ambitions when he was at Hogwarts. His job is managing his brothers’ joke shop.

Sure, opposites attract, but it would have been nice if Hermione’s ambition had inspired Ron.

Harry Defended Hermione From Cho Chang

Cho Chang first caught Harrys eye in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and his feelings for her would only continue to grow over the years, culminating in the two of them going on a date during Order of the Phoenix.

Unfortunately, during Harrys one and only date with Cho, she began to show jealousy towards his relationship with Hermione and made the assumption that they were romantically involved and even went as far as to insult her.

Harry was quick to defend his friend from Chos insults, which put a strain on their relationship.

While Harry and Hermione have never been romantically involved, that has not stopped many others from assuming that they two of them are together.

Ron Didnt Ask Hermione To The Yule Ball

Ron and Harry struggle greatly to find dates for the Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The Yule Ball is a school-wide event.

Everyone is looking for a date. Hermione, as Rons friend, should have been the first person he asked to go with him to the ball. Without romantic relationships at that point, it would have made perfect sense for Ron and Hermione to go together, just as friends, to the celebration. It makes no sense that it took so long for Ron to even remember that Hermione was a girl.
