His Own Worst Enemy: Harry As A Horcrux

Why Did Voldemort HAVE to Kill the Potters? – Harry Potter Explained

His Own Worst Enemy: Harry as a Horcrux

“Unless I’m much mistaken, he transferred some of his own powers to you the night he gave you that scar, Not something he intended to do, I’m sure…”

“Voldemort put a bit of himself in me?” Harry said, thunderstruck.

“It certainly seems so.” 1

Well, that pretty much clears it up for me. Dumbledore thinks Voldemort put a bit of himself into Harry. This tells me that Harry is a Horcrux and an unintentional one at that. Although this clears it up for me, however, there are many legitimate questions that those, who do not agree with this theory, pose. A few that come to mind are “Are you nuts, where’s your proof?!” “You can’t make a Horcrux by accident, so how is it possible to make an unintentional Horcrux?” Possibly, the most significant of these questions is, “If Harry is a Horcrux he has to destroy himself. How can he do that and be alive to kill Voldemort?” In this essay I will attempt to answer each of these questions in turn, provide evidence that Harry is a Horcrux, and with a little speculation, try to reconstruct the events that resulted in his becoming one.

Are you nuts, where’s your proof?!

In regards to that first part, yes as a matter of fact I’m mad as a hatter, thank you very much. As to the second part of the question I cannot claim to have proof otherwise the Harrycrux debate would not exist. I can, however, explore what I believe to be strong evidence.

The Proof is in the Prophecy:

Everyone You Didnt Realise Was Connected To Voldemorts Horcruxes

Oct 02, 2021 The histories of Voldemorts Horcruxes are long and complex, After opening the Chamber of Secrets, he used the Basilisk to kill Myrtle Warren, Harry destroyed the diary with a Basilisk fang then used its remains to Though not a true Horcrux, Quirrell did temporarily contain part of Voldemorts soul.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

In the second instalment, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Rowling introduces Tom Marvolo Riddle, a manifestation of a teenage Voldemort that resides inside a magical diary found by Ginny Weasley. In this book, Ginny is written as a shy girl with a crush on Harry. Feeling anxious and lonely, she begins to write into the diary and shares her deepest fears with the sympathetic Tom. However, at the climax of the story, when Riddle rearranges the letters in his name to write “I am Lord Voldemort”, Riddle is revealed as a magical manifestation of the boy who would later grow up to become the Dark Lord. Riddle states he has grown strong on Ginny’s fears and eventually possesses her, using her as a pawn to unlock the Chamber of Secrets, whence a basilisk is set free and petrifies several Hogwarts students. Harry defeats the manifestation of Riddle from the diary and the basilisk. In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Albus Dumbledore reveals to Harry that the diary was one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes.

This may well be because Lily and James were some of Dumbledores most powerful and avid supporters as well as integral members of the Order of the Phoenix. So the biggest threat to V-Voldemort and his Order.

But why go through all the motions of murdering an entire family, even though they are cooped up in a hidden house and posing no immediate danger?

Edit:I wrote this just after reading that Neville broke the prophecy. So I thought it might never be answered, which is why I asked the question.I now know the full reason.

  • 1I just wanted to point out the irony: the parents of Neville were Aurors and had defied Voldemort thrice as well. Now guess at the end of which month Neville was born: July. By going after Harry, Voldemort fulfilled the Prophecy with Harry as adversary, but Neville would have been in Harrys place had Voldemort tried to kill Neville.Feb 21 14 at 12:27

  • One word The Prophecy

There was this prophecy:

Sybill Trelawneys first prophecy, sometimes simply known as The Prophecy, refers to the prophecy made by Sybill Trelawney to Albus Dumbledore at the Hogs Head Pub in 1980. It referred to a boy born at the end of July, who has the power to defeat Lord Voldemort and Lord Voldemort himself.

Here is the exact prophecy:

Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone

Professor QuirrellHarry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Voldemort makes his debut in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. In this story, Rowling introduces him as the Dark Lord who tried to kill Harry Potter because the boy was prophesied to destroy him. Voldemort murdered Harry’s parents, James and Lily, but as a result of his mother’s love and willingness to sacrifice herself for him, baby Harry survived when Voldemort tried to murder him with a Killing Curse. Voldemort was disembodied, and Harry was left with a mysterious, lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead as a result.

In the book, Voldemort unsuccessfully tries to regain his dissolved body by stealing the titular Philosopher’s Stone. To achieve his objective, Voldemort uses Professor Quirrell’s aid by latching onto the back of the latter’s head. However, at the climax of the book, Harry manages to prevent Voldemort from stealing the stone.

The Only Problem With Voldemort Having Sex Voldemort Never Loved Anyone

Time and time again, J.K. Rowling has said that Voldemort can not love. He loved only power, and himself, the Harry Potter author said in the aforementioned 2007 web chat. He valued people whom he could use to advance his own objectives.

And sure, one could argue that Voldemort only had sex because he wanted to be in power, but would the Dark Lord ever bring himself to a human level by being so intimate with someone, ever? Can we believe that Voldemort had a moment of weakness? Can we believe he succumbed to the temptations of sex? It seems very unlike him.

But Not As Strong As He’d Like To Be

Like Dumbledore, Voldemort seems to know a great deal more than most people in this novel. But Voldemort’s performance of all-knowing superiority is a lot less successful than Dumbledore’s. Voldemort may like to bully people, but that doesn’t mean he’s actually as strong as he pretends to be. We get to see the cracks in his façade when Harry and Voldemort’s wands meet. Voldemort’s “red eyes wide with astonishment” when the Priori Incantatem starts, and Voldemort even looks “astonished, and almost fearful” as the ghosts of his victims begin to come out of his wand. Voldemort has weaknesses, even if Harry doesn’t know exactly what they are yet.Something else that neither Harry nor Voldemort seem entirely to understand though Voldemort catches on quick in Book 5 is the curse scar. Harry’s lightning bolt-shaped scar is what connects him psychically to Voldemort. Whenever Voldemort is feeling especially angry, Harry gets flashes of it, as when Voldemort murders Frank Bryce and when he casts the Cruciatus Curse on Wormtail. So, through Harry, we can get signs of how Voldemort behaves in his off hours when he’s just hanging out, and it’s not a pretty picture.

Lord Voldemorts Happy Ending

Why Voldemort Didn’t Kill Harry Immediately In The Graveyard

May 31, 2021

When I was discussing Voldemort with my friend Britney Marler, an interesting question came up: What does Voldemort want? It was one of those questions that was so obvious that no one has thought to ask it in the last 12 years, and I was momentarily dumbfounded.

Voldemorts short-term goals are well defined: Killing Harry and achieving immortality. The former is a means to the latter. Voldemort needs to kill Harry for two reasons. First, Voldemort believes in the prophecy and needs to eliminate the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord . Second, Voldemort has the mother of all PR problems with Harry the kid keeps defeating him, which is awful for his whole unbeatable and most powerful image.

As I briefly discussed in my essay Revenge Part I: The Missing Message, the conflict between Harry and Voldemort is surprisingly not personal. Harry is more motivated by the desire to stop Voldemort from committing further atrocities than by a need to avenge past ones. Similarly, I get the sense that Voldemort only continues chasing Harry because of the aforementioned reasons. Killing Harry is not what Voldemort wants to do its just something that he needs to do to help him achieve his primary objective.

But let us assume that Voldemort has killed Harry and become immortal with his seven fancy Horcruxes. Now what?

Why Did Voldemort Kill Harry Potters Parents

We know Voldemort dedicated his life to killing a simple boy, Harry Potter. And he wasnt opposed to killing others either. But Voldemort didnt like to kill witches and wizards and called it unnecessary. So why did he kill Lily and James Potter if James was a pure-blood wizard which Voldemort appreciated? The answer is simple.

Voldemort actually wanted to kill Harry Potter because of a prophecy that claimed there was a boy whose powers will be the end of Voldemort. Voldemort was certain it was about Harry since they shared a similar past and was convinced he was his mortal enemy and his parents got in the way. So Voldemort had to kill them to get to Harry.

How were Harrys parents involved in this whole mess of a war and what was Voldemorts reasoning behind killing them? Keep reading to learn the full story of Lily and James tragic ending.

Why Did Harry Survive Voldemorts Curse In The First Place

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Every Harry Potter fan knows why Harry survived the first time Voldemort tried to kill him. Its all thanks to his mothers love. Yet that protection wore off once Harry reached the age of 17, which he had by the time he met Voldemort in the forest.

This time things are more complicated. His mothers protection does play a role, which well get into later. For now, all you need to know is that it had supposedly worn off when Harry met Voldemort again since he had reached the age of maturity in the Wizarding World and was no longer living with his Muggle aunt and uncle.

One of the complicated reasons why Harry survived has to do with the Elder Wand. Though Voldemort had the wand at the time, Harry was its true master. Therefore the wand wouldnt allow Voldemort to kill Harry. When Voldemort tried, he instead destroyed the Horcrux that he never intended to make in Harry.

Dolores Umbridge Betrayed Her Own Family

Why Didn

J.K. Rowling, who penned the original Harry Potter book series, was pretty clear about why she created the character of Umbridge in the first place: she didnt want the concept of evil to be entirely black and white. She expresses this through Sirius Black , who, during Harrys fifth year, tells his godson that the world isnt simply divided into totally good people and nefarious Death Eaters making it clear that bad people can also work for seemingly virtuous causes like the Ministry of Magic.

In an essay on Wizarding World, Rowling relays how Umbridge turned on her own family in order to succeed within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement she hated her father because of his lack of ambition within the Ministry and ultimately got him fired, and lied about her Muggle mother to assume pure-blood status. As Rowling tells it, anybody who asked about Umbridges family would end up experiencing some kind of accident or misfortune, showing the lengths Umbridge would go to in order to cover up her real lineage or the fact that her father was a Ministry janitor.

He Didnt Figure Out Harry Was A Horcrux

Albus Dumbledore is undoubtedly a genius and one of the greatest wizards who has ever lived. And although its hard to admit, the same could be said about Lord Voldemort. So why exactly didnt Voldemort seem to figure out that Harry was a Horcrux, even though Dumbledore himself did?

There really isnt anyone in the world alive who is more of a Horcrux expert than Voldemort is, so why didnt he ever even suspect that Harry may have been a Horcrux? Ironically, if Voldemort had figured that out and not tried to kill Harry he may have survived longer.

He wanted the prophecy so that he could know fully what it said, in case it held any information that would have helped him. Why It Angered Voldemort To Kill Snape

Voldemort does not appear in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, although his presence and actions are felt: he once again declares war, and begins to rise to power once more. He murders Amelia Bones of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and begins to target members of the Order of the Phoenix, including Emmeline Vance.

Rowling uses several chapters as exposition to establish Voldemort’s backstory. In a series of flashbacks, using the pensieve as a plot device, she reveals that Voldemort was the son of the witch Merope Gaunt and a Muggle called Tom Riddle. Riddle abandoned Merope before their child’s birth, soon after which Merope died. After living in an orphanage, young Riddle met Dumbledore, who told him he was a wizard and arranged for him to attend Hogwarts. Riddle was outwardly a model student, but was in reality a psychopath who took sadistic pleasure in using his powers to harm and control people. He eventually murdered his father and grandparents as revenge for abandoning him. The book also discusses Riddle’s hatred of Muggles, his obsession with Horcruxes, and his desire to split his soul to achieve immortality. Rowling stated Voldemort’s conception under the influence of a love potion symbolises the coercive circumstances under which he was brought into the world.

What Was Draco Malfoys Patronus

J.K. Rowling says Draco doesnt have a patronus because he never learned the spell but I think its because he doesnt have any powerful happy memories to use. For Umbridge it was necessary to learn to cast a Patronus as she works in the Ministry. Remember: the Ministry worked with Dementors at that time.

But What About Those Wings

In the play, Delphi has a pair of wings that are concealed until the end of the story, when she flies in the air above the others. Its the same pair of wings seen on the cover of the script book.

This part cant be explained in canon save for the fact that Voldemort is capable of flying. Obviously he didnt have wings, but we think the playmakers added them for a dramatic effect on the stage.
