How Hermione Granger Is Portrayed In ‘harry Potter & The Cursed Child’ Is Offensive To The Fans & The Character
Like most people with two eyes and a heart, the first thing that I did on July 31 was stay up all night reading the script of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I’m far too poor to hop a flight to London to watch the play, so reading it was the next best thing. However, Hermione Granger’s plot in Cursed Child went from good to horrific to good again in one sharp swerve that was totally unnecessary. Essentially, one memorable section of the play implies that Hermione would be a bitter shrew without Ron, because his affection was the only thing keeping her from devolving into abusive behavior and giving up on her dreams. No, really.
Spoilers ahead. When Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy use a stolen time-turner to go back in time and prevent Cedric Diggory from passing the First Task so he won’t die in the Triwizard Tournament, their use of Durmstrang uniforms as disguises cause Hermione to become suspicious of the school as a whole. For that reason, she never goes with Viktor Krum to the Yule Ball, Ron never sees her there with Viktor and gets jealous enough to realize he has feelings for her, and Romione never happens. Instead, Ron eventually marries Padma Patil, his Yule Ball date in the original timeline, and Hermione becomes a bitter, hateful Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher who is still in love with Ron and treats her students even worse than Severus Snape ever treated his own.

Emma Watson who played the role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series went to watch the play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London, on Wednesday and came out feeling amazed. The actress was as mesmerised by Noma Dumezweni as Potterheads have been by her all these years.
I came in with no idea what to expect and it was AMAZING. Some things about the play were, I think, possibly even more beautiful than the films. Having seen it I felt more connected to Hermione and the stories than I have since Deathly Hallows came out, which was such a gift, she wrote in her post.
Watson couldnt help but shower praises for Noma Dumezweni, the theatre actress who played Hermione on stage. On social media, she even shared a few pictures she had clicked with the cast and crew.

Speaking to Variety, Columbus said he would love to work on a movie adaptation of The Cursed Child, a 2016 Harry Potter play that takes place 19 years after the final book in the series ends.
“I would love to direct ‘The Cursed Child,'” Columbus said. “Its a great play and the kids are actually the right age to play those roles. Its a small fantasy of mine.”
Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint are all in their early 30s, making them about the right age to play Harry, Ron, and Hermione on the big screen once again for this story. The Cursed Child focuses on Harry and Draco Malfoy’s children, with the original heroes serving as supporting characters. The play was a big hit on Broadway, setting records when it opened in 2018.

Columbus directed 2001’s The Sorcerer’s Stone and 2002’s sequel, The Chamber of Secrets. He also served as producer on Prisoner of Azkaban. David Yates took over directing duties for the final four Harry Potter movies, and also directed the first two Fantastic Beasts movies.
Yates is next helming The Secrets of Dumbledore, the third movie in the Fantastic Beasts spinoff series set to be released next year.

Ron, Hermione, and their daughter, Rose, are the stars of a brand new first look from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the upcoming stage play and eighth Harry Potter story, which picks up right after the epilogue of Deathly Hallows. A first look at Harry, Ginny, and their son Albus was revealed on Pottermore on Tuesday.
Paul Thornley and Noma Dumezweni beam proudly in the family portrait as Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger who, as may come as news to fans, has kept her last name alongside their daughter, Rose Granger-Weasley, played by young Cherrelle Skeete.
As with the Potter family first look, the Pottermore reveal of the Granger-Weasley clan comes with its share of juicy quotes from the actors and J.K. Rowling about the characters.
Skeete unveiled a few key points about Rose: Rose is ambitious, obviously her mum is Hermione so shes got a lot to live up to. I think theyre quite similar in the fact they put a lot of pressure on themselves. And she just wants to do the right thing.

Born in Swaziland to South African parents, Dumezweni lived in Botswana, Kenya and Uganda. She arrived in England as a refugee on 17 May 1977 with her sister and mother. She first lived in Felixstowe, Suffolk, where she was educated, before moving to London. She has a daughter, Qeiva, born in 2007.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a 2016 British two-part play written by Jack Thorne based on an original story by J. K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Thorne.Previews of the play began at the Palace Theatre, London, on 7 June 2016, and it premiered on 30 July 2016. The play opened on Broadway on 21 April 2018 at the Lyric Theatre, with previews starting on 16 March 2018. Here we see Harrys two best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in full costume with their daughter Rose Granger-Weasley, who will be played by actress Cherrelle Skeete.
Its 19 years later when the play begins, Paul explained. Ron is married to Hermione Granger and theyre now the Granger-Weasleys. Our magnificent daughter Rose Granger-Weasley is about to start at Hogwarts, which is obviously a big day for everyone.
A very big day indeed, and a very big job for Cherrelle Skeete, shown here in Roses brand new Hogwarts uniform. Cherrelle has previously appeared in productions of The Lion King and Wind in the Willows, as well as television series and Danny and the Human Zoo which coincidentally, starred Harry Potter actors Evanna Lynch, and James and Oliver Phelps.

Both parts of the stage play’s script have been released in print and digital formats as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II.
The first edition, the Special Rehearsal Edition, corresponded to the script used in the preview shows and was published on 31 July 2016, the date of Harry’s birthday in the series and Rowling’s birthday, as well. Since revisions to the script continued after the book was printed, an edited version was released on 25 July 2017, as the “Definitive Collector’s Edition”. According to CNN, this was the most preordered book of 2016.

JK Rowling has revealed her frustration at online reaction by a bunch of racists to news that the role of Hermione will be played by a black actress in the eagerly awaited new play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
The production, which has broken records by selling 175,000 tickets in 24 hours, is tipped to be the theatrical event of the year. But the Harry Potter creator criticised those who have suggested that Hogwarts studious heroine could not be played by the Olivier-award-winning actress Noma Dumezweni.
With my experience of social media, I thought that idiots were going to idiot, she said in an interview with the Observer. But what can you say? Thats the way the world is. Noma was chosen because she was the best actress for the job.
While the vast majority of people responded positively to the casting decision, Rowling said: I had a bunch of racists telling me that because Hermione turned white that is, lost colour from her face after a shock that she must be a white woman, which I have a great deal of difficulty with. But I decided not to get too agitated about it and simply state quite firmly that Hermione can be a black woman with my absolute blessing and enthusiasm.
Dumezweni was cast by the plays director, John Tiffany known for the productions Black Watch and the musical Once who has collaborated with Rowling and the playwright Jack Thorne, writer of This Is England and The Last Panthers.
