Harry Potter And His Powers

The Entire Life of Percy Weasley (Harry Potter Explained)

Magic is a supernatural force that affects the world on a fundamental level. Humans ability to use magic is an inherited trait passed down from their forefathers, allowing witches and wizards to practice it.

Magic, rather than being a mystical or unnatural pursuit that defied natures rules, merely allowed those who could wield it to exploit them in very particular and imaginative ways that Muggle science could not replicate.

While it is possible to make things out of nothing and duplicate objects, it is much more difficult to produce something that meets a particular specification rather than a broad one.

Furthermore, a magically imitated object would never be as real as the actual one, with duplicated meals being less satisfying than the real thing.

It is almost impossible to become fully immortal, only to expand ones lifespan by strong magical means, such as the Philosophers Stone. It is therefore difficult to revive the dead.

Harry had been noticed and had proved himself to be a very formidable and gifted wizard. His ability was obvious from the start: he proved the instant charge of a broomstick and was able to summon a corporeal Patronus at an unusually early age.

He had many run-ins with Lord Voldemort. He also perfected his skill using a hawthorn wand, that should only be placed in the hand of a witch or wizard of proved skill.

Harry also had a strong inclination for what was right, particularly in challenging and emotional circumstances.

Percy Starts Working At The Ministry For Magic

Percyâs first job at the Ministry of Magic was in the Department of International Magical Co-Operation under Bartemius Crouch Snr. His attention to detail and perfectionism were clear in his work, such as his assignment to write a dull report on standardizing the thickness of cauldrons.

When he became aware of the Ministryâs plan to hold the Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts, he teased his siblings that he knew something important and exciting. But he revealed nothing.

Two weeks before the Quidditch World Cup he passed his Apparition test and irritated his family by Apparating downstairs to breakfast every morning. It also meant that he could Apparate to attend the Quidditch World Cup with the rest of his family.

Percy was very embarrassed when Mr Crouch called him Weatherby in front of his family, revealing that his role within the department was not as important as he had implied. Nevertheless, he helped Ministry officials and his brothers deal with the Death Eater display, receiving a bloody nose in the process.

The public was very angry following these events, and Percy had to deal with letters of complaint, including a large number of Howlers.

The Truth About Percy Weasley

Percy Weasley is a character whom you either love or hate. He has many disagreeable character traits, but he is part of the Weasley family whom we all cherish. Over the span of the seven books, Percy goes from being Rons irritating older brother to being utterly infuriating in his quest for power. Considering all this, I have often wondered whether the Weasley family was too quick to forgive his deplorable behavior.

Percy has always seemed to be at odds with his family he clearly does love and care about his family, but he resents his fathers lack of ambition. Although he doesnt seem to be fond of public displays of affection or affirmation, we see a crack in Percys exterior in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. As Ron emerges from the lake after the second task of the Triwizard Tournament, Madam Pomfrey has to rescue Ron from Percys grip, and he is described as looking very white and somehow much younger than usual. This act seems very out of character for Percy but goes to prove in the end that he does love and care about his younger brother.

From the very beginning of the series, we had been aware of Rons embarrassment regarding his familys financial situation. However, we rarely saw Ron address this, let alone blame his parents for it. In a stark contrast to this, Percy shouts at his father

Five Things You Should Know About Percy Weasley

Ah, Percy Weasley. Prefect. Head Boy. The middle Weasley brother. Perhaps the least favorite Weasley? But he came right in the end and has a place in everyones hearts, so really, thats all that matters. And everyone loves Percy, really. Right?

Plus, Percy provides us with some great comic moments and is at the center of a rather wonderful family reunion toward the end of the series.

Love him or hate him, here are some things you should know about Percy and some of our favorite Percy moments.

1. It is Percys old rat that Ron is given in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. Percy is given an owl by Mr. Weasley because he becomes a prefect. If Percy hadnt been a prefect, then perhaps Ron would have never been given Scabbers and what would have happened to Peter Pettigrew then?

2. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Percy is made Head Boy, which he is very smug about, and his Head Boy badge can be seen in the picture from the Daily Prophet that Ron sends Harry from Egypt. He is the second Head Boy in the family.

3. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Percy spends a lot of time working and shouting at the others for being too noisy because he is working for the Ministry. He takes his job very seriously. At one point, he is working on a report on cauldron bottoms. We soon find out that Percys boss, Mr. Crouch, doesnt even know his name and calls him Weatherby instead.

Relationships With Other Characters

Percy Weasley (Scopatore)

Percy Weasley’s pompous and arrogant behavior often allowed for criticism and taunts. However, he did manage to get a girlfriend during his 6th year, Penelope Clearwater. Though details are few, he did spend the summer of 1992 in his room, writing to Penelope. His affection for her was reiterated when she was petrified by the Basilisk, when he showed deep shock.

Towards his superiors in the Ministry, Percy is almost fawning, rushing to get a cup of tea for Bartemius Crouch, despite Crouch not even correctly recalling his name, and sycophantically praising each utterance from Fudge. Percy seems to be the typical bureaucratic yes-man, destined to remain forever an underling, though perhaps ending up as second fiddle to the top man, in this case the Minister for Magic. We believe this is meant to indicate Percy’s ambition, and perhaps illustrate also the shallowness of his character, as he climbs the career ladder at the Ministry in the only way he knows.

Misunderstood: No One Explained The Order’s Motives To Him

In Percys defense, he didnt really know of the heroic sacrifices made by the Order of the Phoenix members, as nobody ever explained it to him. From his point of view, he arrived one day at home and was told the Ministry was evil and to ditch all his hard work to get to his position.

Percy didnt get informed about the Order or what it entailed and Rons explanation to Harry made it clear that Percy was simply expected to follow along rather than be told what was happening. Its understandable why he reacted with such cynicism when he was never really looped in.

Lockwood & Co By Jonathan Stroud

Ghosts have taken over England, but only young people can see and eradicate them in Jonathan Strouds five-book Lockwood and Co. series. Narrated by 15-year-old Lucy Carlyle, these action-packed books have all the humor and heart of the Harry Potter series, and a good deal of the mystery and suspense as well.

Older middle school kids and young adults love Lockwood and Co., as do many adult readers. I had no clue this wasnt an adult series, but I was hooked and didnt care, writes on reviewer on Amazon. And like Harry Potter, this series is no less delightful just because it was written with a younger reader in mind, raves another reader.

In order, the five books of the Lockwood and Co. series are The Screaming Staircase, The Whispering Skull, The Hollow Boy, The Creeping Shadow, and The Empty Grave. Stroud has also written a short story in the Lockwood and Co. series, The Dagger in the Desk, which is available for free on Kindle.

Chris Rankin as Percy Weasley in Harry Potter (All Percy Scenes)

Percy was the third child of Arthur and Molly Weasley, born after Bill and Charlie, and before the twins Fred and George, Ron, and Ginny. He was born at the height of the First Wizarding War. This would have had a significant influence on his upbringing. His two maternal uncles were killed by Death Eaters.

Order Of The Phoenix Members

Arthur had a good relationship with most members of the Order of the Phoenix. Arthur was not an official member of the first order, but he became during the Second Wizarding War.

He seemed to know Sirius Black since the First Wizarding War. After the war, Sirius was imprisoned in Azkaban for betraying the Potters to Voldemort and killing twelve Muggles. In fact, Peter Pettigrew had committed the crimes and blamed Sirius. Arthur believed that when Sirius escaped from the prison, he wanted to kill Harry Potter. He told Harry not to try to find Sirius, as he knew that Harry would learn about Sirius’s crimes. Harry, Ron, and Hermione learned the truth in 1994, and Pettigrew escaped again. Arthur and Sirius became friendly in the second Order. They lived in the same house for a short time Sirius also tried to comfort Arthur’s children when Arthur was bitten by Nagini. Sirius was killed by his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange, during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Arthur’s first reaction is unknown he only tried not to talk about Sirius in front of Harry, knowing how that would make the boy feel. Arthur and Sirius were also distant relatives, through Arthur’s mother.

Arthur seemed to like his daughter-in-law, Fleur Delacour. Unlike his wife and daughter, Arthur did not dislike her after the war, Arthur had three grandchildren through Fleur.

Many members of the Order were killed during battles, in both wars Arthur was one the very few remaining ones.

Percy Weasley Personality Type & Traits

Percy grew up as a very serious young man, perhaps to counter the chaotic behavior of some of his other siblings. He was very serious about his goals and dedicated himself to achieving them. Percy was also very certain and outspoken in his opinions. He took himself very seriously, which made it easy for his brothers to make fun of him.

Percyâs ambition is probably what caused him to turn his back on his family and align himself with the Ministry for Magic. But a Gryffindor at heart, he found his way back to them.

Pennyroyal Academy By Ma Larson

Was Percy Weasley a Good or Bad Character?

The Pennyroyal Academy series are books like Harry Potter but set in a classic fairy tale world. Instead of Hogwarts, the characters in this three-book series attend Pennyroyal Academy, where they learn to become knights and princesses under the direction of instructors Fairy Drillsergeant and Rumpledshirtsleeves. The Pennyroyal Academy books combines adventure, magical mischief, and humor to create an unforgettable fantasy world where a young girl named Evie and her friends battle dragons and witches. Its appropriate for middle-grade readers looking for books similar to Harry Potter. It is a breathtakingly exciting novel, and Evie deserves a special place in the new pantheon of capable, feisty and, yes, admirable literary princesses, raves The New York Times.

The first book, Pennyroyal Academy, is followed by two sequels: The Shadow Cadets of Pennyroyal Academy and The Warrior Princess of Pennyroyal Academy.

In Defence Of Percy Weasley

For many years, Percy was seen as the rather pompous but ultimately harmless older brother of Ron, Fred and George. But, as Voldemort started to take power, Percy ended up siding with his beloved Ministry over his own family.

Percy wasnt a bad person and didnt have any desire to join the Dark Side, he was just easily impressed by power and status. He came from a family who werent particularly well-off, and had hand-me-downs throughout his life. Although his father worked at the Ministry, the job wasnt well-paid and, due to the nature of his personality, he didnt command the same level of respect as some of his colleagues. Its easy to see why Percy would aspire to be something more, and he wasnt the only Weasley that felt their family status and comparative wealth quite keenly. Ron was often dispirited by the familys lack of funds, becoming jealous of Harrys fame and gold on numerous occasions. Percy dealt with this feeling in a different way, channelling his energies into his ambition.

Unlike Fred and George, Percy always put a lot of faith in authority. He seemed to think that those in senior positions were untouchable. When Penelope Clearwater was attacked by the Basilisk, Percy was visibly distressed, causing George to observe: I dont think he thought the monster would dare attack a Prefect.

Although not involved with the homage, the wizarding world stills runs deep in Rankin’s veins – he is currently on tour across Europe with a full orchestra presenting The Magical Music of Harry Potter. The concert comes to the UK in December at 10 venues including Blackpool, Croydon, Ipswich, Sheffield and Liverpool.

“I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say Potter changed, shaped, my life – it’s crazy. If you’d have asked me 20 years ago if I thought I’d still be talking about Harry Potter on a daily basis I think I would have laughed in your face,” he said.

“I’m literally sharing my memories of that first film, the first time we were on set together, to crowds of people all around the place – I’m very lucky.”

Worst: Not Admitting That He Was Wrong

Percy Weasley being a prefect for 2 minutes

After finding out that Harry had been telling the truth about Voldemort for a year and that he had wrongly sided with Fudge, Percy still didnt make amends with his family. It was implied that he didnt do so out of shame, but thats not really an excuse.

After all, there really wasnt any reason left for Percy to consider his family to be in the wrong, not when they had been proven to be right all along. This comes down to Percys extreme pride, which left his family feeling estranged and resentful toward him.
