In the Universal Studios vs. Islands of Adventure debate, one thing is clear both theme parks are fundamentally similar to each other. They both highlight many of the most popular Universal properties, with a mix of rides and areas designed for guests of all ages.
Thematically, Islands of Adventure has more fantasy areas, like Superhero Island and Jurassic Park. The main Universal Studios has areas like New York and San Francisco with rides based on more modern, real-world franchises.
Theres plenty of crossovers literally. In the case of the Wizarding World, the area spans both parks but Islands of Adventure may appeal to children better than the main park because it has more franchises theyre likely to be familiar with.
Harry Potter And The Escape Of Gringotts
This one of a kind indoor rollercoaster is themed exactly like the Gringotts wizarding bank found in the books and movies. Opening in 2014 it quickly became one of the most popular attractions in Universal Studios. On the downside because it is so popular it tends to have one of the longest wait times in the parks.

What Is Early Park Admission
Guests with Early Park Admission have the benefit of entering either Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure and, additionally, Volcano Bay an hour before the parks open to the general public. For most of the year, this early-entry period at the theme parks starts at 8:00 am, meaning everyone else will be allowed in around 9:00 am. During the busier seasons, Universal may open one or more of the parks an hour before that, with EPA starting at 7:00 am and allowing other guests in at 8:00. And during the peak season, Universal may opt to have EPA at both theme parks simultaneously.
Even with Early Park Admission, we recommend arriving at the turnstiles 30 minutes before the gates open, although you may want to get there 45 minutes or a full hour beforehand if youre heading to one of the most popular rides or if youre visiting during a busy period.

Visit the Night Bus
The Night Bus and wizard driver Stan Shunpike are outside of the Wizarding Worlds Diagon Alley on your way back into the rest of Universal Islands of Adventure. Stopping by for a photo op is well worth a few minutes. The driver and his little friend, Dre Head the Shrunken Head, were a lot of fun to talk to.

Leaky Cauldron
Fashioned after the pub and inn from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Leaky Cauldron is Diagon Alleys only table-service dining option. You can order traditional British fare such as bangers and mash, fish and chips, and a full English breakfast. Dont worry, there are also plenty of picky-eater-approved options like pancakes and macaroni and cheese. To save time, place a mobile food order before you arrive at the restaurant. When you arrive, your server will find you a table and fill your order.

The park offers free lockers for use during the ride, but there are a few things you should know. First, the lockers are fairly smallso only bring a small backpack or purse with you to the park. Second, the lines to use the lockers can be long and the area around them crowded. If you can avoid bringing a backpack to the park, youll save yourself some time and hassle.
Is Universal Studios Or Islands Of Adventure Better For Kids
Overall, we think that the Islands of Adventure are a little better for kids. There are more kid-friendly rides, and both the shopping and eating options will probably be more fun. The Islands of Adventure are also a little more interactive than the main Universal Studios area.
That said, you can get a pass for both parks and easily visit them on the same day thanks to the transportation offered by the Hogwarts Express. You dont have to limit yourself to one park, but the Islands of Adventure are better if you do have to choose.
However, the Islands of Adventure also have several more water-based attractions. Keep that in mind when deciding where to go and how to dress.

Tips For Visiting Diagon Alley At The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter In Orlando
Your Harry Potter Orlando experience actually begins outside of Diagon Alley in the London waterfront area of Universal Studios Florida. Its worth spending a few minutes in this area adjacent to the Harry Potter world to chat with the Knight Bus conductor and search for Kreacher the house-elf in the upstairs window of 12 Grimmauld Place before heading into Diagon Alley.
When youre ready to enter the Wizarding World, you may be wondering where to find the entrance to Diagon Alley. To better keep out muggles, its hidden behind a brick wall just past Leicester Square Station.
Once inside the Harry Potter theme park, youll be staring right at the large Ukranian Ironbelly dragon that sits atop Gringotts Bank. It really does breathe fire . If you want to catch a photo or video of the fire-breathing dragon in action, listen for the dragons low growl and youll know hes warming up for his next performance.
Turn right after you enter to visit Carkitt Market or go straight back toward the bank and youll hit Horizont Alley. You can also see the seedier side of Diagon Alley if you follow the dark pathway past the Leaky Cauldron into Knockturn Alley. Each has shops, dining, and magic wand spots , and Carkitt Market has a stage where you can watch live entertainment from Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees or The Tales of Beedle the Bard throughout the day.

Harry Potter And The Escape From Gringotts
For five straight years, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts towered over everything else at Universal Orlando.
This ride was the unquestioned alpha at the park and, arguably, all of Orlando, at least until Avatar Flight of Passage arrived.
Since then, a different Harry Potter attraction has surpassed Escape from Gringotts, but that speaks more about the greatness of the new ride than any dig at its predecessor.
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts marries two disparate concepts: the dark ride and the roller coaster.
The best way that I could describe it is that Universal took the ride structure of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.
Then, ride designers put everything on a coaster cart with ride tracks.
So, youâre still experiencing a brilliant Potterverse story, only everythingâs happening during a roller coaster ride!
The events take place during the sequence from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows â Part 2, when our heroes break into Gringotts Bank.
However, the rider isnât with Harry and his friends at the start. Instead, guests luckily encounter Hermione, Ron, and Harry, as the trio saves the day.
Perhaps the greatest thrill is that the greatest evil wizardess, Bellatrix Lestrange, is trying to capture you throughout the experience. Oh, and Voldemort joins later.
This ride is a true masterpiece of storytelling and theme park design. Somehow, Universal still created something better, thoughâ¦

Universal Studios Or Islands Of Adventure: Food At The Parks
This was another category that I thought was very difficult. There are places I really enjoy at both parks and I shared our favorite places to eat at Universal Orlando in a previous post.
Universal Studios has a handful of sit down restaurants as well as numerous options at Springfield U.S.A. One of my favorite meals comes from the Taco Truck outside Moes at Springfield U.S.A. They also have Leaky Cauldron which is a great choice for Harry Potter fans.
Islands of Adventure has Mythos as well as many counter service dining options. Mythos has won awards for being one of the best theme park restaurants in the country. We tried Mythos during a visit and liked it, but it is very pricey and not really a great choice if you are riding rides all day.
Islands of Adventure also has Green Eggs and Ham at Seuss Landing. This has been at Seuss Landing for years but recently re-opened serving Who-Hash and other Seuss themed meals. I really hope Green Eggs and Ham stays open because it was a hit for everyone in the family.
Even though Islands of Adventure has Green Eggs and Ham, Universal Studios wins this one because of its options for sit-down and counter service plus its variety of options for everyone.

Hogsmeade Restaurants At The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter In Orlando
Theres only one restaurant in Hogsmeade, but there are two Butterbeer carts and a pub, so you wont go thirsty.
Three Broomsticks
The rustic charm of Three Broomsticks lends itself to hearty fare like beef pasties and rotisserie chicken, or go for the full Harry Potter world experience by ordering The Great Feasta family-style meal with all the fixins.
Hogs Head
Located in the back of Three Broomsticks, Hogs Head serves Butterbeer, Pumpkin Juice, and alcoholic drinks, including the Hogs Head Brew thats only available in Hogsmeade at Universals Islands of Adventure.
Butterbeer Carts
There are two Butterbeer carts in Hogsmeade where you can get frozen or cold Butterbeer, water, and other Wizarding World beverages.
