Sony and Avalanche Software have revealed some of the ways Hogwarts Legacy utilizes the PS5 hardware in a recent post published to the official PlayStation Blog .
Haptic feedback will also come into play when casting spells, with each one feeling unique. Weve specifically isolated these effects to the right side of the controller to let the DualSense become an extension of the wand you hold in the game, the post says. And when you deflect a spell with Protego, youll feel the sizzling of the magic being reflected and absorbed by the Shield Charm.
Beyond spells, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback will also allow players to feel more immersed when performing other activities in the game, like crushing potions ingredients or flying on a Hippogriff or broomstick.
The controllers light also comes into play. When its not flashing due to spellcasting, players will find that their chosen house colors appear on it, with blue and bronze for Ravenclaw, scarlet and gold for Gryffindor, green and silver for Slytherin, and yellow and black for Hufflepuff.
As far as visuals are concerned, on PS5 the game will run at 4K, with players able to choose between Performance and Fidelity modes, with the former prioritizing frame rate while the latter leans into visual fidelity.

What Do We Know About Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay
The team from Warner Bros Games, which will publish Hogwarts Legacy under its Portkey Games label, revealed a 14-minute gameplay video on Thursday 17th March 2022, during one of Sony’s PlayStation State of Play live-stream events.

It looks like there will be plenty of combat opportunities in the game, with the video above showcasing an array of fights where the player can use various spells, environmental aids and magical plants to overcome their enemies with clever combos.
You’ll also be able to explore various hidden areas of Hogwarts itself, as well as venturing out into the grounds and even going as far as Hogsmeade village. Players will stumble into dangerous dungeons as well as finding puzzles that may have been placed by Merlin himself.
Players will be able to upgrade their magic spells and improve their abilities using a series of skill trees, and you will also be able to visit the Room of Requirement to pick up handy items. You’ll even be able to make your own den-like area that’s tailored to your own tastes, which seems like a nice touch.
One thing you shouldn’t expect is Hogwarts Legacy multiplayer, with the developers recently ruling out the idea and stressing that this is a single-player game.

One thing youll notice within just a few minutes of playing Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is that its unashamedly a free-to-play experience where every important action tied to progress through the story will drain your characters energy .
Whenever you run out of energy youre given the option of refilling the meter by spending 10, 55, or a 100 gems ostensibly the games premium currency. Unfortunately for players looking to hang onto their cash, those pink crystals are pretty rare and are required to buy the best clothes and accessories for your avatar.
The simplest way to regain energy is by putting the game down and waiting. You start the game with a 24 maximum Energy cap, and if youve kept up with the game which is currently at Year 5 Chapter 26) you will have a cap of 40 units. A single unit takes a full four minutes to recharge even if you close the app. That means itll take 2 hours and 20 minutes to fully refill your energy bar.
Instead of just twiddling your thumbs, however, there are a few ways of regaining energy while still playing. The first is by hitting a new level, which completely refills your energy bar. Take advantage of this if you ever see the level bar about to tick over by burning all of your energy first. This becomes much harder to do as you advance through the years and your level continues to increase though.

Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Story And Setting
Hogwarts Legacy is an RPG set in an immersive, open-world. Set in the wizarding world of the 1800s, Hogwarts Legacy might sound distant from the familiarity of the books and films but fans of the Harry Potter series have been assured that the game will be “firmly rooted in the Harry Potter universe”. The developer says it’s aiming to “chart new territory by creating fresh ways for fans to immerse themselves in the wizarding world”.
There’s an original main story that runs through Hogwarts Legacy, just in case you were worried that the game would let you loose in the school with no direction.
According to a post on the PlayStation Blog , you will start at Hogwarts in your fifth year, coming to the school after surviving some kind of mysterious incident. Your character apparently has ties to an ancient magic which will put you on a collision course with a goblin rebellion led by Ranrok, aided by his alliance with the Dark wizard Victor Rookwood, who both present formidable threats to the entire wizarding world.
According to the post, Ranrok has seen a glimmer of a magic that wizardkind tried to hide even from themselves and he wants that power in particular. His worldview is skewed by his hatred of wizards, which makes his alliance with Victor Rookwood particularly tenuous. Once Ranrok gets what he wants, no one will be able to stop him and the wizarding world will be doomed.

Hogwarts Legacy Release Date
Hogwarts Legacy was initially set to be released at some point in 2021, but after a recent delay, we won’t be seeing it until 2022. The game will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC. The graphical differences we can expect between these generational gaps is currently unconfirmed, but its probably safe to say Hogwarts Legacy will look better on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
The game is being developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games. Avalanche Software previously developed Cars 3: Driven to Win, so Hogwarts Legacy is a big step up for them as far as scale goes.
We didn’t see much of Hogwarts Legacy during 2021, with it not appearing at E3 and not showing up at Sony’s PlayStation Showcase 2021.
Video game data analyst Millie A. claimed in a that we’d see more of Hogwarts Legacy at The Game Awards this past December. She hinted at the existence of a Wolverine-related property far before Insomniac’s Wolverine received a trailer, so it’s not unlikely that she possesses insider info. Unfortunately, this was not true. It doesn’t necessarily mean she was wrong, as reveals and trailers get pulled last minute all the time.
Warner Bros. general manager Rachel Wakely had an interview with Toy World Magazine where she implied that Hogwarts Legacy would be launching second to Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Since the film is launching in April, it’s unlikely that the game will be launching during early 2022.

In this game, the player creates their own character and takes on the role of a Hogwarts student. The character experiences seven years and takes part in classes as well as extra activities such as the Duelling Club. The game is still under development, as some chapters of Year 7 and Quidditch Season 3, and the entirety of Quidditch Season 4 are still not released.
Several actors voiced characters that they had played in the Harry Potter films before, including Warwick Davis, Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith, Gemma Jones, Zoë Wanamaker, and Sally Mortemore.
Nail Demonstrations And Become A Dueling Master
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is a story-driven adventure where youll spend most of your time chatting, exploring, and uncovering secrets, but there some parts of gameplay that require a bit of action and skill from the player.
The first youll come across is demonstrations. These will crop up during lessons when casting spells, mixing potions, and more, and come in two main flavors. One is a simple game of tracing a specific pattern without going outside the lines. These are incredibly simple and shouldnt cause many players any problems.
Some demonstrations will mix it up a bit with a reflex challenge where you have to hit the screen when one circle matches another. Again, these are fairly easy, but the game does a fairly poor job of telling you what to do. Take your time and youll be fine.
Recent additions include matching and sorting different shapes, and a press and hold game where you have to tap and hold a moving cursor at a certain point for a few seconds to successfully complete the challenge. None of these mini-games are particularly difficult, but its still nice to see a little bit of variety being added to the game.
The other main gameplay feature is dueling, which is essentially just rock-paper-scissors with wands. Aggressive beats Sneaky, Defensive beats Aggressive, Sneaky beats Defensive. Watch for a pattern of sorts to emerge if youre running into trouble when dueling. Once again, its pretty simple stuff.

Energy-hungry players may immediately cling to the idea of banking the valuable resource to immediately complete tasks and quests but the star of the show will always be gems. This bright-colored currency can only be refilled by spending real money on the title and can be used for a variety of things to help players progress. Energy will refill over time and attributes and coins can be ground out. It’s highly recommended that whenever players have an opportunity to receive free gems, they take them.
How Do The New Encounters Work

Each of these new encounters requires players to spend a set number of coins them amount varies from about 30 -75 coins. The object of the encounter is to gain at least one diamond within a given number of turns. At the beginning of the encounter, you will choose a friend from a list of available choices I usually go with whichever one is at a lower friendship level. As you answer questions in the encounter, youll gain or lose points depending on the answer you choose.

What Platforms Can I Get Hogwarts Legacy On
Hogwarts Legacy will be available on next-generation consoles the PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as the PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC release also confirmed.
