iGeekOut

Every year, an event rolls around that is near and dear to most every true Harry Potter fan, and that is his birthday. According to the books, this event took place on July 31st, 1980, and is there any better way to honor this than to have a party? There are all kinds of ways that you can celebrate this, but here are 10 of the best and, in the opinion of iGeekOut, the most fun ways that you and your friends can mark this occasion. Be aware that this list is by no way ranked according to which method of celebrating Harrys birthday is better than an another.

10. Movie Marathon

Arguably one of the easiest ways to celebrate Harrys birthday is to have a private screening of all the movies. Wouldnt it be fun to experience all the highs, and lows, of the adventures that Harry Potter and his friends once again? Granted, this is definitely one of the most time consuming methods available for celebrating Harrys birthday, so it may be advisable to only watch your favorite movies on that day. However, if you want to watch the entire series you can spread the entire series out over several days and have more reason to get together with your friends and family.

9. Themed Party
8. Host a Quidditch Tournament

Every year, Potterheads celebrate Harry Potter Day on May 2 to commemorate the Battle of Hogwarts. Are you partying with an online meetup with your fellow friends and presenting them with magical gifts? Me, I will celebrate the 24th anniversary of Voldemorts defeat by re-reading Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone and with a cake, as it is my birthday as well!

Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.

I read this chapter so many times I could recite it to you at this point. It feels like it was only yesterday that I opened the first pages of the first chapter in the Harry Potter series. Somehow time flew us by instead, and next year is going to be the 25th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. Wicked, right?

From the completion of the book series, to the writing of the controversial sequel theater screenplay The Cursed Child and finally the Fantastic Beasts movie series, J.K.Rowling has kept expanding and adding to the universe in various shapes. Much to the dismay of many fans, I might add.

Harry, Hermione and Ron all grew up in the span of the 7 books, and so did we. And although the universe still enjoys strong popularity, the same cannot be said for its author JK Rowling.

The birth of the reader must be at the cost of the death of the Author.

On this May 2nd, lets pick up our own wands and celebrate magic and love.

The Battle Of Hogwarts:

The Battle of Hogwarts ended with the impressive victory of Order and DA together with Harry. It was so overwhelming and calamitous as there were many casualties. Unfortunately, Fred Weasely, Nymphadora Tonks, Remus Lupin, Colin Creevy, Lavender Brown, and many more were lost in this Battle. On the other hand, Bellatrix Lestrange, Fenrir Greyback, and many Death-eaters were defeated and killed along with Lord Voldemort.

Besides, the Potterheads commemorate this day as International Harry Potter Day. It was fought in 1998 and was published in 2007. All the Potterheads raise their wands every year in remembrance of martyrs till now. They pay their respects and tributes to the martyrs with 7 minutes of silence at 7 pm in all time zones.

Create A House Competition

Another aspect of Harry Potter that students of all ages enjoy is the claiming of houses. Be it Gryffindor or Slytherin, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, Harry Potter fans take pride in the house in which they feel they belong.

Why not bring that into the classroom? Teachers could assign students to houses . Houses could earn points for participation, answering questions directly, good behavior, group cooperation, and so on! The sky is truly the limit with what houses can earn points for.

As in the books, houses can lose points for negative events or behaviors, too! Not only is this activity fun, it can be used over and over again to encourage positive student behavior, interactions, and performance! Teachers can easily employ this house system in virtual classrooms as well!

Why Is May 2nd International Harry Potter Day

According to the timeline in the original Harry Potter books, The Battle of Hogwarts would have taken place on 2nd May 1998 which is the date Voldemort was finally defeated.

International Harry Potter Day is therefore the anniversary of the battle and has become a day to mark the significance of J.K. Rowlings work.

Experience Food And Fun

International Harry Potter Day

Another exciting idea would be for teachers to transform their classrooms into Hogwarts complete with decorations, important items from the books, and themed food and drink! Schools may even approve of the showing of a Harry Potter movie! Either way, students will be immersed into the world of Harry Potter.

Additionally, students love the unusual food and drink items that the characters in the books enjoy, and what better way to celebrate International Harry Potter Day than by bringing some of those items into the classroom?

Butter beer is probably the most notable Harry Potter treat. Teachers can easily make butter beer for their students to try with recipes involving vanilla ice cream, cream soda, and butterscotch sauce. Although this activity is designed more for in-person instruction, teachers could adapt a similar experience for virtual students.

Remember Characters

I feel like I could’ve added a few more categories here for Harry Potter Day, but I think they’d drift more into sub-categories, honestly. Such as with the Home Decor section.

I could simply separate that entire category into sub-categories of kids’ room decors, bathroom decor, kitchen decor, holiday decor, and even party decor, if I wanted. But there’s really no need for me to do that here, because that’s just a sensory overload for what this post itself is all about. It’s giving surface ideas, not in-depth ones.

With that being said, I think I did cover all categories for Harry Potter. Aside from the books.

I feel like anybody coming to this post already has the books, so I didn’t think there was a need for them, that’s allsame goes for the movies.

The rest should give you ideas for Harry Potter gift ideas for yourself or others!

Add to your Harry Potter collection

If you’re a Harry Potter Funk Pop collector or a figurine collector of any kind, then this is the perfect day to start collecting more of what you don’t already have, or to gift these collections to a fellow Potter fan that might not have them.

There are a variety of collector’s products out there, so if you are buying for someone else, think about what they like.

There are bobble heads, pez dispensers, limited edition items, and all that.

These items might spark some ideas.

Play board games with the family

Character Dress Up Day

Spot Maratona International Harry Potter Day

A staple activity for elementary schools across the country is to schedule character dress up days! To tailor this activity for International Harry Potter Day, students may be asked to dress as their favorite character from the books. To make this even more meaningful, students may write about why they chose their particular character by citing evidence from the text.

Although character dress up days are more frequently used for younger grade levels, this activity can be easily adapted for older students by allowing them to participate in a living museum. The teacher should assign students a character to study and embody in order to play the role of that character during the museum. Visitors to the museum will ask the individual characters questions in order to learn more about them. All of these activities can also be used through virtual instruction.

What Is International Harry Potter Day

Every year, on May 2, people all over the world honor Rowlings book series by celebrating International Harry Potter Day. The tradition began in 2012 when British Prime Minister David Cameron officially designated the day.

There is no doubt in anyones mind that Ms. Rowlings work has had a huge and undeniable impact on the literary world as we know it, Cameron said in his 2012 statement. In order to fully commemorate and immortalize her work, we have to decided to officially declare May 2nd as an official international holiday, in honor of the date that protagonist Harry Potter conquered the main antagonist of the series, Lord Voldemort. We hope that children and adults alike will be reminded of Harry Potters strong and courageous character on this day, as well as of the true credit that Ms. Rowling has made to society.
