Cursed Child Will Be Two Parts

Happy Birthday Hermione Granger | Wizarding World

At this point, we all have at least a vague idea of what Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them will entail. Eddie Redmayne will star as Newt Scamander and there will presumably be quite a few CGI monsters. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, on the other hand, remains shrouded in mystery. Pretty much all weve had to go on so far is that its a play and its not a prequel. This week, however, Rowling revealed that Cursed Child will come in two parts, due to the epic nature of the story weve been working on.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

Hermione is horrified by the cruelty that house-elves suffer, and establishes S.P.E.W., the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, as an effort to gain basic rights for them. She is Bulgarian Quidditch prodigy Viktor Krum‘s date at the Yule Ball of the Triwizard Tournament. The proper pronunciation of her name is interjected into the plot when she teaches it to Krum the best he can do is “Herm-own-ninny,” but she has no problem with it. She later gets into a heated argument with Ron after he accuses her of “fraternising with the enemy” about her friendship with Krum. In the book, Hermione’s feelings toward Ron are hinted at when she says that Ron can’t see her “like a girl,” but Krum could. She supports Harry through the Triwizard Tournament, helping him prepare for each task. At the end of the second task, Krum asks her to come to see him over the summer in Bulgaria, but she politely declines. Near the end of the term, she stops fraudulent tabloid reporter and unregistered Animagus, Rita Skeeter, who had published defamatory material about Hermione, Harry, and Hagrid during the Triwizard Tournament, by holding her Animagus form captive in a jar.

Organizing Dumbledores Army To Save The Wizarding World

During her fifth year at Hogwarts, Hermione helped to organize Dumbledores Army by enlisting students, arranging secret meetings, and strongly encouraging Harry to take on a mentoring role.

Even though Harry ended up leading the secret organization, it was Hermiones brainchild from the start. After Professor Dolores Umbridge restricted students from using magic in lessons, Hermione realized it was time to break the rules and form an underground society as she recognized the importance of learning defensive magical skills, especially with the increasingly ominous threat of Lord Voldemorts return. Throughout all of this, the golden trio were fighting the good fight and taking no prisoners while serving up the ultimate squad goals.

Saving Harry And Ron From The Devils Snare

Happy Birthday Hermione

Hermione was arguably the most intelligent student in her year, year after year, much to the annoyance of her other classmates who could never seem to beat her in the race to raise their hands to answer questions.

During their first year at Hogwarts, she used her knowledge from Herbology class to free her friends from the Devils snare, a plant with magical properties that tried to crush Hermione, Harry, and Ron after they dropped through a trapdoor straight into the florists worst nightmare. Under pressure, the young witch recognized the vicious vines and relaxed to escape their vice-like grip. Hermione then summoned the bluebell flames to save Ron, who was the last remaining victim.

Perhaps its time she invested in some shining armor?

Albus Dumbledore, her former headmaster

As with most aspects of the wizarding world, Hermione read about Albus Dumbledore shortly after learning that she was a witch. Hermione on her very first train journey revealed she wanted to be in Gryffindor because it was the house that Dumbledore belonged to. She first met the Hogwarts headmaster during her her first year at the school, in 1991, and quickly came to respect Dumbledore’s immense power and seemingly infinite wisdom. Although Dumbledore was not as close with her as he was with Harry Potter, he showed great insight into her character very early on. She was one of only three students Dumbledore bequeathed a personal item, as he believed her to be, along with Ron Weasley, trustworthy of accompanying Harry on his mission to destroy Voldemort‘s Horcruxes.

He respected her intellect, perspicacity, and level-headedness, admitting to Harry that he had counted on Hermione to keep things in perspective when the trio finally discovered the existence of the Deathly Hallows. Hermione was devastated when Dumbledore was killed, and visited his portrait with Harry and Ron after the Battle of Hogwarts to determine the fate of the Hallows.

Remus Lupin

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Hermione buys a cat named Crookshanks, who takes to chasing Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers. Before the start of term, Professor McGonagall secretly gives Hermione a Time-Turner, a device which enables her to go back in time and handle her heavy class schedule, though this is not revealed until the penultimate chapter. Much tension comes into play between Hermione and her two best friends Harry is furious with her because she told McGonagall that he had received a Firebolt, which was confiscated to be inspected for traces of dark magic. Ron is angry because he feels Crookshanks is responsible for Scabbers’ disappearance, while Hermione fiercely maintains that Crookshanks is innocent.

While filling in for Remus Lupin in one Defence Against the Dark Arts class, Snape labels Hermione “an insufferable know-it-all” and penalises Gryffindor after she speaks out of turn in her attempt to describe a werewolf when no one else does. She correctly deduces Lupin’s secret after completing Snape’s homework assignment from the class. Crookshanks proves vital in exposing Scabbers as Peter Pettigrew, an erstwhile friend of James and Lily Potter, who revealed their whereabouts to Lord Voldemort the night of their murders, and was able to wrongly implicate Sirius Black in the Potters’ deaths. The Time-Turner enables Hermione and Harry to rescue Sirius and the hippogriff Buckbeak.

Harry Potter Facts Only Potterheads Know To Celebrate His Birthday

  • Harry Potter’s birthday is on July 31
  • Haley Joel Osment almost played The Boy Who Lived
  • J.K. Rowling said Michael Jackson wanted to turn Harry Potter into a musical

More than two decades since the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, came out, the magical world and characters created by author J.K. Rowling have maintained a strong following and continue to attract new fans.

In honor of The Boy Who Lived’s birthday, here are 15 facts about the Harry Potter books and films that only Potterheads know, courtesy of Mental Floss, Story Pick, and Screen Rant.

1. The plants in the books all came from a real book

I used to collect names of plants that sounded witchy, Rowling shared in an interview. And then I found this, Culpeper’s Complete Herbal, and it was the answer to my every prayer: flax weed, toadflax, fleawort, Gout-wort, grommel, knotgrass, Mugwort.

2. Stephen King thought Dolores Umbridge was a great villain

In Stephen King’s review of Order of the Phoenix, he said, The gently smiling Dolores Umbridge, with her girlish voice, toadlike face, and clutching, stubby fingers, is the greatest make-believe villain to come along since Hannibal Lecter.

3. Haley Joel Osment was supposed to play Harry Potter

Steven Spielberg, who was supposed to be the director of the film adaptations, wanted to cast Haley Joel Osment as Harry Potter. This, however, did not happen after Christopher Columbus replaced Spielberg.

6. Hermione made her own spells

Brewing The Highly Advanced Polyjuice Potion

Hermione Granger || Unstoppable || Emma Watson’s Birthday

In their second year, Hermione, Harry, and Ron swapped out their usual Butterbeer beverages for three steaming goblets of Polyjuice Potion as they worked together to trick Draco Malfoy into revealing whether or not he was the heir of Slytherin.

We have to give major props to Hermione for this one because the super-advanced Polyjuice Potion is a notoriously difficult concoction that takes a whole month to brew, which is the reason that its better left to only the most highly skilled witches and wizards. However, Hermione successfully produced the mixture in time for Harry and Ron to temporarily transform into Dracos dim-witted sidekicks, Crabbe and Goyle. Sadly, a mix-up with cat hair caused Hermione to develop a pair of furry ears and a fluffy tail, which prevented her from sneaking into the Slytherin dungeons with the portly pair.

Still, we would say it was worth the toil and trouble!

Using The Time Turner To Save Sirius Black And Buckbeak

In Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione was granted permission to become a Time Lord when Professor McGonagall handed her a very special gift that allowed her to attend more classes to maintain a flawless academic record- a Time-Turner.

During the same year, Hermione used the Time-Turner to travel to the past and save a few lives. By turning the small hourglass on the device three times, she was immediately transported back in time by three hours. In this timeframe, she and Harry were able to save Sirius Black from the Dementors Kiss and rescue Buckbeak from his scheduled execution.

Watson Felt Just As Awkward Filming Kissing Scenes In Later Films

Hermione Granger Digital Birthday by BirthdayPartyStore on ...

While Watson, Grint, and Radcliffe definitely grew closer over the years as the movie franchise went on, it seems like the actress’s attitude towards filming more intimate scenes with her co-stars never changed. In “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” one of the Horcruxes shows Ron a vision of one of his biggest fears, which just so happens to be Hermione and Harry kissing. The vision is strange and intense, and Watson and Radcliffe had to make it look really passionate.

Speaking with The Seattle Times, Watson said that the experience filming the kiss with Radcliffe was “bloody awkward … because Dan and I are like brother and sister” but unlike her younger self, she put her all into the scene, following director David Yates’s directions with the hope that it might help them finish filming more quickly. As the scene is supposed to be a vision seen by Ron, Grint was originally on set to watch them kiss and give accurate reactions. But apparently, Grint couldn’t control his emotions at seeing his two best friends making out, and Grint said that “Emma sent me out because I kept laughing. It just looked really strange.”

Celebrate Hermione’s Birthday With Emma Watson’s Most Powerful Quotes About Feminism

Accio, birthday wishes. On Sept. 19, 1979, Hermione Jean Granger was born. Audiences, of course, didn’t meet Hermione until J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, when the young Muggle-born witch rode the Hogwarts Express with Harry Potter. But in the years since, Hermione has become a symbol of strength and wisdom, both thanks to Rowling’s writing and Emma Watson’s onscreen portrayal of the character in the Harry Potter films. Ahead, celebrate Hermione’s birthday with some of Watson’s best quotes about feminism.

“I stand with all the women who have been sexually harassed, and am awestruck by their bravery. This mistreatment of women has to stop,” Watson tweeted.

“Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong.” — Emma Watson to the U.N. in 2014

“We are not supposed to talk about money because people will think you’re ‘difficult’ or a ‘diva.’ But there’s a willingness now to be like, ‘Fine. Call me a ‘diva,’ call me a ‘feminazi,’ call me ‘difficult,’ call me a ‘First World feminist,’ call me whatever you want, it’s not going to stop me from trying to do the right thing and make sure that the right thing happens.’ Because it doesn’t just affect me, it affects all the other women who are in this with me, and it affects all the other men who are in this with me, too.” — Emma Watson to Esquire in 2016

“If you stand for equality, then you’re a feminist. Sorry to tell you.” — Emma Watson in 2015

Sacrificing Her Parents Memories For The Greater Good

Another scene that hit us right in the feels was the moment that Hermione had to make the ultimate sacrifice and put her own needs second to ensure the safety of others.

Motivated by love, Hermione bravely performed a memory charm on her Muggle parents in order to protect them throughout the Wizarding War. She used the spell to erase herself from family photographs, alter both of her parents memories, and give them all-new identities. Not knowing whether she would ever really see them again, this act of pure selflessness further highlights Hermiones strength of character and logical approach to extreme challenges.

Generally regarded as one of the most talented witches of her time, Hermione has never been the type to let her bushy brown hair down and parade around in a party hat on the regular, especially in the years that she attended the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Back then, the straight-A student was too busy dropping knowledge bombs and demonstrating the perfect swish and flick for the Wing-GAR-dium Levi-O-sa charm, all while saving her best friends Harry and Ron from a number of potentially dangerous situations.

It was through these acts, though, that Hermiones unwavering loyalty, sheer determination, and unbreakable spirit shone brighter than a Lumos spell. And so in celebration of the beloved characters big day, we have rounded up her greatest moments from the Harry Potter series. Now dust off your wizarding robes and raise your wands to join us in wishing J.K. Rowlings heroine a very Happee Birthdae.

Identifying The Monster Lurking In The Hogwarts Halls

Hermione sings you a Happy Birthday!

The Chamber of Secrets was opened twice, once during Hermiones second year at school and exactly fifty years prior, both times releasing the Salazar Slytherins Basilisk into Hogwarts.

Before Hermione fell out of action from petrification, she identified the serpent that was traveling around the schools pipes system and subsequently saved herself and another student from death. Using a mirror to navigate her way out of the library, she managed to avoid direct eye contact with the monster, which left her in a less permanent paralyzed state. Even in her unconscious condition, Hermione managed to leave Harry and Ron the information required to solve the mystery, by way of a piece of paper that she held in her hand.

And the rest was hiss-tory
