Fiendfyre Creates Uncontrollable Living Flames
One of the most powerful dark spells in existence, Fiendfyre creates a storm of fire in the shape of rampaging animals. The spell is notoriously difficult to control, but its power can even destroy horcruxes. A Fiendfyre foolishly cast by Crabbe destroys the Room of Requirement and with it, Ravenclaw’s diadem and the horcrux within. In the movies, it is Goyle who casts the spell. The movie adaptations also display Lord Voldemort using Fiendfyre during his duel with Albus Dumbledore at the Ministry, though this never happens in the books.
Sunshine Daisies Butter Mellow Turn This Stupid Fat Rat Yellow
One of the first instances where a magic incantation is used in the series is seen in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. While demonstrating his knowledge of magic, Ron Weasley uses this longwinded spell on his pet rat, Scabbers, but nothing happens.
The spell is a nonsensical one, likely created to poke fun at their younger sibling. If the spell was real though, it would still be one of the most impractical spells present in the series due to the specific requirements needed for it to be cast successfully.
The Very Useful Harry Potter Spells
Even the most indoors-y of wizards will need to be bandaged up every now and then.
Turning the tip of your wand into a light sounds sort of redundant in the age of smartphones, doesn’t it? But then again, would wizards really need smartphones? Probably not. Which means Lumos is still a handy one to know.
If you’re going to turn your wand into a light, you need the counter spell to extinguish it, too.
A spell that waterproofs stuff! No, it’s not the most exciting thing in the world, but think of the practical uses! In the books this one’s mainly used for Quidditch, but in rainy old England it would be pretty essential day-to-day, particularly for people who wear glasses like Harry.
Ah, the growing charm. Perfect if you’re tending to a burgeoning vegetable patch, but definitely one to avoid using on animals.
19. Salvio Hexia
Hermione uses this spell which protects an area against hexes in order to safeguard the trio’s woodland camps in The Deathly Hallows. It’s probably the magical equivalent of a good guard dog, which is handy if you’re worried about getting ambushed.
A spell for erasing memories does sound a little on the evil side, but it’s also a crucial tool for wizards who need to stay hidden from pesky muggles.
17. Repello Muggletum
Speaking of pesky muggles, this one repels them! Absolutely crucial if you’re trying to hide out in a magical forest camp or host a giant Quidditch tournament .

Magic In Harry Potter
In J. K. Rowling‘s Harry Potter series, magic is depicted as a supernatural force that can be used to override the usual laws of nature. Many fictional magical creatures exist in the series, while ordinary creatures also sometimes exhibit magical properties. Magical objects are also described. The small number of humans who are able to perform magic refer to the rest of the population, oblivious to the existence of magic, as “Muggles” in the United Kingdom and “No-Maj” in the United States.
In humans, magic or the lack thereof is an inborn attribute. It is usually inherited, carried on “dominant resilient genes”. Magic is the norm for the children of magical couples and less common in those of Muggles. Exceptions exist: those unable to do magic who are born to magical parents are known as Squibs, whereas a witch or wizard born to Muggle parents is known as a Muggle-born, or by the derogatory term “Mudblood”. While Muggle-borns are quite common, Squibs are extremely rare.
Rowling based many magical elements of the Harry Potter universe on real-world mythology and magic. She has described this as “a way of giving texture to the world”. The books present the idea that the Muggle interpretation of these stories is a distorted version of what goes on in the wizarding world.
These Harry Potter Spells Actually Work On Android Or Ios Phones
Looking back at the adventures of Harry Potter , Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger , fans still reminisce about reading the J.K. Rowling books and watching the films for the first time.
Every Potterhead as a child hoped to join a school like the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and wished the magical world to be true. However, every time such a thought cropped up, it was almost immediately thwarted by muggles around.
But that did not stop fans from memorising Harry Potter spells with correct pronunciation or pretending to cast them. This caught the attention of tech companies like Apple Inc. and Google, and they made this dream come true, at least to some degree. Smartphone users can perform some Harry Potter spells with the help of artificial-intelligence personal assistants like Siri and Google Assistant.
In 2016, announced that some Harry Potter spells will work on its phones. The tech giant, along with Warner Bros, was celebrating the release of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them at the time, with four new locations on Google Street View that will transport users to the films world.
The Harry Potter spell Lumos can be used to activate Android and iPhone flashlights
Recently, a tweet re-triggered the craze amid Harry Potter fans of using the same spells on their phones. The post dated 5 January 2022 mentioned that Lumos can turn their phones flashlight on. Potterheads soon shared their excitement on social media of being able to do so.

The Cruciatus Curse Causes Unbearable Pain To Its Target
The second unforgivable, the Cruciatus, is a known favorite of the Death Eaters. Bellatrix Lestrange is shown using it on Hermione Granger, and Voldemort employs it numerous times in his battles against Harry. It causes unbearable pain to the target. The agony is so horrifying that, if the curse keeps being cast for more than a few minutes, its victims become catatonic. This was the fate of Frank and Alice Longbottom, who are targeted by the Lestranges and Barty Crouch Jr. after Voldemort’s first fall.
Harry uses the curse on more than one occasion. The first two attempts on Bellatrix Lestrange and Severus Snape are failures. He is finally successful on the third try, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. He casts the spell on Dark Wizard Amycus Carrow, when the Death Eater demands entry to Ravenclaw Tower and spits in Professor McGonagall‘s face.

Your Iphone Has Ten Harry Potter Spells That Really Work With Siri
- Harry Pettit, Deputy Technology and Science Editor
- 7:43 ET, Jan 21 2022
ORDINARY muggles can cast spells from the Harry Potter universe provided they have an iPhone.
Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, responds to close to a dozen magical commands taken straight from JK Rowling’s megahit books.
With just a couple of words, you can cast all sorts of jinxes from your mobile just like the “boy who lived” and his supernatural pals.
For instance, fans will remember the spell “Lumos” which in the Harry Potter universe lights the end of a witch or wizards wand.
It allows characters to see in the dark and was used by Potter himself in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”.
You can cast the spell yourself back in the world of muggles by activating Siri on an iPhone and saying “Lumos” to turn your gadget’s flashlight on.
Lumos is not the only spell that works on iPhone.
Activating Siri and saying “Nox”, the wand-extinguishing charm, will turn the torch off.
The Really Useless/worse Than Useless Harry Potter Spells
81. Avada Kedavra
It’s used to kill people, it’s an Unforgivable Curse, and it was Voldemort’s favourite, so it’s going last. There’s probably a big philosophical debate we could get into about violent curses like this would this one have been okay to use on an evil dark wizard, for instance? but we’re going to take the tack that murder is bad and leave it there.
Yep, this is another Unforgivable Curse that Harry actually attempts to cast himself a couple of times, but nobody’s perfect, right? It’s also yet another spell that could land you in a cell with some Dementors .
We know what you’re thinking: Why is a spell that Harry Potter busts out in order to retrieve a horcrux so low down on the list of usefulness? Wouldn’t the whole wizarding world be a different place if Harry hadn’t used the Imperius Curse to sneak into Gringotts? Well, maybe. But if we’re looking at this thing objectively, an Unforgivable Curse which puts the victim under the caster’s complete control is both a) obviously super evil, and b) a good way to get yourself locked up in Azkaban for life.
Baddies use this one to conjure the Dark Mark in the sky. You don’t want to be a baddie, do you?
77. Brackium Emendo
74. Slugulus Eructo
This one covers an enemy in boils, which is very icky and very mean.
71. Locomotor Wibbly
