Hbo Fixes Harry Potter Reunion Special After Fans Spot Series Of Mistakes
Well spotted Harry Potter fans! the specials producers responded in a statement. You brought an editing mistake of a mislabeled photograph to our attention. New version is up now.
A second error was spotted by Harry Potter star Oliver Phelps, who played George, one of the Weasley twins.
The original version of the special had misidentified the actor as his identical twin brother, James Phelps who played the other Weasley sibling, Fred and vice versa.
I guess after all those pranks over the years somebody decided to get their revenge, Oliver Phelps quipped on Instagram. It was fantastic to be part of the HP reunion. Hope you all enjoyed it.
Tom Felton, who portrayed Draco Malfoy in the films, jokingly wrote in the comment section: It was my doing. He added a snake and lion emoji to symbolise the rivalry between Slytherin and Gryffindor, the Hogwarts houses of the Malfoy and Weasley clans.
This is legit hilarious, added Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom. Dude. Wtf? Haha.
The new version, now available on HBO Max, includes the correct labels for the Phelps twins.

Opinionnbc’s Peacock Launches With A Clear Winner But It’s Not The One You Think
What happens in between? Potter will be continue to be available on Syfy and USA, via cable subscriptions. But it wont be found on any streaming services, part of an ever-growing mass of films currently in limbo, some relatively obscure, some famous. TV critic Mike Ryan recently wrote of his own failed hunt for Cocoon, once a box-office smash, but now lost somewhere in the red tape of rights ownership with no complete explanation for why it cannot be found.
At least the Harry Potter moves are being publicly covered, via the monthly missives from Warner and NBCUniversal detailing whats going and coming from their services. We can thank Netflix for these updates, a legacy of its Silicon Valley approach to content management. Netflix didnt seem to think such information was necessary once users highlighted a few favorites, the algorithm would do all the work or so the thinking went. That gave rise to an entirecottageindustry of Netflix-centric sites that exist solely to tell you what to watch and where to find it.
This led to Netflix eventually releasing a monthly list of whats coming and whats going, which other companies now dutifully replicate. But the technocrat anti-customer-service mindset remains, leaving it up to the ever-more frustrated consumer to work out whats available when and who owns what and where it all is at any given time, if it is even available at all.
Weve Been Hearing A Lot About A Potential Harry Potter Spin
Weve heard a lot lately about a rumored Harry Potter TV show coming to HBO Max. Executives have denied the reports, but with platforms of all kinds rushing to air as many big-time franchise series as they can, its not hard to imagine Harry Potter coming to TV in some form.
If you ask me, it sounds like HBO Max and Warner Bros. are testing the waters regarding a possible Harry Potter series before officially embarking on such an expensive and daring project. Thats prudent, especially given how much controversy has been swirling around author J.K. Rowling lately. Many fans have been applying Roland Barthes philosophical concept of the Death of the Author to Harry Potter in order to separate Rowling from the story she wrote, both because of her transphobic views and because her latest Potter-related projects have been lackluster. Potterheads are generally in agreement that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child a play set years after the end of the original Harry Potter books was an AU fanfiction that shouldnt have seen the light of day, and that the Fantastic Beasts movies have been iffy at best, give or take charming protagonist Newt Scamander.
Now fans are split: do we want another series that could further damage the Potterverse? And even if HBO Max were able to keep J.K. Rowling out of it to avoid a PR nightmare, should we support it? Or should we embrace a new series so long as its good?

Harry Potter: Return To Hogwarts Cast
In addition to Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson as the iconic trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, you can expect to see a seriously stacked lineup at the upcoming special â starting with Chris Columbus, director of the first two films. The actors returning to Hogwarts include Helena Bonham Carter , Robbie Coltrane , Ralph Fiennes , Jason Isaacs , Gary Oldman , Imelda Staunton , Tom Felton , James Phelps , Oliver Phelps , Mark Williams , Bonnie Wright , Alfred Enoch , Matthew Lewis , Evanna Lynch , and Ian Hart . But be prepared for a surprise or two, because HBO Max mentioned âothersâ would join the reunion as well.
This is not the first timeHarry Potter actors have reunited â last year, for example, Felton hosted Radcliffe, Grint, and many more co-stars for a virtual livestream, and the annual Celebration of Harry Potter event at Universal Orlando served as a sort of standing reunion for several years. Plus, as Radcliffe revealed to Today in 2020, heâs definitely still in touch with his friends from Hogwarts. However, the Day 1 trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione have not reunited in public since they bid farewell to the franchise in 2011 â making the upcoming special feel pretty, well, special.
On Dec. 15, HBO Max released the first image of the cast back together again, and itâll give you flashbacks to the first time you saw the crew come together at Hogwarts.

Takeaways From Hbo Maxs Harry Potter Reunion: Tears Nostalgia And A Curious Lack Of Jk Rowling
Note: This article discusses conversations and other details from Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.
Unless youre in possession of one of those trusty time turner necklaces that Hermione Granger found so useful, time marches on just as relentlessly for the wizarding community as for us muggles. And, so, November marked two decades since the first Harry Potter movie was released.

The special finds much of the original cast including the usual suspects like Daniel Radcliffe , Emma Watson , Rupert Grint and Tom Felton along with heavy hitters such as Gary Oldman , Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter reminiscing with each other while visiting sets from the eight films.
Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell, and David Yates, all the directors who worked on the series, show up as well.

With ‘harry Potter’ Reunion Hbo Finds Itself Between Jk Rowling And A Hard Place
When HBO announced its upcoming reunion special “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts,” the star-studded lineup did not include You-Know-Who.
In the weeks leading up to the highly anticipated program, streaming New Year’s Day on HBO Max, not a single teaser, trailer or poster has featured “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling, who has come under fire in recent years for repeatedly expressing anti-transgender views.
Despite her absence from HBO’s marketing campaign, however, Rowling does appear in the special, which samples footage from a 2019 interview with her. The archival clips of Rowling are fleeting, accounting for less than 30 seconds of the nearly two-hour-long show.
An HBO spokesperson told The Times that Rowling was invited to do a new interview but that producers felt the previously captured footage was adequate. HBO did not respond to requests for clarification as to whether Rowling declined the interview or filmed a new interview that producers then decided to leave out of the special. The special’s executive producer, Casey Patterson, was not available for comment.
Rowling is also name-checked throughout by “Harry Potter” filmmakers and cast members, several of whom have spoken out against Rowling’s transphobic remarks in the past.
Spotlighted most heavily in the production, of course, are Daniel Radcliffe , Rupert Grint and Emma Watson , who have all made statements supporting the trans community in rebuke of Rowling’s comments.

How Licensing Deals Work With Streaming Services
Basically, when a streaming service gets the rights to a film series like Harry Potter, it can happen one of two ways: either those rights are pre-negotiated when the film is in theaters, or those rights can be purchased after the fact when someone elses agreement expires. Harry Potter fans would be quite familiar with that second path, as the films used to run on Freeform for some time, after which they made a quick pitstop on HBO Gos digital library and eventually landed at the NBCUniversal lot. However, theres another interesting phenomenon weve seen happen as of late.
Either a company can buy out those particular streaming rights to its own IP, like Disney+ did with Star Wars, or special temporary deals can be hatched, such as the one that brought Harry Potter onto HBO Max for opening day. In the latter case, which is what were starting to see more of in recent times, the streaming rights were borrowed from NBCUniversal, which as of this moment has the broadcast and cable rights to the Harry Potter movies until 2025. With that agreement expiring soon, it’s back to NBCUniversal the Potter movies go, unless another agreement is drafted or Warner Bros buys back the rights to the films, whichever comes first.
